36 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

The car jumps when stopped at a light. You have to leave plenty of room between cars or it will jump into a car. Also, we have had to replace the alternator and battery several times. The alternator was 3 times and the battery 5 times. All of the sudden out cruise control went out and after that is when the jumping started. Hard to start and it jumps while idling in park as well as all other gears. Transmission replace 4 years ago.

37 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/24/2014

Every once in a while, the throttle in my 2004 Ford Taurus ses will stick and I have to tap the gas a little bit to make it unstick, and also when I turn on cruise control, on the dash it lights up, but cruise control doesn't engage.

38 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

On 1/18/2014: I was traveling approximately 45 mph, when all the sudden my 2005 Ford Taurus suddenly started accelerating. I did not have my foot on the gas pedal. When I started to used the brakes it felt like the car was pushing against the brakes. The brakes held and I was able to stop the car. I put the car into park and when I did this the rpm's went to 60000. I quickly turned off the car because I was afraid that I would blow the motor, I let the car sit there for a few minutes. I re-started the motor and the motor was reeving at a high rate and when I put the car in drive it slammed into drive and the car took off. I feel that something is terribly wrong. There are no "check engine" lights on. It feels like the cruise control is engaged, but I continuously pushed the "off" button on cruise control and no light displayed that the cruise control was engaged. I feel this is a defect in the making of this automobile and I'm very concerned that I could have been the cause of a terrible accident. I am forced not to use my car until I can get a mechanic to look it over a diagnosis the situation. I had my 93 year old grandmother traveling with me on this day and I am fortunate that I was not in a serious accident. I am reporting this situation because, I wonder if other 2005 Ford Taurus have had the same issues & reported & maybe have even not been as luck as I, and have been in serious accidence due to this issue that should be re-called by Ford. Thank you.

39 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the cruise control caused the vehicle to accelerate and decelerate independently. The vehicle was not inspected and was not diagnosed. The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86000.

40 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

While driving with my some in the car on an interstate, I tried to set my cruise control. The cruise would register that it was set but it would not hold the speed that was set. After a little while my car accelerated on its own. After trying to apply the brakes, which just sounded like it was grinding the brakes because it didn't want to idle down. Put the car in neutral, the rpms revved over 4000 and the same when I switched to drive. I shut the car off and upon turning the car back on the rpms went over 4000 rpm again. I talked to Ford and they said since there was no recall that there was lot bing they could do for me. I think that something needs to be done.

41 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

After disengaging the cruise control by tapping the brake (the cruise control indication turned off), the vehicle continued to stay at the previously set speed. I then turned off the cruise control switch, which had no effect. I immediately started applying heavy braking until the vehicle slowed down to about 5 miles an hour and put the automatic transmission into park and turned off the engine ignition. All the while the car was attempting to accelerate back up to 55 mph (the previously set cruise control speed). This happened 2 more times and I was able to put the car in neutral and turn the car off and back on and that temporarily fixed the issue. I also later learned to briefly press and release the pedal to the floor which worked every time.

42 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

Vehicle accelerating on its own and gets stuck. Unable to stop car, have to slam on brakes and put the car in neutral. Car continues to accelerate and lifting the gas pedal with my foot does not stop the problem. Had iac motor replaced, throttle position sensor, and egr valve replaced but none of that helped the problem. Car seems to be stuck in cruise control or something and I am unable to stop the acceleration.

43 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

Y vehicle experienced unexpected high rpm and uncontrollable high speeds. It was first discovered when accelerating up to 40 mph, and suddenly the speed increased with the rpm going up to 4,000. The gas pedal was untouched and the speed continued to increased. The driver immediately applied the brakes to stop but the rpm remained at 4,000 rpm, while at a stop, the driver changed the drive shaft to neutral, and the vehicle continued to go at 4,000 rpm. This would go on for about 3-4 miles, and suddenly go back to normal mode. Then the symptoms would return again unexpectedly. This behavior has been ongoing since December 5th, and it is worse when the vehicle is on the freeway. The speed control would also become erratic once it hits 60 mph. The driver would change shift to neutral or to d mode just to disrupt the erratic speed behaviors. The symptoms would go away "on its own". In addition, I found that the cruise control is not operational at this time . The cruise control can be turned on but the cruise control is not engaged or is not holding the speed. I have done a thorough check on the engine looking for any damages, any leaks in the intake air pipes, or faulty sensors and found nothing, but from resources, I learned that it may be a faulty cruise control operation. It is now a safety concern, for me as the driver but for my children and my wife.

