1 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Takata recall I was driving and the car began to slow down rapidly. I was unable to control where I was going and unable to accelerate or decelerate. I have no control over the vehicle when this happens. It is not an all the time problem, but does happen very often. The check engine light comes on when it happens and the car accelerates briefly before instantly shutting off. The wrench symbol also comes on before this all takes place. I could be using cruise control or just normal driving and it happens in both situations. The vehicle tends to do it no matter where you are such as a high way or on a regular city street. I have had the vehicle checked out numerous (six) times to see why it does this. The mechanic hooks it up to the computer every time and states there is nothing wrong but then resets the symbol lights so they go out. The car will be fine for a week or so and then do it again! it is scary when it happens and I try not to drive the car due to this issue. How can you fix something the mechanics state is not broken? something isnt right with the vehicle and something needs to be investigated to see why it does this! it can not only be my car!.

2 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2015

I was driving for about an hour down the freeway in cruise control. The car jerked slightly and went limp, decelerating while maintaining a rough idle around 1000 rpm's. The gas pedal was non-responsive while idling and I was able to coast off to the side of the road where there was no throttle response. The wrench light was on the dash. I turned the car off and tried to start it again, it started fine and I was able to drive it the rest of the way home without further incident. I have been afraid to drive anymore on the freeway since or any serious length knowing there is a serious issue with the vehicle. This is a terrible feeling knowing I have a fairly new car that I cannot trust to drive safely in. I have read others stories about this problem and seriously hope the vehicle's issues do not cause me to be involved in any accident on the freeway at high speeds. There is obviously an issue with a serious flaw and needs to be addressed.

3 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph using the cruise control, the vehicle stalled as the wrench warning light and the brake light illuminated. The vehicle was merged to the side of the road where it was restarted. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

4 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

I was driving on the interstate at approx. 55 mph, with cruise control activated. The vehicle suddenly deactivated t he cruise control and started slowing down. Wrench light came on, and it stopped responding to pressing of the accelerator. I steered the vehicle off the interstate and on to an exit ramp, with brakes and steering unaffected. When I put it in park, the engine was sputtering and the car shaking. After shutting off the engine and restarting, the vehicle ran normally without warning lights. Repair shop employees said it was probably the throttle body, but because the car computer had not recorded the codes, they weren't sure.

5 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

I was driving to work in rush hour traffic with cruise control on doing about 60mph and all of a sudden the car lost power. . . . . . . Engine began to run rough and would not accelerate above an idle (rough idle). There was no response to the throttle; the car would not go faster and could not maintain speed. It only decelerated. I immediately pulled out of traffic to the shoulder and limped to the nearest side street. I turned the car off, checked under the hood, and when I restarted, it ran perfectly fine. A check of the web and contact with the Ford dealer indicated the throttle body was bad. The dealer indicated this was a common problem, that the part has been upgraded twice but my vehicle was not part of a service bulletin/recall. A new throttle body and about $500 later the car is fine its clear may drivers/customers are experiencing this same issue this was dangerous. When the issue happened I was being followed closely by a large truck. I had no warning and the only available option was to immediately pull out of lane and onto the shoulder. . Fortunately I was in the extreme right lane and could pull out of traffic without incident - it would have been a serious incident had I been in the center of left lane, or where there was no available shoulder.

6 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2013

On the highway traveling at 65 mpg with cruise control on, the car jerked. The yellow wrench came on. I had no acceleration and car was bucking. I rolled to the break down lane put it in park and it continued to buck. Turned key off. Turned back on. It was like hitting the reset button. Drove another 15 miles and it happened again. It did it a third time. Still 45 miles away I reduce speed to 55 trying not to touch the accelerator and was able to get it home. Lucky for our family we were not on a busy highway or we would have been caught dead in the middle. There was no acceleration. All we could do is cruise to a stop. Very dangerous and scary situation. It was diagnosed as the throttle body by Ford.

7 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2013

While driving on an interstate hwy in cruise control, the engine began to misfire and lost most of the power. I shifted into nuetral, still missing and little power. The wrench light came on and per the owners manual is the throttle control/transmission issue I shut the engine down and after a few minutes, restarted the engine. Everything then ran smoothly for the rest of the 20 mile trip will take car to Ford dealer.

