Intermittent failure of the tail blinkers and brake lights. Initially after vehicle startup everything functions properly. After driving for some time, 30-60 minutes, the blinkers start behaving like a bulb is out. This happens for both driver and passenger blinkers, not necessarily at the exact same time but generally both fail pretty close to each other. Sometimes the blinkers will then start working again while still driving, sometimes they don't start working again until after the vehicle has been turned off for some time. Investigated with the vehicle stopped but still running after the issue occurred and front blinkers function properly, both rear blinkers bulbs don't work at all, tailight bulbs dimmly blink. Brake lights dimly illuminate when brake is applied. Third brake light functions properly. Issue has recurred almost every time I have driven the vehicle longer than 30 minutes in a stretch.

On July 10, 2005 the contact's vehicle was involved in an accident. Was sitting at a red light with the car in neutral. The bakes were not pressed. Because there were no brake lights illuminating the vehicle was hit from behind. The contact felt that vehicles should be equipped with brake lights that should stay on while the vehicle was not moving. This was a safety defect in all manual transmission vehicles. The vehicle sustained damage to the rear bumper and deck. There was no police report taken. The two vehicle operators only exchanged phone numbers. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. There were no injuries sustained by the vehicle owner or the operator of the other vehicle. Updated 12/27/05.

Brake light wiring assembly failed.
Vehicle's brake lights also function as the turn signals indicators. Consumer feels this design is very unsafe because if your are braking and signaling for a turn, you lose 1/2 of braking "visibility" to alert other traveling vehicles. This design defect increased the risk of rear-end collisions.
