1 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/14/2025

My tail lights just stopped working. I didn't know that they were out until someone behind me told me that they were out. I didn't have any collision, nothing like that. I called the Ford dealership and they told me to bring it in so that they can see what the problem is. They have been having issues with tail lights just going out.

2 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/03/2025

Rear brake lights did not work, but high mount brake light functioned normally. I found a safety recall for the 2019 Ford Ranger for the same condition (19s43). This safety recall identifies connector c442 as the root cause for the incident. Based on this information, I located the connected. I disconnected the connector, did visual inspection. Visual inspection did not find any bent pins, so I reconnected connector. After inspection and reconnection of connector c442 the brake light now work. A little background on me. I’m a retire service engineer from Nissan and I have extensive background in vehicle service issues, recalls and campaigns. Based on my experience, I believe that the incident I confirmed on my vehicle may indicate that the Ford Ranger may continue to have brake light inoperative condition beyond the current safety recall window of vehicle. I have already contacted Ford to advise them of this condition. I offered to make my vehicle available to Ford for inspection, Ford declined.

3 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 03/29/2025

The taillight on the driver's side has never worked properly. Took it for repair to get a replacement bulb. Personnel at local auto parts store were aware of problems on this model vehicle. They stated no replacement bulbs were available because it required an electronic "bulb. " was informed that the part was very expensive, so was unable to get replacement part. Was pulled over by local police and told no lights in rear of vehicle, including brake lights were working. Consumer reports reported same problem with 2019 Ford Ranger and had article "Ford recalls Ranger pickup trucks for taillight problem. " November 25, 2019. Ford recalled 78,264, year 2019 Rangers. My truck is a 2020 Ranger and the problem with the taillights0030 described for 2019 is identical to the one described for 2019.

4 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 03/29/2025

I purchased a 2020 Ford Ranger truck which had, either a faulty "bulb," or other type of device which caused the driver side tail light to not illuminate. I was not made aware of this, as I do not commonly check to see if the taillights were when I turn on the lights to drive at night. However, I observed the faulty taillight probably a year or so after owning the vehicle. The vehicle is not frequently driven, as I brought the 2020 Ford Ranger truck new, and it presently as of April 2025 has about 7300 miles on it. When I became aware of the faulty taillight, I went to the local autozone store to purchase a replacement bulb, and was informed by a fairly knowledgeable individual that my vehicle did not have a standard "bulb" which could be replaced. I was told the unit which housed the component which caused the lighting to occur was an integrated compounded which had to be totally replaced, at a significant cost. I have not made any attempts to remove the component, and was informed there would be a significant cost to do so. On March 29, 2025 I was pulled over by a local sheriff's office indicating there was a problem with not only the taillight on the driver side not operating, but also problems with operation of my brake lights and other lights in the rear of the truck. I was informed that I should get the problem fixed as soon as possible. I did explain that I had previously made an attempt to get the driver side taillight fixed, but the component, was not available to do so. I then began to research the problem, and found an article was online which was attributed to consumer reports entitled "Ford recalls Ranger pickup trucks for taillight problem, automaker says loose electrical connections could lead to a crash" the basis of the November 25, 2019 article stated "Ford is recalling 78,264 of its 2019 Ranger pickup trucks because electrical connector may be loose or not properly installed. As a result the taillights may be inoperative or work intermittently.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

I took this vehicle in on 5-19-2020 for recall (19543/nstsa recall 19v-839). Local dealership removed skid plate, inspection/pass. Over the next 3 yrs. The p/u was taken in because of battery drainage & then battery replacement. May 2024 it was taken in as all the rear lights stopped working (exactly what was stated in the recall letter would happen). Was told at the time that the topper, which a very reputable dealer put on, did the wiring wrong so I was charged over $1300 for repairing the wiring. The topper was put on in 2019, recall was 2020, and nothing was found then. An inspection was done and not replacement of rear lights wiring. I came very close to several rear-end collisions as I hadn't realized no rear lights in may 2024. Now, I'm getting "system off to save battery. Please turn ignition off or start engine" again on the console. I've contacted Ford at dearborn and was referred back to local dealership and they have given me the run around. I was in a week and half ago to show them all the paperwork, was told they'd look it over and give me a call. I've heard nothing. I'm upset that the recall work wasn't done in 2020 but had to pay for the same work to be done in 2024. Since the work done in may 2024 really didn't handle the battery being drained, I'd like a new pickup as this one seems to be a lemon, or the dealership isn't doing what they said they did. I have paperwork, but it wouldn't scan onto document.

Head light low beam and high beam work. Trying to get in contact with Ford canada and a Ford dealership. Was scanned at a shop and showed multiple body control module faults and looks like a module. But not touching the vehicle as it has the max warranty they sell this vehicle is in nova scotia, but came from the michigan plant. It will not accept my canadian address.

9 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/06/2022

Regular headlights are excessively bright. Oncoming traffic is constantly flashing their bright lights with implications that my Ford Ranger's lights are on bright and not normal setting. This seems to be dangerous to oncoming traffic. It happens repeatedly every morning I am driving in the dark (5:00am-6:30am) dealer said that there is nothing they can do. No indications that the bright lights are on (bright light symbol not appearing).

