My 2103 Ford Taurus lost the power steering while my wife was driving yesterday on a county road while attempting to make a turn. Luckily she was able to fight the steering by muscling it to get the car under control and off the road. Two notices now appear on the dash. 1. Power steering assist fault and 2. Service advance track. I have been told that many Ford vehicles including many but not all 2013 Ford Taurus have been recalled and repaired under warranty for this known safety condition, however the local Ford dealer tells me that my VIN number is not covered by this recall. I feel that since this is a verified known problem and a recall notice for this problem exists that all 2013 Ford Taurus with this known critical safety issue should also be included with the recall. I think that the recall # is 15s18.

Was pulling up to a stoplight in town, the in dash lit up with "electric steering assist fail" and my steering wheel stiffened up as if I lost power steering, I stopped, cycled the key and the power steering returned. There was no prior warning or in dash lights to this incident. A week went by with no incident or sign of trouble. Was reversing out of a parking spot 7 days later and the same problem occurred. I cycled the key again, and the problem went away. I just left the Ford service center and and they pulled the code c200d:49. Since the latest incident, there has been no problem. I declined the repairs as they were $2200 and I know Ford has recalled previous years of my vehicle for the same exact problem.

The 2013 Taurus has right at 60,000 miles on it and is maintained regularly at the local dealership. I've never been notified of this recall for the steering epas system failing, but it happened last week. Without notice or warning, as we backed out of the garage, the vehicle lost power steering capability and turning it off and restarting did not fix the issue. As I pulled back in the stability control warning light came on indicating failure of that system as well.
This car has a steering recall on it. The recall was fixed and closed out three years ago. The same issue is coming up and it is saying faulty steering on the screen and I lose power steering. I spoke to the dealership and she said in the seven years she has been there she has not seen an issue like this happen again on a vehicle but when I googled about it I saw tons of complaints about people getting the steering recall fixed in their Ford and then the same issue popping up again and the customer forced to pay the money for it. If my steering goes out I could be in a serious accident esp since I do a lot of highway driving and children in my car.

While driving, the steering wheel becomes extremely difficult to turn. I lose power steering and have only manual steering. It doesn't matter what type of street or conditions are, this issue occurs no matter what and continues to occur. No system checks have come up on the vehicle.
I just pulled out of a parking space traveling 5 mph making a sharp turn, suddenly lost all power steering and driver assist failure requires maintenance warning light came on followed by traction control needs servicing. Now it is very difficult to drive at any speed as the vehicle defaulted to manual steering. Lucky I wasn't at high speed. 61000 miles at time of incident.
I was driving to burlington MA on August 29, 2019 and, while making a right turn to enter onto rte 3 northbound, I lost all my power steering. At the moment of failure, the steering wheel snapped abruptly to the left almost causing me to hit the guard rail. Fortunately, I was able to wrestle/turn the steering wheel to the right and avoid an accident. I had no power steering all the way home. When I wrestled the car into my driveway at home, I shut it off, waited a minute and restarted the car. The dash idiot light was off and the power steering was working. I have not used and don't plan on using the car until this problem is fixed. I made an appointment to have this problem diagnosed and repaired on September 9, 2019. I believe the cause of the catastrophic failure is related to the sensors on the steering wheel column that communicate with the computer which controls the electric rack and pinion system.

Vehicle has lost power steering. Low speeds it is nearly impossible to turn left or right. At highway speeds steering wheel feels locked up. Taken to dealership (williams Ford Lincoln service dept - 205 south main street athens, PA 18810) twice. First time they did a cpu update - said they could not diagnose until that was complete - were 99% sure it would fix the problem. Made it worse - back in the shop now waiting to hear how to proceed.

As I was driving into work today, I had lost my power steering on my 2013 Ford Taurus making it hard to control the vehicle when turning. I had done some research and had seen that there had been a recall report back in 2015 (recall notice 15s18) pertaining to the steering modual failing. Unfortunately my 2013 Ford Taurus is not covered under this recall per Ford motor company.
Vehicles loses power steering and becomes very difficult to steer. This occurs at all times but steering is severely hampered at slower speeds.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Taurus. While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle lost power steering ability. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the electrical power assist system failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering); however, the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
While driving 75 mph on an interstate, I lost the power steering and was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road, a red warning message to service power steering now came on, at the same time turn signal would not work and traction control warning light came. Since it was the weekend and I was driving home for christmas I still drove the car home. I now have the car at dealership, and being told no recall on this car. But there is a recall on others for same issue. I don't have the cost yet but tried to call Ford customer service and they are close for the holiday. Wait to see whats next. Miliage on the car was 60,070.
02/09/2016. I was stationary at a stop light. I lost all electrical power. I lost all power steering functions. The dashboard message said to put the transmission in park. These instructions would have immediately damaged the transmission. You can restart the push button start in neutral only by using the brake pedal first. Had I been in any type of traffic, a rear end collision could have occurred. The car was inspected at a Ford dealer today ( 02/11/2016). The remedy was to change a rfa module related to the key fobs. The theory is this : no key recognition means the computer is telling the car to shut down. The Ford dealer can't explain while the problem is intermittent : ( I drive with the same key fobs at all times). This is probably not the solution. This is the second report filed on the same vehicle. The date of last report was 07/31/2011. Nhtsa id number 10416408. The solution last time was replacement of the throttle body assembly. It is pretty obvious the solutions do not match. So basically, Ford has no answer.
When trying to make a ninety degree turn right or left into a parking space or pulling out while making a turn, I lose power steering and only have manual steering. I almost hit a car or the corner of the road/building as using all my strength, I cannot make a sharp turn. I have to back up and make wide turns. I am not driving this car much as afraid I will lose steering at a higher speed. It has become very difficult to pull into a parking lot to park at slow speeds as I completely lose the power assisted power steering and I have trouble steering in manual mode--can barely turn the wheel using all my strength at 1 mile per hour. I learned that Ford has recalled thousands of cars for this recently and online blogs show there have been complaints about the power steering for this model.

While driving approximately 35 miles an hour I lost my power steering. My vehicle steers very hard and is extremely hard while trying to park car. Right turns are harder than left turns. The vehicle is hard to maneuver around sharp turns and corners. Mechanic diagnosed it as a bad rack and pinion (steering gear) and is a safety hazard concern.
I was backing out of a parking space when I lost all power steering. Turning the wheel made a grinding noise and on the drive to the mechanic's garage some power came back, but it was much easier to turn left than right. My mechanic reported that he found a TSB from Ford on this issue detailing the exact problem I had and how to fix it (replace rack and pinion unit, replace steering pump, power steering fluid exchange - cost approx. $1600) Ford is aware of this problem. This is a safety issue. These vehicles should be investigated.
1999 Ford Taurus lost power steering, pump and rack needed to be replaced. The car had 36,264 miles, warrenty was up at 36,000. We thought this was a safety issue, contacted Ford and they were not overly concerned. We also thought they should reimburse some of the $1400 cost to replace the parts.
