I have a 2005 Ford Taurus with a little over 68,000 miles. While I was driving the car began to speed up on its own and became very difficult to stop. I would apply the brake but the car would not slow down very easily and I was almost in an accident because of this. I managed to pull the car off to the side of the road and placed it into park. Even as the car was idling in park the rpms continued to go up. The car had to be towed to a local certified mechanic, who determined the problem to be the idle control solenoid. This incident was terrifying and I do not feel the car is safe anymore.

At around 70,000 miles noted that the engine rpms would go up without acceleration periodically, and the car became difficult to control. Took it in, found that the cruise control cable was disconnected and after replacement the problem was solved.
I was driving at night in expressway traffic when the vehicle quit running. There was total loss of control : engine not running and all electrical components and lighting went off. Only manual steering was available to maneuver the vehicle to the expressway shoulder . The alert actions of the drivers behind me did prevent a serious accident. Instrument panel message stated "shift into park"… while the vehicle was moving. This action would have resulted in immediate transmission damage. Vehicle started normally in park. There were no problems during the rest of the trip. The vehicle has a push button start. Brake pedal pressure is required to start the vehicle in neutral or park. Restarting this moving vehicle in neutral would have slowed the momentum required to safely bring the vehicle to a stop. The Ford dealership found no computer codes. Advice from the service advisor was " drive or trade the vehicle". The manufacturer instructed the dealer to replace the "electronic throttle body assembly".

Rear coil springs and head gasket I didn't know how to describe the head gasket from the choices.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. While driving less than 65 mph, it felt as if the engine were shaking. The highway felt rough to drive on and the coil spring snapped. The contact stated that every bump and groove in the road felt as if the engine were moving around. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were less than 110,000.

Usaa fleet vehicle caught fire while in normal operation on a downtown street in GA.
This incident occurred in a rented 2008 Ford Taurus. I left a restaurant, drove a very short distance to my hotel, pulled into a parking space, began applying the brake and the engine surged uncontrollably. No matter how I braked, I could not stop it. It tore out a small tree and lodged into the wall of the hotel.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. Whenever the contact starts the vehicle, the rpm's increase to 1,100. Also, when the gear is placed into drive, the engine idles at high rpm's. The contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failure. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current mileage was 105,304 and failure mileage was 96,000.
Engine starts to misfire and loses power during strong acceleration to pass a slower vehicle on the freeway, occurs after engine is warm, around twenty miles of driving. This occurs every time I drive the vehicle and it is unsafe to operate. The dealer has looked at it three times and he states that they can't find anything wrong, even after I take a mechanic for a ride and prove it to them. Dealer replaced wiring, plugs, ignition and it still does it and now the dealer doesn't want to work on the car any longer.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Taurus. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, the engine revved up and the vehicle drove into the wall of his garage. The failure occurred six months ago and damaged his garage wall. On July 8, 2007, the failure recurred. The vehicle revved up to 4,000 rpms, which has never happened before while driving. It generally occurs right before the vehicle is placed into park. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 68,000.

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus with a blown head gasket. It seems to me that the Ford motor CO. Knew all along this was a problem. I took my car in to get the thermostat replaced because I did not have any heat. I get the call the next day that I have a blown head gasket. I have an autistic daughter and my mother who has rheumatoid arthritis that I need to use this car to take to doctor appts. And such. I can not afford to fix this problem, an $1100. 00 problem, nor can I afford to go out and buy another car. I am upset, angry, hurt, and other emotions I cannot describe. Is there anything I can do or a class action lawsuit I can contact?.
: the contact stated the vehicle caught fire and burned. The vehicle was parked for over an hour prior to the fire. The fire department made an assessment and report of the fire and determined it could have started around the engine compartment due to the massive damage sustained to the engine. The insurance company investigated the vehicle and deemed it totaled in a written report.
The consumer had a 2004 Ford Taurus that was purchased on 4/1/05. On 6/25/05, 10 minutes after the oil was changed the vehicle caught on fire down the road from the dealer. The insurance investigator said the fire started because the dealer didn't put the oil cap back on properly.

