Lose Power Steering Problems of Ford Fusion Hybrid

While driving today at 55mph my power steering lights blinked on then lost my power steering. Managed to barely get off the road . Very scary and can't believe the number of complaints for the power steering!! could have easily went off the road and over the mountain today. Have to take to the dealer Monday to see what its going to cost to repair. . Please do a recall as I had no idea how many complaints people have made. It is a life threat!!! 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid 67,000 miles.

Vehicle lost power steering while driving. Warning lights came up on the dashboard about lost power assist. I managed to pull out of traffic and to stop. After first restart the problem did not go away, but after waiting 15 minutes and restarting again, it did.

Vehicle lost power steering one year ago and dealer repaired. Vehicle lost power steering again. Warning light came on as soon as I turned the wheel on the first corner that power steering and stability needed checking. Once vehicle was turned off and back on again, lost all power to the steering making it extremely difficult to steer the vehicle. Very dangerous situation and apparently what they did to fix it the first time was not effective. I see there is some sort of recall on the 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrids but despite all the complaints nobody has effectively addressed the issue.

Driving on interstate suddenly warning service power steering soon light came on and within seconds service power steering now & I lost power steering! very dangerous ! car is at Ford dealership now & before they even check car I'm told it will be a very expensive repair as if I had something to do with problem. This tells me it is a very common complaint, I called Ford motor before going & was given a case number to get me off the phone,.

While driving lost power steering to manual. There is a recall for the 2011 but not the 2010!! this is horrible and very scary. I was on a highway 24 in colorado springs.

One day when driving my vehicle I completely lost power steering. I managed to get to a safe place on the side of the road. I restarted the car and the power steering returned, the failure is due to a malfunctioning rack and pinion. Ford has gone to a completely electronic rack and pinion; resulting in now issues on owners part for lack of proper fluid changes/service. I took the car to Ford to have it checked for a recall and they stated their was none. A few days following the initial loss of steering I lost it completely and it has not returned. Ford has submitted documentation regarding 2011-2012 Ford Fusion Hybrids, Lincoln hybrids and various other models that have had a similar issue. The vehicle has roughly 133k miles and was purchased used. I am unsure as to when my vehicle was manufactured late 2012 and sold in 2013 or manufactured early 2013. I have experienced the same issues as the previous models, have had the dealer check my vehicle and have been told that my only option was $3200 repair for them to replace. I have attached a safety recall document (part 573 safety recall report) 15v-340 omb control 2127-004 I would request that the part be replaced and covered by the manufacturer as they have several reports and recalls for similar vehicles.

Power steering failure . I lost power steering completely. Car only has 76. 181 miles on it. Brought into Ford dealer and they said it was a power steering failure. Cost of repair 1500. 00 plus tax to replace. Its at keyser & miller Ford inc , collegeville PA to replace the whole power steering. Lot of complaints on this issue. Is why isn't there a recall on this. . . . . ??? I shouldn't have to pay for this complete replacement.

Sister was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid home from work on the freeway going about 80mph as she lost power steering. She went up an embankment and flew threw the air and hit a pillar. We know advance trac light was coming on the day before that from her google activity. She will never be able to tell us because she died in the crash that was cause from the power steering loss on 8/29/17. She was 17 yrs old. This is a tragic loss for our family and is not ok for Ford to sell cars like this. Someone do something!!!!.

My 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid suddenly lost power steering on 08/10/2017. The 'service power steering now' warning light came on. My son was fortunately in a parking lot and not a highway when this occurred as he lost all ability to turn the vehicle. I had the car towed to a local Ford dealership. I read up about recalls but the dealership said this was only for 2011 and 2012 Ford fusions. The car has been operated on roads and highways throughout and never taken offroad. The dealership says I have to replace the the steering gear and rack assembly at a cost of $2000. This is a faulty part and the car cannot be driven without a replacement. I know there is an open NHTSA investigation that hopefully will be concluded soon. I have no choice but to pay for the repair and hope for reimbursement from Ford for this faulty part later.

While driving I received the following warning indicators on the dashboard "service power steering now" and "service advance trac" luckily I was driving on local roads and not at highway speeds. I cannot imagine the panic and danger posed to myself and others if I lost power steering on the highway. This is definitely a very serious hazard and should be recalled before someone looses their life.

Steering: 15s18: 03/06/2017, spoke to bemond of Ford motor customer service dept. He informed me there is a recall of this vehicle but Ford would not authorize a repair unless the car lost the power steering and changed to manual steering. I offered that sudden loss of power steering while traveling interstate speeds could cause an acccident and/or death of occupants. Since Ford motor knows about this problem they should authorize the repair before it shows symptons.

My power steering went out while my wife was driving the car with my kids in it. She totally lost all power steering making a turn, I took to the dealer and they said they had to replace the rack. About 3 months later it happened again while she was getting ready to turning in our driveway. I took back to the dealer they said it was fine just needed reprogrammed. It worked for about 6 months and now it is doing the same thing. I cant afford to take it to the dealer again so it is sitting in my driveway.

While driving on a busy street (with 2 small children) we lost all power steering, on a busy street causing unsafe driving conditions. The service advancetrac (avs) and service power steering errors came on as this happened.

Lost power steering and the advance track system. The steering wheel was to hard to turn for my wife and made the car undriveable. It was trailered to a dealer for repair. This a common problem for this year and very costly to fix.

