3 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 03/26/2016

Had the airbag replaced/ weeks later had the "faulty seal" problem followed by the "sjm " box (Smart junction box) destroyed by the water damage due to faulty seal. Now the sjm is on backorder until Aug. 2016. Seal already replaced in March/2016 when order placed for sjb. Researching the problem there are thousands of complaints regaurding 05-07 Mustang models. Due to make design. Unfortunately, resulting in window motor failure, battery drain, headlights stuck on high beams, turn signals stuck on, insturment cluster malfunction and dash lights fail. I have searched for any recall information and civil suite/ class action. The dangers and the numbers are clear, Ford needs to be investigated on this matter. The Ford customers deserve to be compensated for their losses and damages. Especially in the case of individuals whom are waiting for the sjm box to be manufactured due to shortage of materials.

In addition, an independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle where a trouble code was not detected. Recently the fuel gauge failed to operate. The vehicle had not been repaired for either one of the defects. The manufacturer was notified and they informed that there was not a recall related to the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

7 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

My car shows erratic needle movement and gauges are reading over heat 0 miles per hour while moving and sticks at 120 mph after use and is parked. Gas meter is off, odometer is off, it's very scary to drive and expensive. Already dealt with the water leak issue form passenger side. Cluster panel is broken I believe. Bad dash board. Hundreds of forums explain same issues on going years on new models. Not safe or fair for Ford to not address this death trap.

8 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

The gauge clusters failed. The speedometer failed and is no longer working. Rpm and fuel gauge are starting to fail. From what I have read on-line. The 2005 Mustang gauge motors were poorly designed and Ford fixed the problem in the 2006 models but failed to fix the defective parts in the 2005 models.

9 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

Instrument cluster failure - speedometer and tachometer gauges pegged at 0 and un-responsive - known problem to Ford. Should be covered as recall.

10 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/05/2011

The speedometer, gas gauge and fueling guage on the instrument cluster has failed. Today the lighting behind the panel started to go out. This is a known common problem on the Mustang with several people reporting to Ford without any response to the public. We paid good money for these cars and this is a safty hazard. I cannot afford the 600+ quote, so I'm using a gps to guage my speed and I'm having to track my mileage so I know when to get gas. Ford needs to recall and fix before someone looses their life.

11 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

2005 Ford Mustang instrument cluster fails. It will either not work or is improperly reporting speed, temperature, battery, tachometer, and gas supply.

12 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

2005 Ford Mustang - instrument cluster failure. The speedometer guage shorted out, heat guage improper reading, and tach stuck. Concern of an electrical fire. In reading more information, many 2005 Ford Mustangs have this problem that can cost up to $800. Ford should recall.

13 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

I own a 2005 Mustang gt coupe 5-speed which has been garaged since it was picked up from my local Ford dealership. At time of incident it had 29,*** miles. The car was only hand washed and in only a handful of rainy days. During the winter months the car gets taken off full coverage insurance and covered. When spring time arrived it was uncovered and ready to be on the road again. The car started up as it would when running it though the winter. Unfortunately the car was left uncovered in a rainstorm shortly after. The next day when it was started the cluster gauge went out. White smoke began to come up and out from under the dashboard. The extreme smell of electrical fire was present. The car was turned off and fuses inspected. There was dampness within the passenger side carpet. So, I then checked the Smart junction box* located in the passenger side kick panel. It had a thin white sheet of foam covering it which looked odd to me. I saw that the fuse responsible for the cluster gauge had burnt up and broke. I replaced it with the same amp fuse and it popped then smoke once again came out from the dashboard and the same electrical smell followed. Not one light or needle works on the gauges other than the yellow airbag light which remains on. Traction control button, reverse lights, door/light chime, and ac do not work. TSB 08-26-7 report exists about the issue. The dealership that the car was purchased wont honor their role in this issue. I called Ford motor company directly and they had a supervisor call me a few days later. The supervisor stated I am responsible for paying to have the car diagnosed and fixed. Ford obviously knows of the issue which is why they put a "band-aid" of a sheet of foam to try to keep water that they knew would leak onto the sjb. The TSB report was created because there have been so many problems due to the leak. It's been months of researching. Ford should issue a warning that their cars will have a major electrical failure if rained on.

14 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 12/13/2010

While driving in the evening the engine temperature and fuel gauges failed. The temperature gauge gradually kept climbing higher above the red line. An inspection of the engine compartment reveled that the engine was operating at normal temperatures. The fuel gauge also started registering incorrect reading; gradually moving past the full line even though no fuel was added. Starting and stopping the engine caused the fuel gauges and temperature gauges to turn clockwise (or higher). Both gauges currently point down and are effectively useless. The repair shop in researching how to replace or repair the component and how much the part will cost. The failed components appear to be linked to the vehicle's speedometer.

15 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang gt. The contact stated that when he started the vehicle he noticed that the speedometer, and the rpms were given an incorrect reading of zero. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the instrument panel cluster board failed and it was replaced. The failure and the current mileages were 49,289.

16 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

All of my gauges are out. . I don't know my speed, temp of my car, etc. Dealership advising the cluster is out & its a common problem. Estimate for repair is about $1200. 00. I see multitudes of complaints for this same reason. . Same year & make & model. This obviously should be a recall.

17 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the tail lights would go out on an intermittent basis. Also, the cluster panel was completely inoperable. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and they confirmed that the cluster had failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

18 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 03/24/2010

Speedometer began working erratically at around 33,000 miles. Speedometer needle would hover at 20mph when in idle and would jump up to 80mph and then work sometimes, other times it would stay at zero. Have not noticed any changes due to weather (rain or temperature). Compared speedometer reading with gps speed and found inconsistencies of up to 10 mph when the speedometer did work. Speedometer complete failure at 33,500 miles. Temperature gauge failed at same time. I'm concerned about not knowing how fast I am going. I drive "pacing" traffic which still is not safe. Multiple incidents of instrument cluster failures reported on several Ford Mustang forums by current owners. Fords solution is a new instrument cluster which costs about $700. Apparently the problem is with the failing stepper motors that drive the gauges. This should be a recall item as it does present a serious & potentially deadly situation in not knowing what the car's actual speed is. Instrument clusters usually don't fail much less at 33,000 miles! there is clearly a design flaw, please issue a recall on this item!.

19 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. While driving approximately 50 mph, the instrument cluster stopped working. The contact stated that each gauge failed separately. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repair. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

20 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/28/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that instrument cluster failed as none of the gauges on the instrument panel illuminated or functioned at all. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the cluster was not functioning and needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer and was told that there were no recalls or warranties for the failure. The current and failure mileages were approximately 60,000.

21 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

My tachometer fail a few years ago. When I took it to the dealer, he said all Mustang gauges fail and to be happy it wasn't the speedometer. Slowly over time all the electrical has been having problems. Sometimes the car won't start, all the gauges stop working, the check engine light goes on and off for no reason. Also the driver seat electrical failed, was replaced and failed again. I couldn't afford to have it fixed.
