I was driving at 40 mph on the highway in rain, abs kicked in because the car started sliding, brake pedal vibrated and after it stopped the brake pedal feels loose. I have to push the pedal almost all the way to the floor for brakes to engage. I've tried pumping my brakes but it's been a week since it occurred and I've experienced no change. I took it to a Ford dealership and was told the master cylinder needs to be replaced but they seemed so clueless I feel like it was just their best guess. I've researched the problem and I've found out that hundreds of people are wasting money on their cars trying to fix the same issue I'm having. I've recently received the airbag recall notification on my car and now a problem with my brakes has occurred. I don't feel safe in my car anymore and I hope Ford will take notice to the hundreds of complaints about the brake system.
Takata inflators: I am having a very hard time breaking when I need to break. Over the past winter, I've slid through several red lights and had to blow on my horn to alert on coming traffic to stop. I've been told by the shops that I should not even be driving my car. This is very dangerous and overwhelming. Ive came out of a lot of money on breaks, pads, master cylinder repairs, etc. And would just like to be able to drive normally. I have to press all the way down to stop my car at all times. My breaks never feel normal. This has been going on for a little over a year now.
During summer 2016, slammed on brakes and swerved left thus activating the abs at highway speeds to avoid an accident with another vehicle that was changing lanes without looking, at which time, my brake pedal went to the floor and brakes lost stopping power. Car continued to have diminished braking with pedal traveling to floor and taking a lot of extra distance to stop. The next day it appeared to somewhat correct itself but pedal still had extended travel and spongy pedal. Took to mechanic who could not diagnose but thought it might be the abs or master cylinder. Continued to drive with spongy pedal. Four months later, abs activated after sliding on icy road, pedal again went to floor with little stopping power. The car would not stop within normal distance even on clear surface. Carefully drove it home and scheduled dealer appointment. Took car to two different Ford dealers because first estimate was so expensive, but both diagnosed problem as abs hydraulic control unit. Replaced hcu and brakes are back to normal feel. Repair paperwork available upon request.
Have lost breaking when making turn and applying brakes on rough roads (in winter) the brake pedal went to the floor in order to stop and after quite some time the brakes would return to "normal" and then tis problem would reoccur, to date this has happened several times over a two and a half period, when taken into mechanic he could find no problem, he has suggested to replace the master cylinder, how ever I have never had a master cylinder fail and then fix itself and then fail over again and again, I believe it is the abs control valve and I feel that this is not a normal wear issue, and that Ford should do a total recall to repair this "safety" issue.
I have a pending case with Ford . The number is cas-7605243-r8k8v5. Brake problem is intermittent. On several occasions the brakes have gone spongy and require a lot of pressure to stop the vehicle. The brake pedal has to be pressed all the way to the floor and even then the car "slips" several feet before it stops. On two separate occasions I've almost hit a pedestrian who has stepped out into the street at a cross walk. I've taken the car to a dealership and they have replaced the master cylinder and booster. Second time was told the brakes were "normal" even though the service manager was able to replicate the issue. Ford fixed this issue for hybrids and I've asked multiple time for them to look into this for the conventional Fusions. . Read more...
2009 Ford Fusion brake problems. The brake pedal intermittenly goes down the floor unexepectly. I had to stand on the brake pedal to stop the car. This issue has been reported to murphy Ford, chester PA on 4 occasions. This car has been towed twice to murphy Ford , concerning this issue. Murphy Ford could not duplicate this problem. After the 4th visit, and murphy Ford could not duplicate the problem, I requested that the master cylinder be replace. This car is unsafe and Ford should correct this problem. I am authorizing the nhtsb to review my vehicle service record from murphy Ford concerning this issue.
While applying break, pedal went to floor & car did not stop causing car to go through intersection. Inspected by Ford engineers & master cylinder replacement performed. Now >2 yrs later same issue has occurred, it is believed to be related to a known Ford problem r/t the hydrolic control unit that has been experienced by many others with this same vehicle as seen online.
2009 Ford Fusion sel v6 I am having issues with the abs system. The brakes are soft and really only activate when pushed almost to the floor. The issue started at about 75000 miles. I have replaced the brakes, bleed and replaced brake fluid, no leaks, checked calipers and master cylinder. The problem is the abs hydraulic control system. When replacement of the fluid and brakes the problem resolved until I made a sharp turn to the right and had wheel slip. Abs activated and from that point on it lost most braking ability. After much research I have found this is a common problem among many small Ford manufactured vehicles. This is a very dangerous problem as it has caused countless near misses in my car. Ford knows of the issue and that it disables the abs system but will not fix the problem. It does however offer to replace the part for over $1000.
I have experienced the same braking issue (brake pedal going to the floor) that is being investigated a couple of times when I had to brake suddenly on uneven surfaces (once was a coble stone entrance) the brake pedal went down to the floor when I slammed on the brake pedal (very similar to when there is air in the brake lines or a bad master cylinder) and both times I was barely able to stop in time (lucky for me that both instances were at low speed less than 10 mph). Took the car to have the brakes checked and they replaced they replaced the master cylinder which did not correct the issue. Both times the brakes eventually came back to working normally after a while.
