1 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

On 3 seperate occasions I have experienced sudden rapid acceleration with my auto. First while slowly accelerating from a parking spot in a crowded department store parking lot. Second while slowly moving forward in a fast food drive thru line. Barely missing the vehicle in front of me. And third while slowing down approaching a stop sign again moving slow exiting a parking lot. All three times I've had to almost stand on the brake to stop and shift to neutral and kill the engine. The vehicle is a 2010 Ford Fusion with apprx 130,000 miles.

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While reversing into a parking space, the engine suddenly revved very high before the vehicle suddenly accelerated. After turning the vehicle off and restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally; however, the failure recurred approximately four hours later. While depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward and caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The driver shifted into park to stop the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

3 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

I have a 4-year new Ford Fusion 2010, manual shift transmission. On 12/17/14, while I was driving at approx. 40 mph on a busy road putting my car on gear 4, all of a sudden, the wrench light lit up, and the car jumped violently as if it was at gear 1 or something. Startled, I gently pushed the gas pedal a bit more, that didn't help; tried again, still violently jump. I hit the clutch, pressed the break pedal just enough to steer my car off the road to a parking lot. After turned off the engine, checked the car, then started the engine again, the wrench wasn't lit, and I drove away. -- this was the first time the trouble occurred. Before the problem re-occurred on 12/20/14, I noticed several sudden accelerations, and sudden stalls while I was driving. The 2nd time the wrench light lit up, same problem: car jump, felt like on gear 1 while actually on gear 3 for a while, have to stop in the middle of the road and re-ignite the engine to get the car moving again. Local Ford dealer did diagnosis and concluded the throttle control body was bad, to fix the problem they must replace the throttle control body and charge me $450. They said there is no warranty on the throttle control body, and parts do go bad sometimes. Really, in 4 years? for a well maintained, garaged car at 34k mileage? the problem smells like a defect, not a standard wear and tear, why should I pay for replacing a defect part? how do I know whether the new part is not a defect again? I'm scared of driving on high way.

4 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

5 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

The problem I am about to describe has happened twice within 5 days. Traveling down the interstate sudden loss of power with no response from the throttle. Yellow wrench light came on rpm's went to 1000 each time. After pulling over and shutting the car off and then restarting the engine bounced and coughed and then ran normal with no yellow wrench. I have called Ford and will have the problem taken care of tomorrow. How come they all know it's a throttle body problem but Ford is not addressing the safety issue with customers. It is all over the internet an obvious known problem. Toyota got killed for sudden acceleration but Ford does nothing for sudden loss of power.

6 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Starting in June 2013 my vehicle began stalling as I was driving. The first time I was driving on i95 at 70 mph when the engine stalled and deaccelerated rapidly. I had to get to the side of the road as as I could and turn the car off, turn it back on. By the time I got it fixed on September 23, 2013 it was happening up to 10 - 20 times per day! I took the car to the dealer but because the basic warranty expired, the repairs were my responsibility. I went on line and saw that there are a lot of Ford owners having the same problem. I now have paid and my vehicle is fixed but this is a life and death situation and needs to be taken seriously. Someone is going to die - I have almost been rear ended so many times due to this problem as well as it stalling during a left hand turn where I had to turn it off in the middle of an intersection and turn it back on.

I was driving a Ford Fusion that I had rented from hertz in minot, north dakota. I was pulling out of the parking space and luckily had my foot on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated. I had to push down very hard on the brake pedal to keep the car under control. I immediately put the car in "park" and the acceleration slowed down. I drove the car that day but reported the incident to hertz and urged them to get the car checked. The Ford Fusion had less than 3000 miles on the odometer so I assume that it was a 2010 model.