Started up and left the golf course last evening and went about a quarter mile and suddenly the "service power steering" warning came on along with the usual chimes you hear. Lost the power steering and the vehicle was very difficult to drive the 12 or so miles to my home. Also the advance track warning is on.

While driving along at 35 mph the "service power steering" and "service advancetrac system" warning lights came on. Lost power steering. Stopped to see what owner's manual had to say. It said it was okay to drive, but to take it to the nearest dealer. Took it to a Ford dealer in frankfort, ky. They said it was a fuse that had popped up out of its slot in the fuse box. Since the power steering is an electrical assist motor the circuit to the motor was broken when the fuse popped up out of its slot. The fuse was not blown, just lost contact in the circuit. Car was fine until 10,000 miles later. Same problem, loss of power steering. Ford dealer in daytona beach, FL says they found an over temp code and reset code. They could find nothing else wrong with the car that would cause loss of power steering. Drove another 1,000 miles and loss of power steering again in virginia. Took car to nearest Ford dealer in prince george, va. They replaced front control arms. Drove another 600 miles and loss of power steering again. Went straight to the first Ford dealer in frankfort, ky and they say they need to replace the rack on it, but it is now out of warranty. Not sure what to do next or where to take the car. No one really knows what is causing this problem.

Shortly starting my car after a gas fill up and pulling out onto the road, I lost the power steering which almost caused an accident. I was able to 'stress" the steering wheel enough to avoid hitting a parked car. I did see in conjunction with the failure a "service power steering" and "service "autotrack" (sp) I immediately took the car to a Ford dealership who diagnosed the problem to a failed power steering component. This failure is severe. I was fortunate not to be involved in an accident due to this failure but have read many articles where it was the fault of the accident.

Was at dr appointment with my son, backed up and the steering power service light popped up! lost all power steering when driving to get it home, could of died!!! I called Ford to tow car, and they said my warranty ran out 1,000 miles ago. . . . . . There are sooo many complaints that this should be a recall to save lives!!!!! I will never buy a Ford again! part costs about $1400-1600??????? I plan on trading this car I loved in!.

Power steering first failed in the beginning of November 2013. There was 20083 miles on the vehicle. We were driving the car in our subdivision and all of a sudden alarms started and the car was very hard to steer. We were able to force steer the car back home. We shut off the vehicle and started it up again and the power steering started working again. The alarms and warning lights also went off. We brought the vehicle in to our local Ford dealer and they indicated there was nothing wrong. We then had a second event on February 21, 2015 where the power steering failed again. The mileage was 40163. We shut off the vehicle and started it up again and the power steering started working again. The alarms and warning lights also went off. We brought the vehicle in to our local Ford dealer and they indicated there was nothing wrong again. On March 12, 2015 multiple alarms activated and we completely lost power steering and almost got in to an accident due to heavy traffic and the inability to steer the car properly. We were very close to a Ford dealer and was able to force steer the vehicle into the parking lot where we were then assisted by the service department. Diagnostics indicated motor rotation angle sensor internal electronic failure and failure of electronic steering system. The epas system was found to be defective and several parts needed to be replaced.

Power steering failure. Lost power steering during left turn onto street. Had to restart car in intersection to regain power steering. Called Ford dealer who said I would have to pay for evaluation and necessary repair.

I was driving down the a street at 45mph and a power steering fault or failure message came on my instrument cluster. Also the traction control light came on as if the traction control system was off. Most importantly I lost my power steering. With great effort I was able to control the car and pull it off to the side of the road. I turned the car off and turned it back on. The traction control light was still on but the power steering came started working again.

While turning after coming to a stop, the vehicle traction control and power steering warnings popped up and car lost all power steering ability. The vehicle was no longer safely operable while having no listed error codes. The vehicle has been estimated to require replacement electronic power steering gear at a $2000 price tag.

While pulling down my driveway lost power steering. Power steering assist fault message showed on dashboard. Had vehicle tested on machine and the following error codes. U-3000, c-200b and c-200c. Also charging system was checked and was told bad diodes in alternator.

Car lost power steering both while parked and when driving. Replacement cost was $2200 including realignment.

Warnings to "service power steering" and to "service traction control" started blinking alternatively on the dash board while driving. After the car was shut off, all power steering was lost. Had to replace the steering track at about $1500 personal cost because vehicle is out of warranty. Within four weeks of replacement of the steering shaft the same warnings came on the dash again and the car has lost its power steering again after the cut was turned off. While supposedly this replacement shaft is under warranty (because it is only 4 weeks old), the towing and other costs are not. It appears both the original and replacement shafts are defective and dangerous and should be recalled and replaced at the cost of Ford, not the owner. (Ford already has numerous other models recalled for power steering problems. ) a request for some form of follow up is pending with Ford, but no ownership of the issue has been made.

Upon exit off of expressway, car gave message "power assist fault 1" blinking. Lost power steering, also advance trac notice started blinking with picture of skidding car. Total steering loss occurred in stopped traffic as tried to turn corner. Manual difficult steering returned if car was moving. Parked car and visited friends. After 2 hours returned to car and after starting everything worked. No more messages. Car was serviced on July 3rd for 10,000 mile checkup by kindle Ford previous to incident. When called kindle Ford on 7/29 day of incident, said they couldn't do anything as car was working and message gone. Need to wait until happens again. Am totally terrified to drive my new $32,000. 00 car.
