1 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/13/2023

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the vehicle was idling for approximately 1 minute, then the vehicle started revving up with the rpm above 7,000. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal seemed to be stuck, causing the vehicle to accelerate forward. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle came to a stop. The check engine warning light was displayed. There was an abnormally loud sound coming from the vehicle. The contact immediately turned off the vehicle. The following day the vehicle was driven to a certified mechanic who replaced the throttle body and accelerator pedal assembly. After returning to the residence and attempting to exit the vehicle with the vehicle idling, the failure recurred. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

2 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Taurus. On several occasions, while the brake pedal was depressed, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. As a result, the contact's foot came in contact with the accelerator pedal. The accelerator pedal became depressed while the brakes were also being applied. The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that his wife was involved in an accident which resulted in her death. The vehicle was totaled. There was no one else in the vehicle. The police report stated that the driver ran a stop sign and was hit on the driver side by another vehicle which caused the fatality. The contact stated that before the incident, the accelerator pedal had occasionally stuck and the contact believed that to be the cause of the accident. The contact spoke with a local dealer who stated that they had heard of no such failures with the model. The current and failure mileages were approximately 260,000. I was slowly pulling into a parking space with my foot off the accelerator and ready to brake, when suddenly the car accelerated. I had to "stand" on the brake to stop the car. Had I not done so, the car would have hopped over the parking block, broken through a fence and hit a building.

11 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

The contact stated when coming to an abrupt stop the engine continued to race and lurched forward. This occurred for only a short time. The consumer then had to apply the brake and put the transmission in neutral to get it to stop. The vehicle was seen by the service dealer who attached a black box. The problem occurred only once during the testing period. Because the problem was intermittent the dealer was unable to obtain accurate diagnosis. While driving the vehicle at 65, mph, the consumer was coming to an exit, and began to slow down. Then. It accelerated, and the consumer could not stop the vehicle with the brakes. The vehicle is now parked.

13 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/28/2004

Had a 2000 Taurus which went out of control. Going approx. 57 mph down a highway my car suddently decided to speed up on its own. I suddenly was going in the upper 70's. I put the brake clear to the floor and got the car down to 65 mph. I took my foot off and the car sped up again. I slammed down on the brake again and got it back to 65 mph. Called the police and begged for help as I was nearing a high school entrance. Rear ended a minivan before I got to the school. Was told that the throttle body stuck. It immediately became "unstuck" upon impact. Had to be towed to Ford in jefferson city, mo for repairs. Repairs and rental car costs added up to over $700. Used information from this site and contacted Ford directly. After two days was told I would be reimbursed to "maintain customer loyalty. ".

14 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Car accelerated out of control. After passing a car, my car continued to accelerate. The accelerator did not disengage after taking my foot off of the accelerator. The vehicle accellerated to speeds in excess of 80 mph. When applying the brake pedal, the care slowed from 80 mph to 60 mph. After pressing on the brakes with as much force as possible, the vehicle continued to accelerate. After several minutes and several attempts to slow the vehicle, the vehicle was stopped despite the continued acceleration. As the vehicle was accellerating I checked and found no pedal obstruction and the car was not in cruise contral mode.

While driving vehicle, consumer states' the brake pedal and gas pedal are too close. Consumer states in an emergency situation consumer may press gas instead of brakes, and cause an accident. 25 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Due to the brake pedal and gas pedal being so close together, while parking vehicle, consumer hit gas pedal, causing vehicle to accelerate at about 25mph, hitting into a pole and a parked vehicle. Dealer notified.

Adjustable pedal. Consumer applied brake and depressed accelerator pedal at same time, resulting in a collision at 25mph, and causing minor injuries to driver. Vehicle was totalled. Consumer did not contact Ford motor company about accident.

When coming to a stop sign, accelerator locked up and vehicle sped up. Consumer had to put gear selector in neutral to keep from hitting another vehicle, dealership is aware of problem. The engine also revs when coming to a stop.

When at a complete stop consumer applies gas pedal, pedal goes down, but engine does not rev nor is vehicle moving forward. Then all of a suuden, it will surge forward. Sometimes consumer has to shut off engine to get vehicle to respond. Numerous times to dealer, cannot remedy.
