On Sunday, 2/11/2018, I was driving east I-26 in columbia, SC heading to worship services and without warning, my car suddenly shutdown causing me to lose my steering ability. I managed to guide the car out of the 60 mph traffic and came to a stop. After I stopped, I saw a puff of what appeared to be steam or smoke coming from the right front passenger side. As I opened the hood, I could not see any leaks or other evidence of a broken hose or anything that produced the smoke. I checked my fluid levels and discovered that my radiator resevoir was low on fluid. I then pulled the engine oil dipstick and discovered a chocolate milky substance on the dipstick. I suspected that the oil and coolant had mixed causing my engine to fail. I called a wrecker service and had the car towed to classic Ford of columbia. On Monday, 2/12/2018, I received a call from dean ray, service professional from classic Ford. Mr. Ray told me that he thought that the internal water pump failed causing the coolant and oil to mix and possible ruined the engine and I needed to replace the engine. After receiving this information, I conducted research and discovered that Ford was aware of the design flaw with the failure of the internal water pump. When failure of the water pump occurs, there is no warning given to the driver the engine shuts down suddenly. This internal water pump was placed in the 3. 5 duratec engines in the Taurus, edge, flex, fusion, and possibly other Ford cars. This failure almost caused me to have a major accident on a major interstate highway. I think Ford should recall these engines. Many auto experts have discovered this issue with the engine. Loss of life is possibly with this dangerous engine malfunction and an estimated $7,300. 00 engine replacement bill. Please take action ASAP to avoid death and injury to Ford owners. A recall could save lives.

Catastrophic water pump failure leaked a lot of coolant in oil - driver was driving the car on highway when all of sudden the motor just died (stalled), forcing the driver to hard steer to the side of highway. The gauge at the time just suddenly jumped to h - in a span of few seconds and all dash lights illuminated. Very little steam was coming out - very little fluid was leaking. Noticed smell of coolant right away. Looked/double checked under the car - little leak again. Immediately thought maybe water pump or at least radiator hose leak, checked the coolant - it was empty. Had it towed to paul miller Ford in lexington. Very unfriendly customer service. They mentioned that it was a "catastrophic engine failure" - coolant had mixed in with the oil and was pretty much sitting there. I was very fortunate that this has not caused a major accident as I explained it was real difficult to drive the car after it stalled. We followed maintenance schedule - we are very anal about that. My husband has a Ford explorer himself. I am just at disbelief that we had a engine failure at 108,000 miles. I am not sure if this is common among the 3. 5l v6 dohc 24v engine. It was my understanding that Ford had designed the water pump to be intergral part of the engine (pretty much inside the engine now behind the timing chain cover, where you have to remove several parts to get to it. Most people know water pump failed but to be a part of internal engine and to have it pour coolant into engine, mixing up with oil and sit in the oil pan???? huh? costed us several grand to get the engine replaced.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Taurus. While driving 35 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine consumed the water from the radiator, which caused the engine rods to snap. The engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 87,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Taurus. After driving the vehicle, a strong abnormal odor emitted from the hood. When the contact opened the hood, the steam was so hot that he could not touch the radiator hose. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that the water pump was placed in a different location from previous older models causing the radiator to emit higher heat. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 300.

My vehicle suddenly ran hot while driving on the interstate at approximately 65 mph. I immediately pulled off as my exit was approaching and within 1/2 found a safe place to park. The engine had steam coming from the radiator. After calling aaa for a tow, it was towed to the local aaa and then to the classic Ford dealership. As the car arrived on a Friday, Ford did not check it until the following Tuesday. I received a quote from Ford that it needed an entirely new engine, timing belt and water pump for $7, 400. 00! calls to the corporate Ford did no good as they said there was nothing that Ford could do but to keep my receipts in case a recall was ever announced. I called another mechanic that I had used in the past and he was able to fix the engine for $1800. 00. The mechanic said that the engine design was faulty and that if it ever ran hot again, it would do the same damage because of the design.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle over heated without warning. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who stated that the radiator fluid container needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Djr.