8 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

Cruise control on 65mph@2000rpm with no input from driver, rpm suddenly jumps to 3500 no speed change, loss of power or jerking of car. Turn off cruise control, rpm drops to 2000 smoothly, all seems fine. Turn on cruise control again, rpm jumps immediately to 2700, again smoothly. Turn off cruise control, rpm drops again to 2000. Drive home w/o cruise control no problem. On trip to dealer for diagnosis the wrench icon appears on dash when the accelerator becomes suddenly completely unresponsive. Motor runs smoothly but doesn't react to accelerator. Pull over, turn off motor, wait 1-2 min. Wrench icon is gone, all seems okay, drove on to dealer.

9 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2013

I was driving on 1-95 in virginia in the left lane early in the morning with my cruise control set. All of a sudden my cruise control shut off and my car started to slow down very fast. I was lucky that no one was behind me in the left lane or else I could have been in an accident. After sitting on the side of the highway for a few minutes I restarted my car and was able to drive on the road again. About 30 minutes later my car did the same thing where the gas pedal wouldn't work and the wrench light came on. The part of the highway did not have very many exits so I had to start my car up again in order to make it to an exit with a Ford dealership. Once at the Ford dealership I left my car to be looked at the next day. The Ford dealership called me to tell me it was the throttle body and it was going to be $600. I went in to buy the part to try and replace it myself and told the car dealership that I was very upset because my car wasn't even 3 years old yet and that I was still paying on my loan. The supervisor said they had seen this issue on other Fusions and was going to only charge me $300 for the part and they would handle paying for the labor costs. This is a serious issue that is very dangerous especially when it happens on the highway.

10 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

The vehicle stalled/lost power, while making a turn at 15-20 mph. I took it to dealership to have it checked. I was told that they couldn't find a problem. It happened a second time while trying to merge into a highway at about 40 mph. I called for a tow truck. While waiting I tried to start it after 15/20 minutes. It started, but waited for tow truck since I was afraid to get on the road. It was looked at again at the dealership repairshop and was told that the problem couldn't be found, but that perhaps the throttle system needed to be cleaned after 30,000 miles. This cost around $250. The problem happened a third time at about 10 miles per hour on may 17, 2013. This time the vehicle didn't start as in the past. Had both engine light and wrench light. Had to be towed. This time, the dealership repairshop, norris Ford techs, said that it was definitely the throttle mechanism and that it had to be replaced. It was in the shop for three days since they had to order the part. Despite this major repair, it happened again today, June 7, 2013. I had the cruise control set at 55mph. The car lost power, started shaking, and stalled. I've been luckly so far that noone has hit me from the back, but I'm very concerned and afraid that I decided to report it. This Ford Fusion problem needs to investigated.

11 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2012

2010 Ford Fusion on Nov 8 2012 driving approximately 67 miles per hour with cruise control on and set, vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. Repair light (lighted wrench) came on, cruise control went from green to amber. Engine remained on but accelerator no longer worked. When accelerator depressed, engine did not respond. Vehicle coasted to a stop. Brakes, steering, and lights still worked. Once stopped, shifted to park and depressed the accelerator and still no response from the engine. Turned car off. Restarted car. Restart took a few extra seconds but did start. Car operation returned to normal. Cruise control worked. No further issues. Weather was clear, no rain or wind, road was smooth.

12 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2012

On freeway going 65mph with cruise control in pause mode. When I tried to accelerate I heard a noise, the wrench light went on & I lost all power although the motor continued to idle at very low rpm. After being towed, the car started right up and seemed fine. Took it to Ford and they found no codes coming up. 3 weeks later the exact same thing happened. Ford again said no codes. I read all of the reports about the bad electronic throttle body problems people were having, I told the dealer to replace it even if they were not going to pay for it. The dealer insisted he had never heard about this problem even though I gave him 11 pages of complaints from the NHTSA website. Ford did not pay for the repair. This can be a very dangerous safety issue. I was lucky enough to get off to the side of the freeway in time before getting hit. There should be a recall.