10 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/27/2022

As I was pulling out of zip's car into a parking spot to vacuum truck. I was barely moving when the truck accelerated at a high rate of speed and hit the wall in front of me. It was like the truck had a mind of its own. I just knew I wasn't doing it. If someone had been walking in front of me it would have killed them. My air bag did not come out. My chest hit the steering wheel very hard. The police showed up and did a report. I did not get a ticket. The truck was towed and looked over. There was so much damage to the truck it was totaled. I can't believe this happened to me. I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone. It was a very scary experience.

11 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/02/2022

The lighting on the shift lever that shows what mode the transmission is being selected is missing. Apparently Ford stopped installing the lighting that lights the "park, reverse, neutral, drive" in the shifter beginning in 2021. This is a serious safety issue because at night, the driver cannot look down at determine what mode is being selected. The dealer stated to me the selected mode is in the driver console at night. I'm a 5'9" male and any time the wheel is turned or my hand in on the wheel, I cannot see the mode selected. I quickly realized this the first time I drove the vehicle at night, none of the lighting on the shifter was on. I thought it was broken! basically Ford has skimped a few dollars and not installed internal night lighting on the lettering. A simple correction for this is require Ford to install the lighting in the unit as a retrofit kit (basically put back what they stopped installing). This would not incur a great expense or time, however, this could prevent the driver from selecting the wrong mode causing abrupt forward or backward movement injuring another person or vehicle when moving the vehicle out of park, in particular, backing in or out of parking spots for example that require you to turn the vehicle (aka wheel not centered). If not requiring a recall, Ford should make this retrofit available to owners because as of right now, I was told there is none. I included a short video showing the impeded view of the shift mode selected on the driver panel when the steering wheel is being moved and not at wheel centered. At night, this would be the only lighted shifting reference. I also included a day photo of the same view, a view of an earlier 2020 Ranger (that had the shifter lighting standard) and my 2022 Ranger shifter at night with no lighting. The current standard equipment lighting presents a safety hazard and is directly related to the movement of the vehicle so the likelihood of injury or occurrence are both high.

13 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 03/03/2021

I have two Ford trucks and both have instrument panels that are impossible to read in daylight except for the speedometers. They both have the dash lights turned up as bright as they will go. Not being able to read my instrument panel gauges is a danger for multiple reasons.

14 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/24/2021

Rear passenger side door is hard to open and close. My seven year old can't open it without help on that side. Warning light comes on while driving sometimes when it is closed. After parking the problem causes the rear tailgate to stay on to drain battery because truck registers the door as ajar. Have to slam and relock several times to get warning and lights to turn off. When an object is in that door's pocket the problem is worse and it may make the alarm go off hours after parking. Often takes several attempts of opening and closing doors and turning interior lights on and off to get the truck locked with all the lights off.

18 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Ford issued a letter noting NHTSA recall 19v-839 in January 2020. I have heard nothing since that latter and wasted much time with my local Ford dealer trying to get information on the recall. They said "no part was available". This is an unacceptable safety issue by Ford. We need the truck inspected and fixed.

19 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

We bought a brand new 2019 Ford Ranger from epic Ford and after purchasing the car our Ford app said we had a recall. We asked the sales people about it and they said we needed to come back the next day to get it fixed and that it would take a few minutes. We then were told the part would be in the next day and that they would call us. Then we were told the part was on back order and that it would be a week. I called service to see if there was any update and we were told that the part would not be in for up to a month and that we could not take the truck to drive in the mean time because it could light on fire. (and this was after they let us leave the lot with the vehicle and drove it home with our two week old infant) the service told us they would keep us updated weekly. We went into Ford a few days later to talk to the general manager so we could get some answers. I was lied to and talked to someone who told me they were the manager but after mentioning legalities he admitted to not being the manager. The general manager came in and he said there was nothing he could do but that he could pay our first bill and give us a loner and that he would contact me for updates. He then ignored my calls and emails about our first bill and would not give me an update. After a month I called service and asked for an update, she said that the general manager gave her specific instructions to not contact us at all. We continued to wait for the part and more than two months went by and we finally got the call we could come get our truck. They illegally sold us a new car with an active recall and lied to us the entire time, avoiding the truth and did the littlest possible for us to try and make it right.

20 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

21 Exterior Lighting problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

The dome light started turning itself on while parked in front of my house. Sometimes it would turn itself back off. It would also turn on while I was driving at night. I couldn't get the light cover off so I pulled the fuse which leaves me with no windshield washer squirter. The check engine light is always on. No mater what is done or fixed, the light stays on which is a problem because cars will usually automatically fail inspection when the check engine light is on. How am I supposed to get it to pass inspection if its on 90% of the time? I never had a problem with my 93 Ranger but other people with Rangers have had the same issues & this site shows others with the same issues. Why won't Ford recall & fix it when its a known problem? these things are safety issues!! I can't add when these things happen because they are ongoing issues for the last tenish years!.

