1 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/03/2021

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently from 45 mph to 65 mph. The contact stated the accelerator pedal was not being depressed during the failure. The brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle to a stop. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected under the hood. The contact noticed that the cruise control cable was jammed up into the accelerator cable which caused the accelerator cable to open. The contact moved the cruise control cable back into the correct position and drove back to their residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

My car will accelerate on its own without me pressing the gas. This happens at least 4 times a week while I am driving and happens when I am driving between 20 and 50 mph. I can make the engine rev/acceleration stop by quickly tapping on the gas pedal. I have had the cruise control disconnected because my mechanic thought this was part of the problem but the random sef-acceleration has continued and seems to be getting more frequent. This has been going on off and on for a few years but has increased in frequency over the past few months.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

Uncontrolled acceleration and cruise control stopped working the same day. Engine accelerates with rpm climbing without any pressure being applied to the gas pedal. The fix for me is to put into neutral and tap the gas pedal which gets the engine to bring the rpm's back down. This happens when driving and in gear usually at less than 50 mph. This has happened everyday for a few weeks. Going to bring it in to be repaired at a Ford dealership.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/16/2018

After exiting the highway, braking to stop a red light, the car proceeded to slowly accelerate on its own. After letting it go for a while, it topped out around 52mph, as if the cruise control was working on its own. I kept pressing off, but that wouldn't work. The car stopped revving rpms when I put it in neutral.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/07/2018

My car accelerates rapidly even when my foot is off the gas pedal; I notice this begins to happen when I go above 50mph. For example, tonight I was driving at about 55mph when I had to brake to go around a curve; I would say I slowed to around 35/40mph. As soon as I took my foot off the brake, the car began accelerating and went all the way up to 65mph within a few seconds. My foot was not on the gas pedal when this happened, and I had to apply a lot of pressure to the brakes for an extended amount of time to get my car to slow back down. This also happened last night, driving at the same speed, except instead of braking for a curve I had to slow for traffic. Once again, as soon as I took my foot off the brake it accelerated. Sometimes it seems as if the gas pedal is stuck, and if I gently tap it a certain way the acceleration issue is resolved, but other times this solution doesn't work. I researched the issue and see that you began an investigation regarding the problem in 2012, but I do not see any current updates. I haven't had the car very long and don't drive it often, so I just began to notice the issue within the past couple of weeks. I have not taken it to a mechanic yet, but based on similar complaints I'm assuming it's the cruise control issue you are investigating. While I have managed to get the speed under control somewhat easily so far, I'm extremely concerned about losing control entirely.

9 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/17/2018

Cruise control stopped working & then a couple weeks later while driving up a hill the accelerator took off by itself like the cruise control was on, when I took my foot off the gas pedal the car continued to accelerate. In a panic I shifted the car into neutral & the engine rev'd up to over 4000 rpm it then quit accerating by itself. 3 days later it does it again, accelerated on its own with my foot off the gas pedal. This is a very dangerous situation. Luckily for me there was no car in front of me. Does someone have to die in order for a recall to be ordered?????.

10 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/02/2017

Takata recall I was driving 60mph and tried to set cruise control and took for off gas abs the car kept accelerating fast. About 80mph I tapped the brake, cruise control light turned off and car kept accelerating and rpms were in the red. I pushed as hard as I could on the brakes and car kept accelerating past 85mph and I was now coming into 30mph zone and rpms were high and I tried to put it in neutral cause I didn't know what to do. The engine revved completely up with rpms and I finally just threw it in park in road and turned car off and called insurance for tow truck. My son said I had burnt my brakes. . Unsure other than there was smoke from someplace under car. I got down and visually and looked for gas pedal to be stuck or anything and it was normal. Tried starting car and immediately turned it back off due to rpms in red. Happened 3 seperate times but mechanic never found anything wrong or what it was so my dad disconnected the cruise control wires or something with cruise control. Car idles now high and rpms run higher than normal. Nobody knows what to fix so I don't know what to fix.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

