My complaint is in regards to the 05n04 recall on my mothers 1998 Ford Mustang. Last Friday my 80 year mother got lost and I sent my niece to pick her up, and on their way home the car caught fire and died, my niece thinking quickly turned the car into fire station and was able to get help fast. I thank god my mother was not driving when the hood fire started, she would have wrecked for sure. I then had the car towed to walt's auto care the next day, which was on Saturday and tests were run to find the reason why the car caught on fire without any type of prior warning from the car obc. It was not until then we were informed of the recall notice and told that it was covered under the recall notice. However, we received a call Monday from walt's stating that they could not do the work and that they had the car towed to another service station named renton auto repair. I was contacted by them to find out who would be paying for the service repairs and it was then I informed him with the same information that was related to me by the first service station. Upon looking it up, I was then told that they could not do the work and I would have to take it to a authorized Ford repair center. I then contacted sound Ford, the place of purchase and was told that it was too late to make a claim for repairs, because the campaign had closed for our car year in 2006 and it would have had to fail before that time. I then explained the car was brought in for repairs in 2004 and we were never informed of any such on-going repairs, part replacements or recalls notices. I truly feel this is not just or fair treatment to consumers and customers. Because, we were never notified about the recall and the part failed after their cut off date, we should not have to incur the cost, specially when they (Ford) had full knowledge of the problem but failed to inform us about the defect part which could have kill my mother if she were driving at that time.

The consumers 2002 Ford Mustang was parked at a curb and turned off when it caught on fire under the hood. The car had been sitting for about 45 minutes. There was no cruise control used. According to the police and fire department the fire was caused by an electrical short underneath the hood of the vehicle. There were no lights on the dashboard that indicated a problem. The vehicle was fairly new and in good condition. The area around the battery and wiring was burnt. Everything under the hood melted and was destroyed. The inside of the car did not look burned because the fire department was so quick to respond. The owner usually kept the vehicle parked in the garage or under his pine trees. There were no injuries.

My 2000 Ford Mustang lost all its power after I just pulled out of a parking lot. I then noticed smoke coming from under the hood on the passenger site. About 1-2 minutes later I saw flames coming from the same place. As I exited the car and closed the door all the interior lights flashed on and a horrid noise came from the front right side of the car. I immediately called the fire department but by the time they arrived 10-15 foot high flames were shooting in the air from the front of the car [this all started to happen incredibly fast] and there also was lots of black smoke. One of the firemen/ladies told me that it looked likr the fire had started in the wiring. All of the front of the car burned out including the hood and someof the dash inside melted and the front windshild started to crack from the heat of the fire.

This is the second saleen that we know of that the identical problem occurred, car # 0208 and mine # 0594, both due to the electrical wiring harness. I've contacted saleen, downs Ford and an attorney for help. Saleen told me they don't know of this ever happening before me, I have documents, name and telephone number of other party.
While driving on the interstate the vehicle stalled when I tried to restart the car I pulled off the road and this when I noticed fire coming out from above the right front tire this car was manufactured with a fiberglass hood which is very flamable the hood caught fire which caught the top on fire which fell into the interior which caught fire and resulted in a total loss of vehicle if this was a wreck and I was trapped in the car when the engine and hood caught fire this would have resulted in a loss of life, Ford should not have installed a fiberglass hood on a convertable ,when I contacted them about the fire they were very cold and seemed to not care that a car they built with only 25,000 miles on it burst into flames while being driven down the road.