I have already had the throttle body replaced 3 times on my vehicle. It lope, headlights dim/bright, and jutts. Also slight unexplained acceleration occurs, and occasional hesitation on acceleration. Fuel filter replaced, fuel pump checked out working properly, and injectors are running fine. Also alternator checked out good, new spark plugs, wires working fine, new battery. Mechanic cannot find anything wrong with the car, but it runs terribly. It`s loped since around 60k miles, and seems to be steadily getting worse. Also on third radiator. A friend told me it could be the ac getting low or charging, or possible iac motor going out, but there`s no real good way of testing it. Dealers keep telling me they won`t fix unless it`s for sure broken. Will take till I`m stranded till a mechanic will fix the problem.

The contact owns a 1995 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while traveling 65 mph, flames emitted from the hood, covering the windshield. The coolant warning light illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic who confirmed hat the radiator and electronic wiring harness needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired and the VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 19,000.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact noticed that she had a flat tire and pulled the vehicle into a service station. While the tire was being replaced, the mechanic noticed that the coil spring punctured the front driver's side tire. The spring and struts were replaced at the cost of $600 on April 12, 2008. In addition, the contact was involved in a rear end crash due to a stabilizer failure. There were no injuries. On June 25, 2009, the radiator hose corroded and caused coolant to leak. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that there was no recall; therefore, they would not assist. The contact was advised to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was 104,000 and current mileage was 105,424. Updated 9/1/09 updated 09/02/09.
This vehicles has a cooling system problem. The vehicle is known by Ford to have a problem and nothing has been done to correct the defect. My vehicle is a 1999 Ford Taurus which developed heating problems last year. Today it was learned that the vehicles cooling system is plugged with a rust type mixture and it is unable to be cleared without replacing the radiator and tearing down the engine to clean it out. Apparently Ford has known about the problem and has basically admitted they have a cooling system problem covering several years. It will cost several thousand dollars to fix this problem which is not an option at this time. I would like to see Ford admit they have a problem and rectify the situation.

Ford coolant corrosion is costing us tooooo much. Engine was running hot. Started with thermostat, then degas bottle cap (full of rust), then water pump (fins corroded and gone), then radiator flushed-full of rust, now head gasket is gone. Flushing system didn't help. Heater core has problems too--no heat to defrost windows which is hazardous to driving car.
My 2005 Taurus kept over heating and couldn't find a leak any where. I kept filling it with water and always kept an eye on it. When the head gasket finally failed my extended warranty refused to pay for the work that needed to be done. Cna is the warranty company. They say it is my fault because I used the wrong fluids (which was water) in the radiator and I used stop leak (which I did not and never would use).