Driving in intermittent rain showers at 60-70mph I had the engine cut out and dropped out of cruise control. Speedometer and tachometer bouncing up and down. Theft and engine light were flashing on and off at the same time as engine was stalling. Then the engine reengaged at 50-55 mph and continued on now responsive to gas pedal and acceleration. This repeated 5 - 8x in the span of 15 miles and several times pulling over. Weather cleared and drove another 100 miles with no events. Next morning driving kids to school after 10 minutes of running 25-40mph the same problem recurred but engine did not recover and completely stalled 3x in 1 mile. Restarted immediately each time. Reading through potential causes there were no less than 30 other individuals describing the exact same issue. Theft light on and engine stalling while driving. Various solutions proposed from electrical grounds, battery, alternator, fuse. Mega fuse, dpfe (differential pressure fuel exhaust?) sensor, egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system, pcm, icr, and several others. Not sure which it might be. Given there are so many and that it occurs in potentially dangerous situations - at high speed and no warning - this seems to be worthy of an investigation or recall.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/25/2016

When driving the gas pedal sticks to the floor of the car, the cruise control comes on, and the car will just take off. It still stays stuck when you turn the car off. You have to put the car in park and push on the gas pedal until it stops. This happened on 6/25/16 and numerous times since.

13 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Taurus. While driving at various speeds with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The vehicle was able to be stopped and a loud abnormal noise was heard. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

14 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/20/2016

Car in motion at highway speed. Accelerator sticks after taking foot off. On highway and street. Cruise control is off. Must put car in neutral, pull off road, restart car.

15 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/08/2016

Car accelerated with brakes applied, this corrected itself then repeated 3 more times. Took car to my mechanic discovered cruise control arm detached and was getting caught in throttle. Took car to dealer. They will examine on 3/10/16. Called Ford spoke with jeffrey in customer service no recall gave VIN# and reported issue. Discovered this issue has happened to many others with Taurus vehicles. Very dangerous and scary issue. The part is plastic and either wears or bad design because it comes free from the mount and gets caught in the throttle when driving. You don't know until you try to stop. Car wants to keep going and rpm gauge shows throttle being applied with foot off accelerator and on brake. Pushing the gas pedal rapidly dislodge's cruise control arm but it gets stuck again randomly. Mechanic snapped piece back in place but it dislodged again once gas pedal is depressed.

16 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

Sitting at stop light foot on brake vehical accelerates on its on. This is a problemi have experianced before on a 1976 mecury wagon. Its the cruise control. Ford was told then and did nothing but charge me for the inspection saying nothing was wrong. It happened again so I disconected the cruise control. Now its happening on a 2004 Taurus. If I was the one driving it wouldnt concern me but my x-wife panics easy so will disconect her cruise control. Ford needs to fix this before someone dies.

17 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/18/2015

Recently while I was driving my cruise control completely stopped working. Two days after that I was slowing for a red light and I noticed that my car was revving up in gears as I was slowing down. I was barely able to get my car to stop and I shut it down to prevent accident. After the red light was over I started up my car and shifted into drive. That is when I noticed my car accelerating on its own. Without pressing my foot on the gas pedal my car was able to accelerate up to about 45 miles per hour. This car is unsafe and after some research I have found out that there were 14 issues like this reported and others that were not reported (for instance this happened to my sister's 2005 Ford Taurus and she had to repair it out of her own pocket). I wanted to provide this report because Ford is refusing to help with this issue despite this being a clear safety issue. This issue happens while the car is stationary and while moving.

18 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

My 2012 Ford Taurus sho was brought into jones west Ford in reno, nevada. It was at jones west for a power steering recall. While on the interstate back home the adaptive cruise control, faulted and caused a warning to appear, as well as a collision avoidance fault. At the dealership in fallon, the service advisor informed me that the acc module was faulty and needed to be replaced. Fallon completed the work but on a quality assurance ride to ensure the module was working correctly, the technicians found that the vehicle was making steering inputs without the driver turning the steering wheel. The technicians returned to the dealer to diagnose what had caused the steering inputs. They traced the problem back to the abs control module and pump, and ordered a brand new one. They ordered the abs module around the 23rd of November 2015, but due to stocking problems the part did not arrive until around the 24th of December. I was not offered a rental vehicle by the dealership, an apology from Ford for the inconvenience. After the dealership finally received the part and installed it, the technicians ran into a problem with the pcm accepting the new module, a new problem arose; the instrument panel cluster would operate normally for a time and then the lights would dim, and then completely turn off. When the vehicle was hooked up to the obdii system, it even shut the diagnostic equipment down as well. The technicians at fallon auto mall realized they did not know how to fix the problem and called a field office technician in denver for advice. He advised the technicians and service manager to check a few different components on the vehicle but, as of today the vehicle is still not drivable and the technicians still do not understand what is happening with the vehicle and even mentioned that the acc module is still not working properly.

