2 Steering Failed problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

Safety recall 15s14 - steering gear motor bolt failure. Ford issued recall 15s14 which impacted my vehicle. The press release states: "customers located in non-corrosion states or provinces will be covered by extended warranty if they experience similar concerns. Dealers will replace steering gear motor attachment bolts on customer vehicles with new bolts, seal them, and replace damaged steering gears at no cost to the customer. " the Ford motor company technical service bulletin to dealers states for sold vehicles "dealers are to remove the original steering gear motor bolts, install revised bolts, and apply sealant to specified areas of the steering gear. If any of the original steering gear motor bolts are broken, missing or break during removal, dealers will replace the steering gear assembly. This service must be performed on affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. " for new in-stock vehicles "dealers will apply either valugard rust inhibitor aerosol vg-101a or daubert nox rust 7703-w to specific locations on the steering gear. This procedure should only be performed on new in-stock vehicles because these vehicles have not had the potential to accumulate corrosion damage in the steering gear motors with time in service. " our vehicle was purchased new from the dealer and we're told they sealed the bolts prior to sale in compliance with this recall however the bolts failed at approximately 50k miles resulting in separation of the steering gear and loss of power steering, making it difficult to turn, especially at low speeds. Ford recall actions for new in-stock outlined in the TSB did not prevent the failure from occurring and did not align with their press statement. Their sealant was a patch solution which bought them time without addressing the root cause which was faulty bolts.

5 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

I have already filed a complaint , #11173709, I am filing again because I wanted to add information to the original complaint but could not find how to do that. This is a 2013 model year car that was purchased new from the dealer in March 2015. The car has been on the road for less than four years and has only 34750 miles. The steering assist has failed, almost causing a fender bender in a parking lot. After researching this , it seems to be a known problem that Ford has with several cars. The cost for repair has been estimated at 1800. 00 plus tax from our local Ford dealer. Another concern I have is that I bought two of these cars at the same time and I am now waiting for the second cars steering to fail.

6 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

Steering assist failure it seems that there have been problems and recalls with this steering issue however the dealership will not address the problem.

7 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/14/2018

Vehicle steering wheel lost assist function and became extremely difficult to steer. There was no error message or code. Turned off ignition and restarted steering began working again. Drove remainder of the day without issue. Parked car for evening. The next day started car and steering felt locked. Put car in reverse steering g wheel would not turn. Applied brakes firmly. . . Found steering would turn but with great effort. No visible warnings on dash. Turned off car. Restarted car. . . Green go light on, no warnings steering still very difficult. Placed car in drive rolled forward a few feet and applied brakes firmly. Steering became normal. Drove car to dealer in August 2018 and explained situation. Dealer performed diagnostics and found no steering or drive related codes. Cleared codes and said to bring it back if it happened again. 4 months later (Dec) car repeated steering failure upon startup without any code or alarm. Cycled ignition several times and steering became normal. On Dec 14, 2018 while driving received visual notification of "steering fault service now". No apparent issues with steering so drove home. On Dec 15, I started car and received visual message " steering loss stop safely" and steering was again very difficult. Took car to dealer on Dec 17. Dealer notified me that steering gear needed to be replaced. $2300+. I feel there is a dangerous defect in the steering module and more people will have issues. The lack of diagnosis by the vehicle sensors of an issue and the dealers inability to verify the faults I experienced makes this car unsafe in my opinion. Please look into this. I am just lucky I was not driving when it failed completely.

8 Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/13/2018

I parked my car on the driveway yesterday and when I went out to use it today I can not turn the steering wheel. Dash shows "power steering assist fault". After investigation on the internet, I see numerous complains and lawsuits regarding this exact issue. Thank god I was not driving the vehicle when the steering assembly failed. I understand Ford has voluntarily recalled model years 2011 through 2013 to repair this issue, however my 2010 VIN was not included. Apparently replacement of the failed ps assembly is the only option and the cost is over $2,000. Even after replacement, I don't feel confident the issue won't happen again base on numerous user comments that had their care repaired. I believe the NHTSA is investigating this issue and has over 850 filed complaints. What is the status of that investigation?.

9 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/23/2017

Reversing the car out of my garage I noticed the steering wheel was very difficult to turn and the "steering assist fault" message came up on the dash. Car is still driveable, but very difficult to turn steering wheel at low speeds. I took the car to the Ford dealer. They say they carried out the recall affecting the steering safety bolts from 2015 (15s14) and that this is a new problem. They say I need a new steering gear/rack. It looks like a lot of people are experiencing the same issue. I'm lucky I was just reversing out of my garage and not driving at speed when the steering assist failed. That would have been very dangerous.

10 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/09/2017

Loss of steering. Steering gear failed at 51,536 miles. Vehicle was parked in garage. Turned the vehicle on and there was a message indicating a problem and the steering wheel would not turn. Completely losing steering wheel at such low mileage is deep cause for concern for a vehicle that is 5 years old.

11 Steering Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

Mechanical clunking noise when initiating turns, either direction. Diagnosed as steering gear failure but as not a failure related to the ongoing recall.

12 Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/22/2015

I previously reported the steering failure on my Ford, and I was gratified to see Ford recalling the 2011 and later models of this car for this steering problem. When I had my steering harness replaced on my 2010, however, my mechanic said it was the same part as the 2011. If so, why did you not recall the 2010s as well? it was the first model year of the car and suffers from the same problem.

13 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/06/2015

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at a very slow speed the steering completely failed and the driver had no ability to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that two out of three bolts in the steering gear motor assembly fractured. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,981.

14 Steering Failed problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Pulling into a parking lot warning light came on that said steering fault - service now. I went into my appointment came out started that car to go to the Ford dealer which was approximately 15 miles away and when I started to back out of my parking space - warning light saying "steering failure-pull over safely along with alarms and the traction control light were flashing in warning and I had zero steering capability. Had to call road side assistance. It was less than 50 feet that I had driven from the first warning light. In my opinion if I had been on the interstate or driving in inclement weather the warning light did not give enough warning to safely allow me to get myself and my car out of danger.