-the contact owns a 2001 Ford Taurus ses. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle shook while driving at 45 mph or faster and got worse the vehicle reached 60 mph. Also, the contact stated that the engine light turned on approximately 2 months after purchasing the vehicle and has not turned off. The contact was told that the emissions caused the engine light to turn on, but that she should not worry about it. The contact had the vehicle for three years now. The contact stated that the engine lost power about 8 months ago, she got a jump start, and had no problem again. The vehicle was currently in a repair shop, and she was told that there was a coolant leak, and that the vehicle needed to have the radiator flushed. The failure and current mileage were both 94600. Consumer states that after driving vehicle for any amount of time coolant leakes out onto the ground when the vehicle is parked. Also while driving at any speed vehicles accelerates without any warning ,and vehicle stalls when brakes are applied.
Sept 18, 2001 we purchased a new 2002 Ford Taurus. In one day radiator hose popped off. Thirty days after the firs repair the hose popped off again. The dealer wanted to replace the engine to correct the problem. On 10-29-01 the car started to make a hiss noise and smoke would come from the front end when it was parked or turned off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer dirks motors. They asked if the could replace the engine again and we said no. We left the car and they told us they would let us know but we did not hear nothing from them, when we would call to ask them what was going to happen they did not know at all. On 11-5-01 the car was returned to us and with leaving the service center and not being less then 20 miles from akron, iowa the car got hot and started to smoke and I called dirks service center on my cell phone and told them I was bring it back and this time I wanted the car replaced no questions. . But the car was taking back and they looked over it and they did not call us at all while it was in service, we called everyday to see if they knew what was wrong with it and the funny thing about it was the car was at dirks motor inc from 11-5-01 to 11-16-01 and they could not find nothing wrong. On 11-16-01 this would have been the 4th time this car had been serviced and it was getting old. . On 12-27-02 the car started the hissing noise and short cuts on and the cd player stopped working and that was it. . I called the Ford company at 1-800-392-3673. While talking with the call center they called dirks service center and edu'd them to have the cd player replaced and look at the engine. This car has been service for the same issue more then 3 to 4 times. . We wanted the car replaced. . . . We rec'd a call back from Fords call center (natalie) and she edu'd to me they were going to order a new cd player and have the car looked at to see about getting the car replaced. Bought 97 Taurus with 53,000 miles in 03-2001 at a Dodge dealership, with extended warranty [Chrysler 24/24]. Took in for oil leak 3,000 miles after purchase. Oil pan gasket repair work was said to be done. Approx. 8,000 miles after that, I took car in again for oil leak and possible coolant leak. Again gasket repairs were suppossedly done; no report or repair on suspected coolant leak. Approximately 9,000 miles after that, car breaks down on fwy; will not crank/turn over. Had car towed to same dealership; reported findings were: no coolant in radiator, coolant in oil basket, no compression. Extended warranty expired 2 months prior to break down. They say the previous complaints aren't related to present problem. I feel the repair work each time I took the car in for service was incomplete, overlooked, or mis diagnosed.

1999 Ford Taurus: VIN # 1fafp53u7xa274923 my wife and I purchased a 1999 Ford Taurus from north point Ford in north little rock, arkansas, on Feb. 16, 2001. Since November 2002, we have had the car at two Ford dealerships and three independent repair shops trying to get the heater fixed. So far it has cost us $1,324. 21. During the most recent repair, north point Ford took apart the entire coolant system, flushed each component and found rust in the engine block, which they said was the source of the problem. At present, the heater is working, but we feel we are due reimbursement for the repairs. The car was still under the manufacturer's warranty when we bought it with 29,891 miles. (the contract states 28,890 as the dealer denied our request to list the correct mileage. ) we purchased an extended "bumper to bumper" warranty at a cost of $1,733 at north point Ford. The big selling point was the warranty would cover all major repairs such as the air conditioner/heater system. The warranty is handled through warrantech automotive, p. O. Box 1179, bedford, TX 76095. The contract # is 14747754; the contract plan code is cv60100ukd; the selling dealer code is 718688 and the local agent code is 183. However, the warranty company has paid very little toward the repairs, claiming they are "maintenance. " I have located service bulletins on the intenet. Among them is #01-15-6 "heater core - repeated failure" and #01-11-6 "cooling system - corrosion/contamination/overheating. " we were also told that on the 1999 Tauruses, Ford sent the vehicles from the factory with a highly corrosive coolant. This would explain the service bulletins on the heater core failure and coolant system corrosion. Lori from the Ford executive offices called Aug. 5 to say Ford is unwilling to help and I must take up the fight with the warranty company.
The contact stated the brakes have not operated properly since purchase. The vehicle will not slow down when the brake pedal is depressed. She must pump the pedal repeatedly, but this does not always work. The rotors and pads have been replaced by the dealership. The dealership was unable to diagnose the cause of the problem. The vehicle has been to an independent repair shop, and they too were unable to diagnose the cause of the problem. Also, the contact detected fumes coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the same repair shop, and they determined the radiator overflow tank had a crack on the bottom. No repairs have been made.
While driving engine gaskets blewout, causing vehicle to stall. Consumer has had number safety problems with vehicle since purchase. Has had to replace heater core/ radiator and thermostat.