19 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

This involves the expensive safety accessory: "forward collision avoidance "on this vehicle, this safety feature is intermittent. As I'm driving on a city street or freeway, the unit suddenly turns off and at the same time, the cruise control turns off. In order to re-engage the systems, the engine must be turned off and re-started. The problems started about 2 months ago. ( oct. -2015) I count on this safety feature. (forward collision avoidance) as an example, the car in front has no brake lights, I have no idea that it is slowing and comes to an abrupt stop. This could result in a collision, whereas the avoidance feature gives plenty of warning in regards to the sudden slowing of the vehicle in front. I wonder how many of these units may have original factory defects, yet have not been reported? thank you.

20 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/20/2015

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 65 mph with the cruise control engaged, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle's speed rapidly increased without warning. The contact lost control of the vehicle, drove into a grass field over a dip in the field which caused the vehicle to roll over and land upside down. While flipped upside down, the engine continued to rev until the vehicle was powered off. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact and two passengers sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. The approximate failure mileage was 177,000.

21 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

As the car gets to about 35-40mph it begins to accelerate causing me to have to tap several times the brake to disengage. The cars accelerator will also many times, stick as if its in cruise control, but the cruise control is off. This week I googled how to fix and saw many complaints, recall on almost 500,000 Ford Taurus as well as your pursuit to resolve. I would need it fixed before something serious occurs. Thank you gor uour consideration.

22 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/03/2015

While I was driving my vehicle accelerated to almost 50 mph without me touching the gas pedal in at all. When I tried to break, my breaks did work but not completely. There have been multiple occasions when my vehicle has lost all power and completely shut off, every time being at an extremely busy intersection. My cruise control has been disconnected and the issue still occurs. When I turn my car on now, it goes up to 4,000 rpms by itself in park. Huge safety issue.

23 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

Car accelerated without pushing on the gas pedal. Unable to get the acceleration to stop until the car was shut off. After parking, I found that the cruise control clip had come off the throttle.

24 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/29/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently to 55 mph. The contact applied the brake pedal on multiple occasions; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the cruise control cable became disconnected from the throttle linkage which locked the speedometer at 55 mph. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 196,560.

25 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

When I drive, the gas pedal will get stuck and either stay at the speed without me setting cruise control or it may accelerate on its own. To get it loose, I have to jiggle the gas pedal (which can be very dangerous especially while driving), this usually stops the problem but I'm concerned that someday it will stop working and I won't be able to control this anymore. If I put the car in park or neutral it increases the rpm from 1 to 3 or 4. Also if the rpm are increased while in park it makes it super hard to shift to drive and is stressful to my transmission.

26 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

I was accelerating after being stopped at a red light and noticed the car kept accelerating after taking my foot off the pedal. I applied the brake and it continued to accelerate after removing the brake. I put the vehicle in neutral and it went up to 3000rpm. I put it back in drive and the car corrected once drive was re-engaged. The cruise control in the car will not turn on and if it does it will not set an acceleration. The problem was noted earlier in the year but pushed off as a fluke. Then after doing research I see that most Taurus' have this same problem. When I contacted Ford they will not fix the problem because there is no recall. This is a huge safety concern and should be issued a recall. Perhaps if there is an accident there will be more investigation into the problem.

27 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

My 2003 Ford Taurus accelerates by itself to 35-45 mph without having to touch the accelerator (note: the car will also accelerate uphill without having to press the accelerator. Also, the cruise control light works, but the cruise control itself is not engaging.

