Driving down cr 230 in wyoming, the situation started if I have to estimate, 7 miles west of woods landing, I heard a metal on metal grinding noise from the engine bay, and a loss of power on the throttle. I look at my rpm gauge and notice it is a zero. No check engine light, all electronics working as normal along with the brakes, and I slow the vehicle down to 30 mph. Shortly after noticing, I get a "check brake system" flash on my instrument panel cluster, also the light which illuminates for my parking brake turns on, and I lose power brakes, the brake pedal turned extremely stiff. I immediately look for a pull off zone, but because I had lost brakes I did not want to risk keeping the vehicle moving. I get the vehicle stopped on the side of the road, and instantly put it in park along with the parking brake and shut the vehicle off. The vehicle would not start or crank, just a flash across all of the electronics, the lights go dark, then illuminate again as if normal. This is an extremely dangerous situation, the vehicle had not notified me that the motor had stopped turning; not a check engine light or ring at all, and shortly after that the power brakes stop working. This is very dangerous for motorists because of the lack of notification from the vehicle, and the incredibly weak breaking ability. If the vehicle had been moving at highway speeds, any sort of traffic, I could've ended up injured or dead, and even worse, killed another driver. The vehicle was towed to the nearest town where it would be inspected by a dealership; they reported to have found coolant in the oil and that the vehicle needed a new motor. No other details have been confirmed, and the problem has not been reproduced by the dealership. It is unknown if the dealership inspected the braking system.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while his son was stopped at the drive-thru, the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating. The contact's son turned off the vehicle and waited for the engine to cool down before restarting. Upon inspection under the hood, the contact discovered that there was no coolant in the coolant reservoir. The contact added coolant to the coolant reservoir, but the failure recurred while driving and there was coolant leaking onto the ground while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
This 2018 Ford Taurus had a water pump fail. This vehicle has a water pump inside the engine instead of attached to the outside of the engine like usual. When it fails, coolant fluid gets inside of the engine and ruins it. Normally, when a water pump fails, coolant would leak but not inside of the engine. This is a design flaw. This 2018 Taurus was bought new and maintained with excellence at Ford dealerships. This is a loss of worth of $6000 to me. The dealership states it would cost $10000 to replace the engine so it is not worth fixing. We will be getting rid of it so there will be nothing available for inspection especially since you would have to take the engine apart to get at it. Safety was not a concern. I am reporting this to you at the suggestion of Ford customer relations. Interestingly, today the service advisor at the dealership said he had 2 other Tauruses at the dealership at this same time with the same water pump failure/engine destruction. It seems unlikely that this is a coincidence. There should be a recall so that others do not suffer. A warning light did come on. Aaa was called and the vehicle was towed to the dealership.

The “power steering assist” message was displayed on the instrument panel. Two unknown dealers were notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering); and linked the failure to the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.

I have learned there is a known issue with the 3. 5liter twin turbo v6 motor water pump. The "cyclone motor" design by Ford has a known problem with water pump leaking and must be replaced, costs are typically $4,500 as the engine has a known design flaw in that the water pump was placed inside the motor causing a high degree of failure and labor-intensive repair. Ford is well aware of this issue yet they have not contacted my regarding this known issue. I now have my vehicle in the repair shop at walker Ford in clearwater being repaired and an invoice due of $4,500. I wish for your assistance to have this repair covered under the recall and or warranty. My vehicle has 62k miles.

Upgrades allowed a low mpg.
Was driving and the accelerator/has pedal stopped working. A wrench indicator came on. The engine stopped working. I pulled to the side of the road and the engine started shaking. I turned the engine off then restarted it. It functioned fine. This happened twice in 2 days. It's the electronic throttle body. Ford won't fix the issue for free. It has 44k miles on it. An obvious manufacturer defect.