Radiator leaks water and cannot be driven. Dealer has yet to be contatced. Please provide further details.
Consumer called it a soft plug that when it blew water and anti freeze leaked out of vehicle. And vehicle can overheat. Consumer states that it cost 70 dollars to replace one soft plug.
The check engine light stayed on. The engine overheated. Cam sensor, heater core, new hose from reservoir and upper radiator hose, radiator cap, radiator, water tube assembly, thermostat, oil pan gasket had to be replaced. The consumer found 1995 model has a recall relating to the same failures. The consumer felt that the problem may be linked to the recall Ford sent out in reference to the faulty head gaskets/engine failures and requested reimbursement for the monies spent on repairs.
My service station is advising me not to drive car because of clogged radiator. New thermostat did not help.
Bought 97 Ford Taurus used. Noticed brown coolant after purchase (Mar 00). Car began overheating in summer, resulting in blown head gasket requiring extensive engine work. Radiator was determined to be bad, required replacement to tune of $2300 for total repair. Have since learned that recall of product has been out (98b23) due to faulty cooling system and a cooling system bypass kit should have been installed (was not). After work was done, engine overheated again two weeks later (1 Aug 2000). I have seen many complaints about this, and Ford has not been any help at all; the dealership just wants my money and more costly repairs.
The engine failed with no warning. At 55 mph, engine lost power, overheated with no indication from temperature gauge and quit. Brown crap spewed from the radiator. Lost all fluids. Diagnostics revealed engine heads were cracked and the compression test was low on two cylinders. A new engine was required.
We contacted mr. Samson (id #3104) and told him that our vehicle was preforming the same promblems as the 3. 6l 95 Taurus. We also told him we had the car diagnosed about 4 months before the engine block cracked at a Ford dealer and they told use that we needed to replace the ignition coil. We replaced the ignition coil but that did not fix the problem. He told us about a radiator flush recall that would have saved our engine but the Ford dealer knew nothing of this recall. We asked if Ford could do anything even pay half he (mr. Samson) said Ford would not do anything. We then asled who was above him so we could talk to them he advised us that there was no one above him.
Driving at 55 mph, noticed when depressing gas pedal would not gain speed. Depressed gas pedal further, non-responsive. Looked at temp gauge, noticed overheated. Pulled over. Bled radiator overfill. Added water and antifreeze. Engine knocked violently when restarted. Called for tow. Notified engine seized and needed to be replaced.
Reimbursement request for repairs performed on defective radiator. There was one front tire separation with a knot, and the radiator was inoperative. (bridgestone weatherizer).
1997 Taurus heating system failed. This was caused by a failure in the radiator. ** answer required*** the radiator failed.
Abs brake failure. In addition, premature wear of brake pads/rotors, causing brakes to pulsate upon application. Also radiator is leaking brown fluid due to rust.
Whenever driving vehicle, radiator cooling (anti-freeze) would overflow onto the fan serpentine belt due to slickness of coolant, would lose control of steering. Moved to side of road to let coolant dry on fan belt & then would proceed.
While driving, stop and go, an anti freeze like odor comes into interior of vehicle; causes dizziness and nausea; dealer replaced radiator expansion tank; did not solve problem.
Rusty water in radiator reservoir. Also, vehicle surges at all times; transmission shifts when going down incline, causing vehicle to runaway and brake vibration when driving at 40-45 mph.
Anti freeze blew out of vehicle unexpectedly while vehicle was in use, causing vehicle to stall .
The problems with my Taurus dates back to a recall concerning the cooling system in 1997. Since then, I've continued to experience premature problems with varying parts of the cooling system including a failed thermostat, heater core, gasket, and radiator. I've contacted Ford, and they refuse to offer any additional assistance.
