8 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/31/2002

I was driving home from work on a busy highway (rt. 80) when th Ford Taurus that I was driving began to shut off. I was driving 50 miles per hour when the car began to slow down to a complete stop. I managed to get the car pulled over to the shoulder on the busy highway. It was rush hour and the highway was extremely busy. When I came to a complete stop I opened the hood on the busy highway. There was smoke coming up from the antifreeze overflow tank. I checked the oil and it was ok. I had the car towed to a garage. The garage informed me there was a crack in the head gasket or in the engine block. This garage did not want to touch the car because they said oil was mixing with the antifreeze. I then had the car towed to a Ford dealer in lehighton,PA they informed me that there is internal damage to my motor and the repairs could cost up to $4000. I have had this vehicle for 1 year and I still owe $11,000 on the vehicle. I was never offered an extended warrenty on the car. I do not feel like this is my fault and I do not feel like I should have to pay $4000 repair for this car. Thankyou, laura cox.

It is only going to be until there is some unsuspecting mother and child that dies from losing control of the vehicle on an expressway when this happens. Then maybe Ford will try to rectify the problem. Please do what you can to force Ford to rectify the problem before the loss of life has occured. Not only will Ford not fix there mistake but they have the only parts to repair these vehicle and have set the price to puchase these parts at an outragous amount. $1000 for a new cam. $500 for a gasket set $12000 for a new engine.

Was driving to work ar 5am on 6-21 and it was raining while sitting at a stop sign an 18 wheeler passed and caused water to splash up and my car died. I started the car and went on to work and worked 7. 5 hours on my way home I was motioned off the road by another driver and told to get out of the car that there was flames shooting out from the car this driver took me to get a tow truck and while we were gone the fire dept had to be called to put a fire out on the car. The car has been at putnam Lincoln for over 2 months because it has to have a new motor and Ford will not replacre the motor because they said I drove through water this has caused me much stress and mental trauma and because of this I might have to file bankruptcy if I can not get help getting my car back on the road. I was told by putnam that the same thing happened to another Ford car the same day and have been told about several 1997 Ford vechicles that the same thing has happened to and that the consumer has to pay to fix the vechicle I can not afford to fix the vechicle and it is not safe for a vechicle that will catch on fire to be on the road and if the problem was due to me driving in the rain that am why and how could it catch on fire that afternoon. I need help desperately please I have also been told that Ford can not determing the amount of damage caused by the fire until they get the 3500. Need for the new motor and get the car started again all Ford has offered me is to extend two months payments I am scared of this vehicle and do not really want it back but I need to get the whole situation resolved somehow I had this vechicle back to the dealer several times for fuel pump problems whie it was still under warranty I thank god that I was not injured but I need something done about the car.

The dealership did say they have heard of this problem with the 1999 Ford Taurus, however there is not a recall on them. In addition, with this high idle the car will make a sudden surge when brake is released. Car has been to dealer over 18 times, dealer and Ford are aware of problem, have changed numerous parts but were never able to find actual cause. Ford refuses to make replacement and/or repurchase offer other than what dealer will offer as minimal "trade-in" value if I purchase a new Ford. Dt.
