While traveling between 55-60 mph and hitting the brakes, the front end and steering wheel shake very badly. Braking is very dangerous. Resurfacing discs is not the answer. The rotors must be replaced. Ford motor company, not the consumer, should pay for this as this is a vehicle defect. I feel unsafe driving this vehicle at this time.

My new 2001 Ford Taurus has had an annoying intermittent shimmy at highway speeds, the steering wheel wobbles at speeds under 45mph and the steering wheel vibrates during braking. The car's wheels have been rebalanced twice and realigned once with no success between two dealerships. Ford ann harbor michigan has been notified that the car is still not fixed.
Warped brake rotors, severe vibration when braking, especially down hill, rotors and pads replaced, problem reoccurred.
The brake caliper leaked and lost brake fluid. I refilled and never lost braking. Had caliper replaced. This was not discovered during routine replacement of rear brake pads.

Stopping distance has changed. There are 4 wheel disc brakes only on front, they should be on the rear also. Please provide any further information.
Vehicle vibrates when applying brakes. Vehicle had brakes pads and rotors replaced. Dealership was aware of the problem.
When applying brakes the steering wheel vibrates.
When driving above 40 miles and needing to stop the steering wheel shakes, above 60 you need two hands to control the steering wheel. Bought the car in the first time and the rotors were resurfaced but within 2 months I had to return for the same problem and found out the rotors and pads were scrape. The rotors had warped. Of course I had to pay for all of this because I was told that it was a wearable item, what I could not understand was I was still under my 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. Ford has been contacted in regards to this matter but I have not heard from them as of yet. I have owned Ford vehicles for over 15 years and have not had this problem at least for a car thats a little over a year old. It has gotten to the point that I am neverous to get in the car wondering what will happen next. Which as I am talking the car is going in again because when driving above 65 mph the car vibants and I was told I might have a bad tire with a belt shift, they are keeping it for a couple days to test it!!!!!.
Brakes squeak loudly. Dealership states that this is normal.
First of all your one-size-fits all approach with form-hell sucks!!! now for the Ford problem. The brake rotors warp in 10k to 18 k miles of driving!!! Ford's engineering sucks!!! Ford will not allow the consumer to speak to the factory rep. Ford thinks rotors are a maintenance item. Ford is wrong!!! Ford undersized the brake system. They did not slect the proper material for the brake pad material and for the rotors!!! the rotors should have been made of titainum to prevent warping. My car did not crash buy I could not trust the brakes. I had to leave lots of room between me and the car ahead. The warped rotors caused the steering wheel to jump and twist during braking. This made the car unsafe. I never heard the warning sound that tells you that your brake pads had gotten to end of life. The rotors always warped before the brake pads wore out!!! I don't own this car any longer. I traded it in on a Honda.
Shimmy in steering column during braking indicated that the braking system needed repair. Pads replaced and rotors turned at 55000. Steering column would "groan" intermittently when turned to right and then returned to center. Dealer diagnosed problem as rack and pinion assembly needing replacement. Would not performa under warranty. Car only had 58,000 miles (way too soon!).
Car has had shake in steering wheel since the test drive; was told that it was due to car sitting on the lot and that turning the rotors would fix the problem. The shake returned shortly after purchase and has continued to be a problem since. It starts as a sublte vibration in the steering wheel and becomes a violent shake as the problem progressively gets worse. The rotors have been turned, replaced 2x, drums replaced, wheel cylinders replaced. We asked them the last time to also check proportioning valve, they said they would but didn't. It has had a total of 4 repairs for this problem, including them turning t he rotors before purchase. We sent a certified letter to Ford just before the last repair. They replied with the statement that a regional office or the service manager from the dealership would contact us, and if not we were to contact the dealership. No one contacted us, and we've been in contact with the dealership for 10months with no success. The salesperson has told us she'll speak to her general manager. The certified letter was recieved by Ford on 6/16/00, the last repair was done on 6/24/00, and the shake returned on 7/7/00. We have also had a big problem with them getting parts to do repairs, with it taking weeks. Also were told in the winter to wait until spring for t he repair, that the problem might just be caused by sand and salt, which it wasn't.
Steering wheel shakes when brakes are applied. (dot number: 442-369 tiresize: p205/65/15).
When brakes applied at highway speed, steering wheel shakes violently.
This vehicle has a reccurring problem with the front brakes. The dealer replaced the front brake pads and rotors 6 times under warranty and I have replaced them 6 more times since the warranty ended. The problem has not been fixed. I have contacted the dealer numerous times. They simply say "it needs a brake job" for $300. 00 when that is obviously not the problem. The brakes vibrate excessively when slowing down from almost any speed and emergency braking is compromised resulting in extremly long distances to come to a stop.
I have had to replace the brake rotors twice on this vehicle since purchased new. Dealer cut rotors upon initial complaint and problem returned within 3000 miles. Dealer offered to replace rotors at my cost informing me they were not covered under warranty. Rotors were again replaced at 60,000 miles and problem has again returned only 2,000 miles later. This appears to me to be a design failure as I have spoken to many people who have experienced this very same problem.

The front rotors on this car have been turned twice (8/98 & 6/9/99) and need to be turned or replaced again (9/2000). The rear rotors were turned on 2/28/2000. I feel that having rotors turned once a year is unacceptable and have never had to have brake work done that often on any other vehicle that I have owned. I am concerned that this is indicative of a safety issue regarding the brakes. Dealership personnel have been less than helpful regarding my concerns.
While driving at highway speed applied brakes and without warning vehicle will vibrate violently. Dealer has been notified; however had not remedied the problem.
When decelerating from high speed vehicle shimmers. Consumer states the problem may be with the front disc brakes, but has not had the vehicle checked by the dealer.

Brakes keep warping. Materials that are used for brake pads cause rotors to overheat & become warped. Every time brakes were applied vehicle would shimmy. Taken vehicle to dealership 4 times & mechanic can solve the problem.
The cruse dosent hold when going down hill if sat a 60 , it will increase to 75 or more . Also there is a grinding noise that is coming from the front of car the faster and in incline it gets very very loud. And the steering wheel vibrates a lot. Also Ford has grinded down the hubs three times since I bought the car and the brakes are going bad again.
Brakes are grinding, and the vehicle slides when braking in the rain.

A grinding sound was heard from the rear of the car, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who found that the rear disc brakes along with the rotors needed to be replaced, this repair was not covered under warranty and the consumer feels that it should be.
When driving 35 mph or above and lightly applying brakes steering wheel will shake to left and to right. Consumer repaced tires, but did not solve defect.
