The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for serviced at an independent mechanic, while in serviced with the contact inside the vehicle, the technician asked the contact was to shift the gear into reversed to check the rear brake lights. The contact stated that when she shifted into reversed, the vehicle accelerated in reversed, the contact depressed the brake pedal but the brake failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle went through the business front glass door and came to a stop on a mayor street. The contact did not sustained injuries. A police report was filed. Reported earlier today under confirmation #11252283 about trying to move the gearshift from park into drive so car can be driven. Now gearshift still not working and remaining in park but also the brake lights and headlights refuse to shut off. The battery had to be disconnected so the brake lights wouldn't drain the battery dead. Now the mechanic is saying there's a recall on the brake stoplight switch on this 2004 Ford Taurus.

Was informed brake lights were not working, then when I stopped the vehicle and put it in park and restated could not get out of park so installed a new brake switch which worked for less then an hour. Thinking it could be a fuse checked the manual list of fuses and could not find a listing for the fuse that went to the brake switch so checked fuses one by one to see if they were bad all okay. So I assume the new switch was bad and replaced it with another and they one did not work either. I can now get out of park to drive the vehicle but I have no brake lights which is not safe at all. I was just told that Ford had a recall on this issue some yeas back but I never received one. I feel that something more is going on here.

Brake switch, no recall for 2004 model, but recall for 2001. My 2004 Taurus is doing the exact same thing as the 2001 brake switch, which causes the inability to move your car out of park and your brake lights do not work.

The column shift does not move out of park. The problem has been traced to a faulty brake light switch. While there is a recall - 04v106000 - for this issue, it only goes up to the 2003 model year. My vehicle is a 2004 and has the same problem.

My vehicle with [xxx]. I can not shift my car from park, or if I press on the brake a couple of times, and get the brake light to come on, they say on. Even when foot is not on brake. My vehicle in not apart of a recall, it was manufactured in an atlanta plant. I am being out of money and time with repairs that I have had done, and its not solving the issue. When driving the car at a low rate of speed a few miles from my neighborhood, I noticed that the brake light indicator came on. I slowed down to look around the car but could not find anything. I drove the car home and just as I was driving into my neighborhood, the brakes stopped working. Very luckily, I did not get into an accident. It turns out that the metal rear brake lines running underneath the driver's side front door were completely corroded and one of the lines had burst (the one affecting the diagonal brake circuit for the front driver side and rear passenger side). This came without warning, and I could have easily been stranded (or killed) on a busy highway out of control. This is a safety issue justifying a recall. Amazingly, the other underside components of the vehicle are in much better shape than the brake lines. Why Ford would fail to properly coat or protect a critical component like the rear brake lines so that they would not corrode is an inexcusable safety hazard. I have read of this rear brake line issue elsewhere being extremely common for this vehicle, so this is not a "one off" event. Sooner or later, someone will get into a serious accident or be killed!.

Started to smell burned wires in car. Look under dash and smoke and wires where burned. Brake lights dont work. Reading online and other issue with this car and people where having same issue. When I called dealer they said theres nothing they can do because they are no more recalls on that. But I think this is a safety issue and can cause great danger.

The park lamp switch seems to be failing and intermittently will stop working causing the brake lights to fail and the vehicle to not switch out of park. My battery discharge light came on then the abs light, the brake light and others. I have taken it to a repair shop and neither he nor I can find the battery drain. The computer doesn't show anything. At times if its raining the wipers go as does the heat or air blower. I have also noticed the transmission not shifting correctly. My main concern is the engine stopping or the brakes not working and I have had my wipers not work in a rain storm . Any advice?.

Brake light switch failed, at first the car wouldn't go out of park, after several tries it finally did. At that point it was noticed that the brake lights wouldn't turn off. I found an old recall that appeared to match the vehicle (04s12) but the Ford dealer stated my car was not part of that recall and they would not state whether the car had already had it done or not.

Brake pedal goes all the way to floor with no stopping the car,then they work fine, brake fluid is full no brake light on, another incident 9/18/12. Not a good feeling when this happens.

Total brake failure: having worked on cars for 40+ years and owned many vehicles over the years, it was a surprise to suffer total brake failure without ever having the brake light indicate a failure. For as long as I can remember, all my vehicles had a primary and secondary brake circuit with a pressure differential switch that would latch and light the brake warning light. On several occasions a partial brake failure was caught by the warning light. Master cylinder replacement was performed quickly as driving with one circuit is dangerous. The 1999 Ford Taurus has no brake pressure differential switch, no kidding! if one does not make panic stops as a regular part of driving, it is easier than one would think to have a partial failure go undetected (despite that there must have been extra pedal travel). When the second circuit fails the result is total brake failure without warning. In my opinion, this is criminal negligence, the same type of thinking as the Ford pinto fuel tank. Forget the cup holder, spend the money on the safety switch!!! I shudder to think of people seriously injured due to this missing switch.

While attempting to shift the vehicle out of park, the gear shifter will not work; specifically the vehicle stays "locked" in the park setting. This has occurred on several occasions and requires me to turn the vehicle off or attempt to "re-set" the brake by applying the brake several times. Additionally, at times the brake lights remain lit after the vehicle has been placed in part and turned off with the driver locking the vehicle after exiting the vehicle. The brake lights remaining lit has caused the battery to completely discharge. To offset this I've had to remove the fuse for the rear brake lights to prevent the battery from discharging. I did have an independent mechanic examine the issue and the mechanic noted the vehicle recall for a 2003 Ford Taurus for this fault. When I contacted Ford I was informed that my vehicle was not included in a lot identified as impacted by the vehicle recall. Specifically the VIN from my 2003 Ford Taurus was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 04v106000 (exterior lighting). This fault first occurred when I was stationed in japan (2004 - 2007) sometime in may of 2004 when the battery discharged to the point that I had to replace the battery; I couldn't jump start the vehicle with the original battery still in the vehicle. The approximate mileage of the vehicle at that time was 3,000 miles. As of today (August 10, 2017) the mileage on the 2003 Ford Taurus has reached 104,000. Request NHTSA review the records for possible inclusion of the lot for my vehicle for inclusion in this recall. Additionally, wish NHTSA to consider including the lot of my vehicle for inclusion in recall 03v087000 regarding the windshield on my vehicle. I have replaced the cabin air filter and the brake components since purchasing the vehicle, so the recalls addressing those issues are not applicable due to regular maintenance activity.

My Ford Taurus ant-lock brake system light under the dash board while driving alternately flashes on and off sometimes while I am braking. While braking sometimes the anti-lock brakes doesn't work.

Brakes do not work properly, consumer feels like they are bouncing. Engine check light and abs brake light remain on when vehicle is in use.

After purchasing heard grinding and shaking in steering column when brakes are applied. Took to dealer, and they replaced front rotors and pads in may and in September. Consumer had same problem, brakes were failing, and it was hard to stop vehicle. In October, brakes and rotors were replaced again. On October 3rd brake light was coming on so dealer replaced master brake cylinder.

While driving the brake light came on, but the brakes were still workng. Shortly after the consumer tried to apply the brakes ,and the pedal went all the way to the floor. Please provide any futher information.

Driving at 55 mph I applied the brakes lightly and the car started to accelerate, I stepped on the brake pedal but it would not slow the car at all and it was hard to steer , the steering wheel seemed to try to pull to either side, back and forth but I kept it going as straight as I could,then the abruptly pivoted 180 degrees about the left front wheel and the car slid sideways accross the right lane and hit the guardrail with the left front corner and left side of the car.

Abs brake light keeps coming on due to computer sensor failure, need replacing.
