1 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2014 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

My 2014 Taurus limited started making a popping noise when turning, I had the cv joint, tie rods, and struts replaced. The car hasn't been driven over 50 miles since repairs were done. . It has not been driven since. I backed down my driveway then the steering is making a terrible noise and looses control during mid turn. This is after I have replace the cv joints, tie rods and the struts. Now the dealership is telling me I need to replace the rack and pinion. A cost $1700 at 139,000 miles. This is very dangerous and is a well know issues with Ford. Why hasn't a recall be announced. This has made a loyal Ford owner decide this will be my last Ford.

3 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

Since my 2007 Ford Taurus hit the 100k mile mark, everything started failing. First it was a simple cam sencor, then radiator (x2) throttle body, (x4 each winter for 4 years in a row would just fail. Ended up replacing with an after market brand. Havn`t had a problem since) now recently, with in the last 6 months, all suspencian (struts, sway links, ball joints) all failed. Replaced rears once, fronts are still a problem on secend new pair. Going on third pair just with in 2 months of each replacment, the struts just fail. Tried several brand. Kyb, and gabriel. All failed after only 2 to 3 months of replacing. Plus tie rods, and ends are bad. Already stuck in a good $3000 just to keep this car drivable. Wondering if it`s even worth fixing anymore at this point. Mechanics can`t explain why all of the sudden, the car`s eating struts in such short time. Nothing appears to be damaged under body. And I purposely avoid pot hole ridden side roads, and rail road crossings when I can. So it`s not like I`m being rough on the car. Never had so many problems with my 2001 Ford Taurus. Should have just kept it. :(.

The front driver side tire was turned left and the front passenger side tire was straight when the vehicle came to a halt. The conclusion was a broken tie rod. The vehicle remained upright as it careened down the hill. The crash resulted in minor injuries to the driver. The vehicle was totaled.

7 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/16/2006

Strange sound from front right tire in terms of loud squeaking when going over bumps and rolling road. Took car to dealer. It was found to have a broken tie rod at the front right end. However they also found the right rear coil spring was broken. The broken spring had cut a deep groove into the inner sidewall of the tire. I had the broken spring and tie rod replaced by the dealer under the terms of my extended warranty but they were not obligated to pay for the tire. I paid for a new tire. On the way home a loud hammering sound now came from the right rear tire area when riding over bumps. Took car back to dealer and he found that the right rear strut was ruined due to the broken coil spring and replaced it. The dealer said the left rear spring was good and did not need to be replaced. My main concern is not that I was not covered for cost of the replacement tire but rather that this broken spring be allowed, by design to ruin a tire that can result in an accident. A new spring can still break and puncture the tire. I now have to spend my own money as soon as my warranty runs out (in a few weeks) to replace the coil spring on the left rear side. If these things were not designed right or made right, we should at least be told to change them after a certain number of miles rather than wait for a failure to occur and risk a tire blowout.

12 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/16/2002

Shortly after purchasing my Taurus I noticed a slight vibration when braking. It was very minor and I did not worry about it - thinking it was a knot on a tire. It got steadily worse and when I had a mechanic look at it he told me I needed new tie rod ends. The front tires had both worn to the steel belts. I replaced both the tie rod ends and the tires. Now I am still feeling the shudder when I brake and last week I started noticeing the steering was getting difficult and humming as I turned. I took the car to the mechanic today and he said the rack and pinion was leaking and needed to be replaced. He suggested your website and I have found numerous other people with the same problem. Ford needs to do something about this, it seems to be getting out of hand. I hope you can pressure them into standing behind their product and do what is fair.

13 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/17/2000

This is the third time in less than four months I have had to have the car into the shop for the same problem. The first time the car stalled as I was accelerating through an intersection after being stopped at a red light. The car would not restart and I had to be towed after owning the car for 17 days. The second and third time the car stalled it was while going 20-30 mph after having idled in heavy traffic. Both times the car restarted. Each time before it stalled the engine coughed and idled roughly, the rpm needle bounced wildly and then the car died including power steering and brakes. The first time the dealer replaced the fuel pressure sensors and said that would take care of the problem. Three weeks later it stalled for the second time. The dealer I took it to that time said they couldn't find anything wrong with it and that I would just have to wait for it to happen again. This last time they said they would probably have to replace the fuel pump but that it could take up to 2 weeks since Ford is having problems delivering the parts. I find this unacceptable since there are already a number of identical complaints in your data base including from fleet services who have had multiple cars fail. The first dealer even said he was having a problem with a number of the Tauruses he had sold recently. This cannot be coming as a big surprise to Ford motor company. The most recent service manager also said and I quote " that from my perspective I don't see this as a major problem. " so now I am stuck with rental car fees and car payments because Ford can not offer reliable service in a timely fashion. To date the car has been unavailable to me for 13 days and counting. Ford just doesn't seem to show ample concern that stalling unexpectedly on the highway places my life, others' lives and the patients' under my care lives in danger. You would think after the firestone/explorer fiasco they would at least pay lip service to the idea of quality customer service.