44 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

I'm driving down the freeway at 60 mph and tap on the brakes to slow down and once I let my foot off the brake, with my foot off the gas pedal, the car continues to accelerate. Tried just about everything. Turning cruise control on and off, putting it in neutral, tapping the brakes, still continued to accelerate and randomly stopped once I applied the brakes for the 5th time. Extremely dangerous not having control of your own vehicle.

45 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

When driving said vehicle it's speed increases on it's own. When you break the engine's rpms race to a very high level. At this point you need to put the vehicle in neutral and/or park and tap the accelarator a few times to bring the rpms to an idle state. I had this problem "repaired" about a year ago at my local Ford dealership but the problem has returned. Also, my cruise control stopped wotking shortly after the "repairs" were made.

46 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I have had issues with my sudden acceleration, sticking accelator pedal since my cruise control stopped functioning. I pull over or place my car into neutral to get the acceleration to stop. I have seen many other complaints and feel a recall is advisable for this issue before injury occurs.

47 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

I was going down a back road at 20 mph. My car accelerated up to 35 by itself. I took my foot off of the pedal at the car kept accelerating. I pressed the brake and the car slowed down but I felt a great deal of power, like the car wanted to keep accelerating. As soon as I took my off the break the accelerated. I had to tap the accelerate pedal all the way down very quickly and it stopped. A few days later my husband and I were driving on the highway and I went to use my cruise control and it would not engage. At the present time the cruise control still does not work and the car is still accelerating on it's own.

48 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

As I was accelerating, and get to around 40 or 45mph, the car would lunge forward and the speed would suddenly increase even if I wasn't pushing the accelerator. Then I would try to slow down the car and it would be jerking and would come to a stop finally, but the rpm would be to over 4,000 or even 5,000. It would do it for a few miles then suddenly go back to running normal. I also noticed the cruise control is not working since the car stated doing this. I took it to a mechanic and all they could find wrong with the car was that the throttle body plates were covered in gunk and they cleaned them, and I needed to replace my idle air intake valve which I had both done. From time to time the car will still accelerate suddenly without warning, and I am afraid I am going to either blow the engine from the high rpm's or run into someone if I can't get the car slowed down in time.

49 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/06/2013

As I was exiting off the interstate,my cruise control failed to shut off. Applying the brake I was barely able to stop my car before rear ending someone, and the rpm was staying around 2000. I then noticed that the gas pedal was sticking and that the cruise control was no longer coming on. Now the cruise control will come on while going down the road on its on and the gas pedal is sticking. This all occurred when the cruise control started acting up. This almost cause a horrible accident.

50 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/04/2013

I was making a pass on the highway one evening on my way home from work and starting out at 45mph I accelerated up to 55mph and completed the pass. The acceleration time as brief but when I took my foot off the pedal the engine kept accelerating and maintained a 2500 - 3500 rpm. Cruise control was not on! being that I've had this happen before when I was in a major city I knew I had to pull over and restart the car, hit the gas pedal a few times and usually it goes away. This time I could not because I was doing 65mph now and quickly approaching +70mph. So I calmly put the breaks on ever so slightly to keep my speed in a reasonable range and started to mess with the cruse control, turning it on and off, coast and accelerate and turning it off again. None of this worked. It wouldn't even accelerate from the cruise controls! but finally buy some luck after I hit the off button on the cruise control in panic, the acceleration pedal popped back up onto my foot where I had it resting. Disaster averted! come to find others who are driving the same vehicle (year and model) in my company experienced this identical issue. One incident actually left the vehicle totaled but thank god our associate was unharmed. I feel that this being a popular car people should be aware of this issue before lives are lost.

51 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

Slowing from highway speed had difficulty slowing, tachometer reading 2400rpm, continued braking slowed the vehicle. At a stop, took car out of gear, engine reved up, tapped accelerator then rpms dropped to 700rpm. Second occurance happened 3 weeks later in local traffic. Speed without touching accelerator about 40mph at 2400rpm, tapping accelerator petal recovered control. No incidences since but cruise control is now non functional (related?).

52 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

Driving my vehicle up an incline near my home and at the top I let off the accelorator. Vehicle continued to accelerate. I pressed the off button on cruise control (in case it was on for some reason) and also pressed the brakes. The car slowed but as soon as I let off the break it sped up again. I was not far from home so I stayed on the break until the turn at my neighborhood. After I turned I had to wait for the gates to open so I let off the brakes a bit but the car would jump forward. I turned in as slowly as I could and before turning into my drive where my son and his friends were playing in the yard I stopped as much as I could and while I had my left foot on the break pulled on the accelorator with my right. There was a change in the engine sound and I slowly pulled into the driveway. This has never occured before. We bought the car in 2008. Is there any sort of fix??.