Delivery status notification (failure) concerning complaint against rome Ford Mercury Lincoln car dealership. The vehicle had been sitting at the dealer with a blown head gasket since July 30, 2004. The consumer was contacted by a representative who informed him that his vehicle was irreparable.
Sudden failure of cylinder/valve in 2000 Taurus s/w with only 28,000 miles.
From the first day I bought the car, there was a vibration in the steering wheel in idle. When I inquired about it, they said it was normal because I have 24 ohv engine. I had a 1999 Taurus and I didnt have the vibration. I asked for another car and they said I could only buy another one not "just get another one". I think this is a lemon.

Engine surges under constant speeds. Brakes soft in middle of pedal stroke. Dealer says both are related. Soft pedal alarms driver. 2 inches sudden travel in pedal causes driver to over depress brake to compensate for sudden "no brake" condition.
Consumer states that while driving at any speed and without warning vehicle will shut off, causing consumer to pull over. Dealer notified.
"service engine soon" light came on (2nd time) first time Ford dealership did full transmission flush($125) to see if corrected problem. Two months later (on long drive), warning came on again. Took to dealership and said it was a transmission code that needed the transmission dropped to determine cause ($300). They told me that (even though the transmission was working ok) that the transmission was having a complete and total failure. All parts and components were either scorched or failed when tested and recommended a total rebuild ($2862) or purchase a Ford rebuilt one ($2756). I said this was unacceptable for a car with 39,400 miles on it. They said they could do nothing and I contacted Ford motor company. They sounded interested but would not back up their product due to being out of warranty. (so much for the quality one - customer care moto). Reading other complaints this is a very common problem in the Ford Taurus over the years. We had a 1994 Taurus that had transmission problems to the tune of $1,100. Needless to say this is my last Ford product and they wonder why people by foreign vehicles!. When I told the dealership to put the car back together that I can get a rebuilt transmission from 2 other transmission sources (used parts for $1400) or new rebuilt parts for $2030), they then said "let me see if there is any last thing my management will do" of course when put on the spot to lose business and respectability they lowered their price to $2281 for a Ford rebuilt one. I am still concerned since a lot of others say they had failures with their 2nd one too! it comes with a 3/36,000 warranty. I cannot believe that this day and age that the consumer should be responsible for the total repair costs when known defects occur. A safety recall should be looked into as some transmissions have separated and locked up causing immediate stoppage of vehicle like slamming on brakes.

Defective freeze plugs in 1996 Ford 3. 0 vulcan engine in Taurus sedan. On two different occasions freeze plugs corroded through letting hot engine coolant spill on to my hands causing burns. There was a recall issued but I was never notified as the car owner. Cost of repair vehicle was over $500 the engine transmission had to be removed and all freeze plugs were replaced. This cost should have been born by Ford motor CO. But was an out of pocket expense for me.

The vehicle caught on fire while driving. The consumer viewed smoke coming from the dash then from the hood area. Scc.
Head gasket defects seem prevalent with Ford engines. Mine just went on my 1999 Taurus wagon with only 37,000 miles.
The engine rod failed.
Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the engine will seize and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle causing the consumer to pull over. Dealer notified ts.
The oil pan rusted.
Catastrophic failure of head gasket while traveling at highway speed. Caused total failure of electrical power systems inhibiting braking and steering making control of the car difficult and endangering driver, passengers and surrounding vehicles.
The vehicle continued to lose power, the sensor, alternator and ignition was replaced, however the problem recurred.
Consumer states that the 3l v6 engine has a crack in the engine block. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
While driving heard a noise and vehicle cut off, which was as caused by cam failure.
Camshaft snapped, causing loss of vehicle control. Dealer has been notified. Consumer states that the sprocket on the camshaft came loose, causing the cam to quit turning, this caused the valves and pistons to hit each other, the engine died and vehicle lost power brakes and power steering.
