Trunk Wiring Problems of Ford Fusion

On multiple occasions the trunk has popped open fully on its own. I have woken up to my trunk open on multiple occasions. I even witnessed it open itself. I had used the keypad on my car, then locked my car. I sat on my porch and 10 minutes later I watched the trunk pop open. The keys were on the table so it wasn’t an accidental press of a button. I’ve noticed it usually happens after using the keypad. The keypad also has issues itself and often times in the hot sun the keypad just doesn’t work and can leave you stranded. The trunk thing can happen in any climate though. I’ve had the trunk pop open around 10 times.

Trunk pops open unprompted frequently, often while driving. This is an electrical issue that Ford is not fixing.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving or stationary, the trunk would independently open without warning. The contact reached out to a dealer and made an appointment to have the vehicle inspected. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

Was driving and pulled up to a stop light and noticed a foul smell that smelled like brakes from vehicle next to me. Pulled into my work and the smell got really strong and I noticed some smoke starting to roll from the trunk of my car. I opened the trunk to find that the trunk had caught fire. I was able to put the fire out but the whole light assembly had been burned along with some wiring and the molding that houses the light assemblies. Recall issued for Ford taurus but not fro Fusion with same bad parts.