53 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

When going down the street at any speed, the car can just start going faster on its own, going around corners or anytime going down the road. Its getting very dangerous. Most of the time when you tap on the gas pedal, it will break free and go back to normal but sometimes it just goes faster and faster. Have to pop it in neutral and keep tapping the pedal and hope it goes back to normal. Very dangerous for me or my kids and other drivers on the road. Another thing is that I can turn on the cruise control and the light shows it is on but when I push the set button nothing happens.

54 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/30/2013

On the morning of January 30, 2013; I was driving to work approximately at 8 am and noticed my car became difficult to stop. It appeared to be accelerating when I was not touching the gas and had to apply excessive force on the brake to allow the car to stop. Immediately upon releasing the brake pedal the car would quickly accelerate to 15-20 mph. This continued on and off for my entire 15 mile commute to the office. Stepping heavily on the gas pedal seemed to stop the problem (seemed as if the pedal was stuck down). Placing the car into neutral was the only sure way to stop the acceleration. On January 31, 2013; the same problem occurred again. However, this time it happened at higher speeds. I was driving at 65 mph without having to touch the gas as if the cruise control was set to 65. However, the cruise was off. Again. . . Heavily pressing the gas pedal stopped the acceleration. Again, placing the car into neutral was the only sure way to stop the problem. Both mornings were foggy/rainy and very humid. The problem is intermittent, but I believe Ford needs to immediately correct this issue with recalls as a person who is less comfortable driving or just not very calm could definitely have an accident if they panic.

55 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

Random throttle sticking, cruise control stopped working.

56 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

I bought a Ford Taurus on December 3 got it home and put it in park and it was like the accelerator was stuck. Have had it in shop numerous times. It does this going down the road at times and is unpredictable. It is very hard to apply the brake to stop it and I have to romp on the gas and then hit the brakes. My cruise control in my care does not work and have read that it maybe part of the problem.

57 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/30/2012

I was on the interstate going about 70. I put on the cruise control but it wouldn't engage. I tried several times then gave up. Not 5 minutes later I tried to go slower, about 65, and the car sped up to 70 on its own. I was confused because the cruise control light was not lit, whereas it was lit when it wouldn't work. I pressed the off button many times but it kept trying to accelerate. My friend was trying to make me pull over but I was scared because the engine was racing and it seemed like the brakes were sluggish. I finally stopped on the shoulder & turned off the car. I was freaking scared because I was in the middle of nowhere. When I turned the car back on it immediately began to race, way up over the 3000 rpms. When I put it into drive it lurched forward. We had to get somewhere, so my friend started driving. I was shaking. It unstuck by itself but continued to do it several times. And I never touched the cruise control again. It does it going 30mph, 60mph, whenever it feels like. I don't have money to fix this & this car has only 50,000 miles on it! I'm scared it's going to do it & the brakes fail when I try to slow down.

58 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

Beginning a few months ago (November 2012), my 2006 Ford Taurus has had a couple times when the vehicle will accelerate without pushing on the gas pedal. These few incidents have corresponded with my cruise control stopping to work. I notice them at lower speeds, but I cannot rule out the same issue at higher speeds because braking is harder at these speeds. The last incident was December 31, 2012 at 9:32 pm. The vehicle was traveling at 25 mph. I noticed it was hard to stop and the rpm's were not slowing down when I broke. I then had to pull over to the side of the road and put the vehicle in park. At that moment the rpms increased to 4,000 and I turned the car off. I started the car again in park and it did the same thing. The third restart, it began to increase, but when I pumped the pedal the increase stopped and it returned to normal idle rpm. Upon searching google for this issue, I saw multiple reports on the NHTSA's investigation in March 2012. As a result, I am submitting this claim. The descriptions resulting in this investigation sounded exactly like my issue.

59 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

I was driving my 2001 Ford Taurus onto a freeway and got up to 45 mph and the car continued to accelerate after I lifted my foot off the gas. I attempted to press on the brake as hard as I could and the car was still accelerating. Pressing the brake would not make the car stop. I was not using cruise control. I pulled off to the side of the freeway and put the car in park, the car was still revving up, so I turned the car off. I waited a couple of minutes and started the car again and continued driving and the car exhibited the same conditions as before. I was able to exit the freeway and was about to get to an intersection that had a stop sign. I realized that even after pressing down on the brakes as hard as I could, the car was not going to stop so I proceeded to pull over to the side again and quickly put the car in park and turn the car off. I left the car there and walked to the nearest gas station and towed the car home. I did not feel safe driving anymore and it is a miracle that I did not cause an accident.

