Ford Mustang owners have reported 24 problems related to carburetor (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Mustang based on all problems reported for the Mustang.
Gas pedal stuck with throttle open. Carpet (not the floor mat, but the carpet) had come unhooked from its hold down system and was jammed under the throttle keeping it open.

Ford experimented with a composite intake manifold. The intake manifold cracked and catastrophically failed due to this new material. Ford knows about this problem and has a secret recall on 01m02. Other drivers have had accidents following this failure because the smoke gets so thick that it is impossible to see. There was so much smoke that I thought my car was on fire. This problem needs to be recalled by Ford, and Ford should pay the towing bills of those of us who have needlessly suffered this failure.

Consumer noticed water leaking from vehicle. Dealer stated plastic intake manifold had cracked, and needed to be replaced.
Vehicle was leaking coolant due to a crack in the intake manifold. Contacted dealer.
Intake manifold failed due to plastic material used on original part - replacement part is made of aluminum and plastic - this indicates manufacturer knew about original design being faulty.

Consumer took vehicle to auto center for a squeak behind tire, the problem was due to the intake manifold busting at a seam and had sprayed coolant everywhere, the intake manifold was made out of some kind of plastic, there was a recall and the prior owner had recall repairs complete, however recall component failed again, Ford will not reimburse consumer for the faulty intake manifold.
Intake manifold cracked and lost all coolant on the highway. Mechanic reported problem is not uncommon, but no recall issued.
Intake manifold cracked and is leaking anti-freeze . Consumer states vehicle may catch on fire. Please provide any further information.
Intake manifold is made of plastic, this lead to it cracking and anti-freeze coming out. Could not see while driving.
Intake manifold is cracked in the exact same place on the exact same part that had recalls the two previous years. Recall number 97m91. I called Ford and they said my VIN isn't covered. Obviously, whatever they did to "fix" the problem didn't work. There are also select VIN's that are covered for the exact same problem in my year car. Why would they only replace certain manifolds? they could have had left over intakes from the previous years faulty batch that they installed on various cars from my year, and think they will get away with not replacing it because my VIN isn't showing up as made in factory "x" which had faulty parts made from a bad casting. Curiously, the intakes from the two previous years have a 7 year no-questions-asked replacment program going on for the same car, same model, same engine. What did Ford do to alleviate the problem for my year car? my guess is nothing. Also, the way we found the crack initially was by a suggestion from a Ford parts/service tech who specifically told me to "check the intake for a crack under the thermostat housing". Isn't that a little too coincidental????.
Lifetime recall on plastic intake manifold.
The intake manifold is cracked. Ford has recalled many of their 4. 6l intake manifolds in their crown victorias, but not in the same engine in the Mustang. They need to!! please help.
After driving about 40 mph then stopping found out that steam and engine coolant was coming out. Towed vehicle to a near shop, they noticed that intake manifold had split. Please provide more information.
Consumer states while driving the vehicle the intake manifold was causing vehicle to stall or vehicle will shut down.

Vehicle was leaking fluid. Consumer inspected vehicle and noticed that intake manifold broke. Please provide any further details.
I have noticed that there has been many other listings reguarding the intake manifold.
I have repair invoices and testament from repair facility that this is a common problem due to thin plastic walls of intake manifold.
While driving at about 40-50mph low fluid light came on. Then, consumer noticed that there was smoke coming from engine. When he pulled over there was anti-freeze pouring out onto floor. Contacted dealer, and dealer did not want to fix problem.
Appears that the intake manifold suffered a coolant leak. Is there a recall and what are the details.
The intake manifold erupted and lost all coolant within 30 seconds while travelling the speed limit, uphill. A large cloud of coolant/mist enveloped the car from the engine compartment and blocked vision of the vehicle behind ours.
The plastic intake manifold ruptured under pressure from the coolant system. This failure occurred under normal weather conditions (85-degrees f), but thermostat was most likely still closed. Car had been started for approximately 2- to 3-minutes. Upon inspection of the crack, in the plastic manifold, the fissure appears near the injection mold 'seam'. The crack did not appear near the gasket surfaces. The crack was located on the bottom-center of the forward section of the manifold, running perpendicular to the driveshaft. The hairline crack is about 3/4-inch long. To replace the manifold, it cost me $520 in parts and labor. My mechanic felt that this crack was a manufacturer's defect, as a result of poor engineering/manufacture. My personal subjective analysis is that a plastic is inherently weak (cheap crap).
Engine check light came on, and consumer had to add coolant into vehicle due to a leak within the intake manifold.
Cable linkage came loose form the carborator and could have caused and accident.