28 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/31/2014

Driving the car it starting reving and rpms increasing. Parked turned car off waited a few minutes started car up and engine was racing hard. Pulled out of parking space went to the stop light could barely keep the car stopped with my foot pressed vary hard to keep the car from jolting into uncoming traffic. Light turned, took my foot off the brake the car raced from a stopped position to 56 miles and hour with a 2 1/2 block distance and I never put my foot on the gas. . Had to ride 15 miles into town to the car repair shop riding the brake the whole time to keep the car under a 30 mph speed. Again numerous report of the clip coming off on the cruise control causing car to race. Reaplace the clip back on because it is not broke and in 2-3 days the clip comes off again. I can not afford to have this car jolt me or my family into an uncoming train or traffic and kill us because Ford does not want to fix the problem cause t may be to costly.

29 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerate independently without any warnings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the cruise control disconnected and became lodge on the throttle. As a result, the cruise control needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 148,000 and the current mileage was 148,035.

30 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

Driving down long road, got up to 40 mph, car stayed on that speed as if it was in cruise control mode. I had the cruise control off. I even slowed down to 30, car stayed on thirty. Had foot off the gas pedal. It surges forward. I read horror stories of other year Taurus' doing same thing, causing crashes. My 16 yr old daughter drives this car. Every other car around this years date was recalled, but not the 2003. I changed my hoses, so it's not that. The car is literally staying in cruise control mode even when it's off. When I turn my steering wheel slightly to the right, I can hear a ticking sound once or twice, not sure what that is, it's scary though. Before something bad happens I want a recall for this year of Taurus regarding the cruise control being engaged.

31 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

The car suddenly began to accelerate and was difficult to stop. I put it in neutral after I got to a place where I could park. The engine accelerated to 3000 rpm and I turned off the ignition. I attempted to start the car again and engine again rose to 3000 rpm. I checked to see that the accelerator was not stuck to the floorboard. Then started the engine again. Again it reved to over 3000 rpm so I pressed the gas pedal and then the idle returned to normal. Once I got on the freeway to return home the cruise control would not engage. I called the Ford dealership and they stated they were not aware of any recalls on 2006 Ford Taurus for acceleration problems.

32 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

I have had at least 9 of the following incidents; I first noticed cruise control stopped working approximately in March, after that intermittently while driving at different speeds my gas petal would feel like it was stuck down, rpm's went up to 4000-6000, car sped up and one time the breaks did fail until I threw car into park at 60 mph. Usually I have to step on gas a few times to fix it, took it to mechanic and he could not find the problem. It is happening in a greater frequency now. It is getting extremely dangerous for me to keep driving the car. I noticed when that happens my dashboard goes from 23. 7 miles per gallon to at one point it said 7, then increased to 34 mpg. When it dropped down to 7 mpg my car kept stalling and would start and stall until I let it sit over night.

33 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/12/2014

We took a trip on 04/01/2014 and on the return home. The cruise control failed to work. At that point, it was not a big concern until yesterday when we were at a light behind a Ford f-150 pickup truck. Car accelerated to about 4000 rpm. My foot was already on the brake. I had to push the brake to the floor to keep from hitting the truck in front of me. W hen we got thru the intersection, I was able get the rpms down by hit the gas petal a couple time. I started to check online to see if this was a problem, I learn that my Ford Taurus was under investigation for cruise control/ accelerator issues. Has Ford address this issue before someone gets injuried or killed. I will not let my family in the car until the problem is fixed.

34 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

Driving on interstate and the cruise control started speeding up would not stop and when brakes applied it continued to rev the engine. I stopped the auto and it was still racing and squealing tires. Turned vehicle off then sat for awhile turned engine on and it took off again with engine racing and tires squealing as I sat in parking lot with foot on break. Finally after sitting for some time the cruise no stopped working all together and I am able to drive car but cruise no longer works and the gas pedal sticks at times now and I have to double tap to release.

35 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

The car takes off without pressing on the gas. Rpm goes up and car continues to accelerate despite pressing on the brakes. Took car to a mechanic and had the idle valve replaced. 2 weeks later the problem continued to persist and mechanic told me the cruise control was detached but suspects it is a problem with the model of car and needed to be recalled. The speeding of the car occurs sporadically, so driving on the road I am not able to predict when it will happen. This is a malfunction that needs to be addressed by Ford for the sake of safety.