60 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Driving around 35mph vehicle started to accelerate on its own. Hit brake but rpm's still climbed. Hit brake again and fixed issue. Also cruise control stopped working around the same time. Has happened 3 times since first incident. Have to smash accelerator repeatedly to fix issue. Very scary feeling and will not let wife drive kids around in this vehicle. After reading the 100's of complaints on internet describing this exact same issue cannot believe Ford has not issued a recall on this problem yet. This is literally an accident waiting to happen. Have owned car since 2007 and this is the first major issue we have had with this vehicle.

61 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/25/2012

Last fall I was driving on the interstate about 45 miles. When I reached the city I was visiting I got off interstate and came to red light. Vehicle engine started revving. I had to keep foot on brake to prevent rearending car in front of me. My car continued to do this while in traffic. I got home ok and didn't have a problem again until I drove it on the interstate again. The problem seemed to stop for a month or two until my husband was driving in December 2012 and he tried to use the cruise control and it would not work. When we got to the city off the interstate the car began the acceleration again while in bumper to bumper traffic. It happened once again to me two weeks ago and last week the check engine light has come on. The car seems to drive ok until we drive it at interstate speeds for a period of time and then slow down. I am afraid this is going to cause an accident.

62 Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

While driving the vehicle at highway speeds, it was noted that when I set the cruise control at 70mph, the stated speed limit, the digital numerical readout read exactly 70mph. The speedometer although reads consistently 3-4mph above the cruise control setting. This has occurred since I took delivery of the vehicle as brand new from the dealer and occurs regardless of speed setting, I. E. : same issue if cruise is set at 45mph, 55mph, 65mph, etc. After becoming concerned that the vehicle may in fact be traveling faster than the digital cruise control setting was stating, I took the vehicle back to dealer. They were unable fix the issue with exact explanation on my repair order reading: "client states when cruise set the speedometer always 3-4 miles higher. Nwp contact Ford. Advised to drive 2013 and 2014 models to verify concern. Both models same symptom. All ok at this time. ".

63 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/07/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck while it was depressed causing the vehicle to suddenly accelerate and the cruise control to fail. The failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 67,000 and the current mileage was 68,000. Pmb.

64 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

Noticed 2 days prior that the cruise control no longer worked. Then, the car suddenly hit about 4,000 rpm without my foot on the gas pedal while driving 45 mph. After I braked and pull off the road it was still running high rpm without touching the gas. After I tried to start it again it went straight to 2500 rpm and stayed there, while in park and foot on the brake (not the gas). Had to have it towed. Very scary, very dangerous. Ford need to pay for this/recall it.

65 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/21/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while traveling 55 mph the cruise control switch was engaged and when the brakes were depressed the vehicle accelerated un-expectantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 122,780 and the current mileage was 122,800.

66 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/23/2012

I was driving home from work one day and noticed the car wasn't running right, I could tell there was something wrong. I noticed when I would use my brake the car acted like it didn't want to slow down or stop and once I left off the brake the car accelerated by itself so I began to check the cruise control buttons to make sure they were off but then realized my husband tried to use the cruise control a few months earlier and couldn't get it to work. So I shifted into neutral and the engine went up past 4000 rpm's so I quickly shifted back into drive. Once I finally got it home and put it in park the engine went up past 4000 rpm's again so I quickly shut off the engine. My husband examined the engine and assumed the problem was an idling sensor so we purchased one at a local auto parts store. He changed the part but this did not fix the problem so we have now parked the car until we can find out what's wrong with it.

67 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/26/2012

I have a 2004 Ford Taurus with almost 70,000 miles on it, and now it has a stuck throttle. On 6/29/2012 I noticed that my cruise control was not working. I began driving the vehicle again on July 18 and starting on July 26 I noticed on the highway that it was accelerating itself without pressing down on the accelerator pedal. Upon turning the car on to drive home from work, the problem was instantly apparent again. The engine will rev itself up to 3000+rpm while in park, and I had to completely press down the brakes to get it to slow down at stop lights and then would put it in park (as a safety precaution). When the light would turn green shifting into drive would make the car jump instantly. Reading of the investigation of the Ford 2005 Taurus and the symptoms that other drivers have had, I am 100% convinced that I am experiencing the same issue. I plan on towing the car to a Ford dealership soon for repair.

68 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

The failure and current mileages were 84,000. Updated 08/28/lj.

69 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/15/2012

While returning to lubbock, TX from carrollton, TX with the cruise control on the engine began racing but the car slowed down. Applied brake to turn off cruise control and coasted off the highway.