13 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2012

I had been driving on a surface street for about 1 mile after coming off a highway. The car had come to a stop at least twice at traffic lights. I was coasting (foot not on brake or accelerator) when the car accelerated on its own from ~30 mph as if the cruise control (cc) had been activated. I touched the brake as quickly as possible (probably < 1sec of acceleration) and conditions returned to normal. Looking at the dash, I noted that the cc master switch was on, but cc was not active before acceleration event or after braking. State during acceleration is unknown. My fingers were nowhere near the cc buttons (or any other steering wheel buttons) when the event occured. Prior to the event: I was on a highway traveling about 60-65 mph with cc on and active. When cc is active, I always keep a thumb on the cancel/resume button. Traffic slowed and I braked, then hit c/r (turning cc back to active -- my error). I immediately noticed the error and set the cc back to inactive (either by brake or cancel, I can't recall). Cc was left in its master-on/inactive state when I came off the highway with active velocity set somewhere in the 60-65 mph range. This was the state of the cc system when the above described event occured.

14 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

While traveling on the expressway with the cruise control on my engine returned to idle speed and there was no response from the accelerator pedal. I had to coast to a stop on the shoulder, put the car in park, shut it off, and restart it. The next day this happened again twice, the check engine light came on, I read the code and it was p2112 throttle actuator control system stuck shut. I did some research and there are apparently some known problems with the throttle body assembly. My car is out of warranty and the dealer told me this part isn't covered under the extended emissions warranty. I was lucky that this didn't happen while I was turning or merging into traffic.

15 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

My 2010 Ford Fusion lurched forward and then stalled while on the highway driving with the cruise control on. The service engine light and a wrench appeared on the dash. I was losing speed and had to get to the side of the highway causing the semi and other vehicles behind me to slam on their brakes. . . The semi narrowly missed me. Once to the side of the highway I turned my car off waited a second and restarted it. It ran fine for about 5 miles and it did it again. It did this a total of 4 times on the way to work and 5 on the way home. I took the car in to a service center and the code they got was "p2111 throttle actuator stuck open". I looked online and found that 2011 and 12 Fusions had been recalled for this problem but not the 2010 but see that many 2010 owners have had this same issue as I have had. Why are 2010 Fusions not being recalled for a bad throttle body? it is a very scary and serious problem and only a matter of time before someone is injured or even killed. I was lucky.

16 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

While cruising between 65 - 70 mph, vehicle stuttered, then "throttle control/transmission' warning light illuminated, and vehicle lost power. Accelerator pedal completely unresponsive and engine becomes erratic, but power steering and other electrical components unaffected. Able to coast to side of road, where engine continues to sputter, but does not stall. Changing transmission position has no effect. Turning vehicle off and then back on appears to rectify the condition. Two identical occurrences, but first time (06/15/12) with cruise control on, second time (07/06/12) with cruise control off. Dealership unable to find source of problem.

17 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2011

While going 70 mph on the highway I experienced the same issues. My car stalled out shut off the cruise control and started shaking uncontrollable. I shut off the car and waited about five minutes and started it back up drove maybe another ten miles and it started again. On the following day I took it to the dealership where I purchased it from and they made it seem as if I had no ideal of what I was talking about. Once they realized I knew that it was the throttle body assembly that was the problem I was told that this was not a part that was covered under warranty so I would have to pay for it out of pocket. I took the time to talk to several reps at Ford and I was told that if the mechanic did not think it was defective then there was nothing they could do. I talked to the mechanic at the dealership and they told me that it just stopped working. So I ended up paying $479. 05 for a new throttle body assembly and having to be without my car for a total of four day. Only to get it back with a cracked windshield, but that is a different issue.

18 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph with the cruise control engaged down hill it would not adjust the speed; yet, the rpms increased to 4000 while the engine made a high pitch screaming noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the software repaired; however, it would not solve the problem. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that it must be a characteristic of the vehicle and they don't know how to repair the failure. The failure and current mileages were 13,000. Updated 10/21/10. The consumer stated instead of slowing the engine down to maintain speed when going down a steep grade, it revs really high. A service technician stated there was definitely something wrong, but there was no fix for it. Updated 10/26/10.
