This is a failure of the secondary sprocket on the camshaft of my 1997 Taurus sho. This to me seems to be a manufacturing defect the camshaft is attached to the cam by splines which under the stress of the engine spin un the cam which throws off the timing and destroys the engine. Ford knows of this problem and asked the people of v8show. Com to send them some cams so they can test them. I am an owner that owes $6000 on a vehicle which is completly out of order sitting in my garage because I do not have the extra money anywhere between 5000 and 15000 to fix it. 5000 is for a used engine wth 50,000 miles on it. 15,000 is the cost of a new engine from Ford. Please help in anyway you can.
While driving, the vehicle stopped running. The sprocket on the camshaft had come loose which threw off the timing/pistons, hitting a valve, and destroyed the engine. Contacted dealer.
Head gasket-car died, warning lights did not light.
While driving at approximately 70 mph engine lost all power, and there was a "ticking" noise coming from engine compartment. Dealership examined vehicle, and determined that camshaft failed, and the engine had to be replaced. Please provide any additional information / documentation.
Motor mount has broken, safety issue?.

Camshaft secondary sprocket failed, spinning on the camshaft tube causing the engine to stop instantly when the valve and pistons tried to occupy the same space in the combustian chamber. New replacement engines are not available for this vehicle, only salvage units. Rebuilds, if possible on this model exceed $4800 at the very least! I have been informed while performing some research on this problem that it is "a common problem for this motor" according to a local Ford dealership.
Oil was blowing out of the oil pan. Consumer can smell gas inside of vehicle. Took to dealer, and they were going to replace the seals.

Camshaft failure. This seems to be happening more and more often on these cars. I have spoke to many that this has happened to. Ford is doing nothing for the victims of this problem. What more can we do to get a recall or reimbursment?.
Normal camshaft failure accurring in these model cars.
Camshaft gear separated from camshaft.
The vehicle is equipped with adjustable pedals. The pedals are so close together that when the consumer applied the brakes, the engine would surge as if it wanted to continue in drive and not stop. The last incident the vehicle surged to the point consumer could not stop the vehicle. Vehicle was stopped by a fence.

The 1996 Ford Taurus shos are a 3. 4l 4 cam v8. On the left bank of the v8, the exhast camshaft broke. The dealer reporting the damage to me said that this camshft is driven as a slave camshft to the intake camshaft which is driven off the timing chain. It is possible that in other cases that the damage could be on the right side cylinder bank. They are identical in design, meaning one camshaft is driven off of a slave chain from the other camshaft, which is in turn driven off the timing chain. It appears that the camshafts in these v8 shos are an achilles heel. There have been many reported failures. . Read more...
This is a known issue to the Ford motor company. They have known for a long time of the head gasket in their 3. 0 engine problem and refused to admit it. In researching the engine I found that there is a secret extended warranty to 100,000 miles for this problem if the engine has major damage which mine did.
When driving and just stopping, andwith no warning spindle on camshaft came loose from engine.
A block in the engine shouldnt crack within 3 months of buying a vehicle unless there was a problem with it earlier, im running a background check with lawyer. Please help.

2000 Ford Taurus dies during normal driving. The consumer was unable to start the vehicle, and when it did start, it died on many occasions, the vehicle would run rough, and the gas gauge was inoperative. The fuel module was replaced along with the fuel pump sender, under dash gauge module, and the #2 sensor.
Camshaft failure on interference engine in '1996 Taurus loss of power steering/ power brakes. What could happen in this auto with such a failure at highway speed?.
The rear camshaft sprocket broke requiring the engine to be replaced. The cost of the used engine was $2000 and the cost to replace the engine was $2100. Ford was contacted and refused to repair or contribute to the repair cost. I understand this problem is becoming widespread.
This is the second time a camshaft sprocket has failed. The first time was under warranty so the engine was replaced at no cost to me. Now my warranty is out and the estimated bill is over $3,000. This could be a very dangerous situation because the vehicle loses power all at once. This could cause a serious accident in traffic. I have seen many other complaints on this same problem(at least 20 other incidents). Will it take someone being killed before something is done about this problem.
Foul odor in psgr compartment after eng gets hot (20 min); retd to dlr 3x, dlr=no prob found;brakes=pulsate, turned rotors;intermittent washer spray when wipers on(washer fluid not activated) =turn signal sw rplcd;broken mo mount found, dlr replcd; sway bar brkn, dlr replcd; dlr bought vehl back due to odor problem-slsman & uv mgr were wonderful, serv dept =depends on tech involved; bought 2000 tau ses fr bd Ford.
On December 16, 2000 we were traveling to phila. Via i95 from wilmington for a xmas party. As we approached the restaurant my engined ceased as we turned on to the street near the restaurant. Fortunately we were able to drift into a parking space. Car was towed to home that evening and then to dealer the following day. Dealer did diagnostic test and reported no compression to two valves. Never offered to investigate further, but recommended new engine, approximate cost $10,814, dealer was unfamiliar with what could have caused the problem. Contacted Ford, whose customer service rep did not know of this model Taurus. As car was out of warranty, Ford offered no assistance and said that car should be traded as 85k was high mileage. Transferred car to winner, newark DE, where engine was taken apart. Mechanic found 4 bent cylinders but could not explain why it happened only that it appeared that sprocket teeth had snapped, releasing chain and causing damage to camshafts. Repairs took approximately 4 months due to parts and lack of tech's knowledge of engine. Car has been back to service 5 times for additional repairs, I. E. Replace imrc, iac motor, gasket seal. Car has valve tap and engine oil pressure warning when drive for more than 15 minutes at high speeds. Dealer has reported problem is above their head. This car is a street prototype of nascar racing cars, while I drove 50 rt miles on backroads/day it has a top end speed of 131+, adherence to Ford maintenance schedules and use of Ford certified techs are mandatory to maintain the car. My problem has now surfaced on many shos and is now a documentable defect. This engine could have ceased on i95 while doing 85mph. Cost to repair to date, $3200, and is still a danger to drive and Ford cannot recommend where and how to fix.
Rear engine gasket was defective, it blew off causing oil to drain which required engine replacement, Ford stated to consumer that the first available engine will not be available until March of 2001, the defective engine almost caused a crash.
Head gasket was never any good. I have spent approximately $2500. 00 on repair cost and survived two winters without heat in the vehicle. Ford company knew about the problem with the vehicle and did nothing. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*734332.

While driving white smoke came out. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and mechanic said that it would need a new engine, consumer felt it was too soon to have a new engine.
The front freeze plug between cylinder 4 and 5 blew or fell out caused by compression from the head gasket, new engine required, Ford unresponsive.
1996 Ford Taurus with blown head gasket at approximately 69,500 miles.
Fuel pump and fuel related incidences throughout the life of the vehicle. Oil gasket problems, various other idiosyncrasies.
Engine heads cracked, causing sudden loss of power, scoring of engine cylinders requiring replacement of entire engine.
While the vehicle was being serviced, the technician heard a taping noise coming from engine. It was discovered the cam shaft sprocket failed.
Vehicle does not decelerate normally when the accelerator is released due to a computer controlled design feature of the engine. The design flaw results in deceleration, and excesive acceleration if going down hill. Also causes cruise control to overshoot the set speed by 20-40 mph.
Rear motor mounts are worn out. But under warranty, and dealer will not replace mounts until they break. Owner would like to know if other vehicles of the same make or models have pemature breakdown of motor mounts.
While traveling notice engine check indicator light would stay on. Technician stated that camshaft needed to be replaced. Please provide further information.