Please investigate this matter. I have reason to believe my car has a defeat, just like most 2013 police interceptor the were recalled due to code p0420. I went to autonation Ford miami they said they have seen defects on my catalytic converter and I would like an investigation completed. I went to autonation Ford on Saturday, 12/16/2023 for the gsm iolm system service - 80,000 miles repair. The dealer believes it is a defeat, I would have to contact Ford. Therefore I am contacting NHTSA to investigate this matter. I get a service repair done on 12/16/2023 - 80,000 miles package service. I brought the car to autonation Ford in good shape. I never had the engine light on, and the car drove great. Sunday,12/17/2023 in the morning, I wanted to go to the park, so I get in the car and unbelievably the car engine light turns on. The engine light is on for p0420 code - catalyst system low efficiency. I scheduled the appointment and drop off the car on Saturday, 12/23/2023. I spoke with the representative and told him my concerns which are the recalls and defeats on the car, and he said I would have to pay $200 for the diagnostic for the catalytic, however I told him “but I just paid to inspect the complete exhaust system and heat shields last Saturday [12/16/2023]. ” I went to pick up the car on Thursday 12/28/2023 in the morning, the Ford representative said the car is fine, and there is nothing wrong with the car. I say thank you and drive off. So, I am driving the car for about 5 minutes, the engine light comes on, I make a u turn and return the car to autonation Ford for service. The dealer say it is a defeat, I would have to contact Ford. Therefore I am contacting NHTSA to investigate this matter. My Ford's water pump broken first time in 2020 since and then now I'm on my 5th time to change this water pump and the mechanicians were unable to explain what happened exactly. Now the water pump broken and need replacement again.
Water pump is defective, leaks, and provides no warning in system. Replacing is unbelievably expensive ($5,000 for a water pump, but inside engine so extensive labor) and Ford needs to perform a recall as it can create major motor damage rendering the vehicle inoperable. Had to replace ours this past summer and now our daughter's 2013 Lincoln mks has the same issue for same unbelievable expense and now we have to monitor our 2013 Ford explorer for potential same issue. No warning lights! too expensive for consumers to repair! please, do right thing and make Ford responsible. Under 150k miles on each vehicle!.
My vehicle's oil lines to the turbo charger failed and caused a huge oil leak and my car was smoking all over the highway. I had the vehicle towed to a nearby service station recommended by aaa. After discovering the issue, the repairman indicated there was a recall on this exact issue. However, I was never notified by Ford of the recall. When I called Ford I was informed that the recall only applied to vehicles built between oct and Nov 2016. My vehicle was built in April. I feel that this issue couldn't have been limited to that small window of time, obviously Ford is not sharing the appropriate information with nhsta. I had to pay $3000 to fix my vehicle for a problem that Ford is well aware this vehicle is still having. I'm deeply disappointed in Ford.
I’m not having any success with my local Ford dealership or with Ford customer service getting my car covered under the customer satisfaction program. I have fuel system issues, I need to replace both cats and 2 bad sensors, halfshaft, fuel system, and braking issues. The dealership said to contact Ford and Ford says it’s the dealership’s problem. If they don’t fix it, I’m done with Ford. If they can’t stand behind their products and their dealerships won’t help the customers, then my loyalty is done. I’ve already had to replace a poorly designed ptu at my expense and now this, buyer beware on interceptors. Let’s hope I don’t have any other issues. No one seems to be willing to help and I’m beyond frustrated with this experience.
I have a check engine light on my dash. I have several codes. I have problems with the car like the fuel pump, catalytic converter not functioning efficiently, steering, etc. I know Ford has problems with its cars.
This vehicle was sold to me with a not for sale in states requiring California emissions, no governor on the vehicle as well faulty lighting mechanisms. The fuel pump is fluctuating and the car is a danger to myself and those around me. I consulted with a independent licensed mechanic who confirmed these defaults. No warning lights no messages and the dealer did not point out these flaws. I discovered this issue after getting some routine maintenance done on the vehicle.
My 2015 Ford Taurus goes into limp mode because of inadequate air flow across the throttle body actuator. Scanner results show the throttle body actuator as the problem issue. I have sprayed cleaner in the butterfly spring but the vehicle is still going into limp mode after driving it only a few miles after spraying the cleaner. It could be the throttle body has issues or it could be one of the sensors. At any rate, having the vehicle go into limp mode while driving 80 mph down the freeway is a very dangerous situation. It has put me in precarious positions and it is clear that the throttle body is the issue.
Water pump failure causing a major leak. Because the vehicle is designed to have the water pump run on the timing chain and the oil pan right underneath the water pump, the coolant leaks right into the oil pan and coolant enters the engine. I was driving on a back road and had to abruptly pull over on the side of the road because the driver assist screen said “engine coolant overheating. ” this was the first and only time this message appeared. There was smoke coming from under the hood. Numerous mechanics that I’ve spoken to said that if I drove it any longer, there’s a good chance the engine could blow. So now I’m looking at a $3,000+ repair for this. Realistically, any other make and model (that was designed with common sense) with a failed water pump should cost $500-1,000. And won’t run the risk of ruining your engine on top of it. I spoke to several Ford dealers and third party mechanics. Every one of them knew exactly what I was talking about like they had seen this many times before. The third party mechanics refused to fix it because it’s an 11+ hour labor none of them said there are any pro’s to having the water pump connected to the timing chain. But there are many con’s to this design. Sounds like negligence on behalf of the engineers who designed all the 3. 5l and 3. 7l v6’s in the Fords. Luckily, I was going between 20-30 mph on a backroad when this occurred. Otherwise, this could have ended very badly and I’d like to prevent this from happening to anyone else in the future.
After exiting thruway after driving 10-15 minutes, car shuts off at a stop sign/traffic light. Notice on screen right hand side state transmission not in park. I put car into park then restart vehicle. This has happened three times in last 6 months. Taken to dealer and they cannot reproduce problem or when scanned, no problem shows up.