Starting from home, the vehicle had no indication of trouble lights in the instrument panel. Then, driving about 2 miles and up the bridge, suddenly the vehicle slowly came to a stop within quick time and stalled on the uphill direction. A few attempts to restart, I was not successful. The police was called and came to push the Ranger down the bridge to the safety area and waiting two hours later for the tow-truck to tow to the Ford dealer. And, the diagnosis was that the fuel pump is out. This vehicle had histories of repair since the first year and thereafter .

28 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

The srs passenger airbag on/off switch has a lightbulb that is hard wired into the board inside the switch module. It has a relatively short life span, and when the bulb burns out is causes the module to deactivate the srs airbags in both the driver's side and the passengers side. This causes the occupant(s) to be unprotected as the airbags cannot deploy in the event of a collision. This is the 2nd occurrence of this in my vehicle in the last 4 years, and from what I have been able to glean in online research, this is a "known" problem. . . And no doubt one that Ford motor company is aware of, or should be aware of the existence of the problem, as I personally have reported this to Ford motor company. Ford motor company's willful neglect to remedy this situation by not changing the switch to allow for the easy and inexpensive replacement of a $1. 00 led lightbulb to allow either the owner of the vehicle or a qualified automobile mechanic with the capabilities of testing for the continuity of the device is being done for the greed of the bottom line, and their total lack of care for the safety of the vehicle occupant(s). I have personally placed a call, and left a voice message on 10/29/13, for [xxx], Ford motor company's general counsel, to call me to discuss the issue, without the decency of a return call in over 24 hours. In the event that Ford motor company does not acknowledge this defect as a major safety defect. . . Which to correct each time costs the owner of the vehicle somewhere in the neighborhood of $150. 00 to $200. 00 for the replacement "oem" part and labor, and also does not reimburse me for these (2) expenses, I will file a suit in u. S. Federal court for the northern district of new hampshire for the recovery of the actual, compensatory and punitive damages, as well as the possibility of expanding this to be a "class" filing.

29 Exterior Lighting problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/20/2007

Guy next door knocked on my door late one night to tell me that my dome light was on. I looked & it wasn't. He said that was odd because he even walked by it & could see inside. A few days later it happened again. Then while driving at night the light came on by itself. From that point on it would randomly turn itself on. Naturally Ford told me that was impossible. The only way I could stop it without paying a ton of money to a garage was to pull the fuse & I've had to use a flashlight if I need a light at night ever since. My truck also has a theft light because a factory alarm was an option for my truck. I do not have an alarm but the word alarm is still on the panel. That light will randomly turn on & say theft. I do not have an alarm! I told Ford & that told me that was impossible since I don't have an alarm. I said that maybe a wire was crossed somewhere but Ford told me," no! ". Talking to other Ranger owners here & there I've found out that not only are there others doing the exact same things but it is also other years besides 1997. I like the truck just tired of Ford & tired of the bs!!.

30 Exterior Lighting problem of the 1998 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/01/2006

98' Ford Ranger: has a cracked frame on the rear right side. Truck makes loud noises when driving and I am afraid it may become worse over time or completely break down in unsafe speeds. I can not sell it, as I was trying to use the money for a new vehicle due to a new baby in our family. No one will buy such a defective vehicle. Also seat belts will not stay latched? also the inside dome light melts right through the covering, where temperatures make the plastic cover bubble and melt.

31 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/31/2003

I purchase this truck brand new from gene evans Ford in August 2003. I started complaining to them a week later that the truck rides as though my butt is hitting the pavement on a trip I took. Everyone ignored my concern in the service and sales department. When the problem was finally notice. I was sold a brand new truck with a severe bent axle and they would not do anything to repair the truck nor give me another one. They all played dumb and stupid as to never seeing the problem in the beginning. Ford still owes me restitution. Dealership should not be able to defraud the public on damage vehicles paying a fortune for just to kill you or someone else. Gene evans knew there was a problem from the onset. There has been a lot of problems with this truck in the past, present and most likely in the future considering the repairs that has already been put into the truck out of my pocket. My vehicle does everthing in all motion and no motion at all. Dangerous things happens including, cutting off constantly, lights are dim on the outside so it is very hard to see at night, rain coming in the rear window, truck started smoking, filled the reservoir and over flowed spewing the antifreeze all over the engine. It sounded like food was frying in very hot grease. There is a stinking odor, smells like very strong urine . Sickening feeling comes over me and anyone in the truck. Abs and check engine lights will not go off. The passenger window is moving slow as though it is going to stop. Trucks jumps which causing me to bounce up and down while idling or at a stop.

I had gone by the dealership 4 times, and can't get any of these taken care off. 5800 miles later, I still have these problems. The body shop manager said he isn't set up like the manufaturer, and the service manager is full of I'm sorries. Larry kramer is the engineer representative with Ford. I have asked the dealer to replace the vehicle , they said I am sorry we already got your check from the bank, and we would not be able to replace this truck. Larry kramer would not give me any straight answers. He was ready to fight, I do'nt know what to do with this truck . I am concerned for my safety!.
