38 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/24/2015

Today I noticed my cruise control would not engage. Later as I pulled up to a stop sign, my car revved forward and I had difficulty stopping it with the brakes. When I proceeded, it accelerated quickly with no gas applied, until I stopped it. It continued to rev after putting it in park. I troubleshot it with a coworker who saw a few other friends with this problem, and he showed me what it was: my cruise control cable disconnected from the throttle, and then stuck in front of the throttle so that it would not close. The clip locking the cruise cable to the throttle is defective. Very dangerous! I can't believe there hasn't been a recall for this.

39 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Tl - the contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the accelerator pedal became stuck without warning and there was a sudden increase of engine rpms. The vehicle was merged to the side of the road, where it was turned off and towed to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the throttle cable was defective and needed to be replaced. The contact mentioned that there was a manufacturer service campaign directly related to the failure. However, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000. Pm.

40 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

I have experienced problems with my Taurus for three years beginning with the bad brake system, leaking moon roof, and now the trottal sensor performance system. The brake started with cable not releasing with the brakes are applied causing a rubbing noise which avis Ford still claiming they can't see or hear anything, next, the roof leak and replacing of the noisy air condition system that was replace and still has some knocking when the system is turned on. Third the car was required by the dealer to go through a computer upgrade with has cause the car to have performance issues. My car is at the dealership today for not execellarating. I was driving on Saturday with my two grandchildren under 4 years old and my car stop working, leaving me stranded with the children. The rpm lost power and the car would not drive, although the gears were working. I have always been a Ford owner, but with the multiple issues I have had with my Taurus, my desire is to go with another company and bid Ford farewell forever. Each time I take my car back to the dealership they continue to tell me that the issues are normal wear for the 2010 Taurus with the mileage of 88000 miles. I have been having issues with my car since before 36000 miles and the issues keep adding. Ford motor company should be responsible for the products they design and put on the road. I have seen other Taurus car that have not had half the issues my car has experienced over the past 5 years. Ford needs to buy my car back and replace it with a more reliable vehicle that does not have a million issues. My car has regular scheduled maintenance and still has issue after issue, that avis will not resume the responsibility to just creating a bad vehicle. This is my last Ford car, I will by elsewhere moving forward. I am a disappointed Ford customer, and I am not happy with Ford service.

41 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

I was entering onto the freeway, and when I accelerated to reach 60mph, the vehicle continued to accelerate without my foot on the pedal, and had to use my brakes continuously to keep from crashing into other cars until I could get it safely pulled over to the emergency lane, and forcing the stop with all I had. The whole car was shaking. Quite scary. Had it towed to the dealership, and the diagnosis was that the cruise cable broke and got caught on the accelerator cable which caused sudden and unintended acceleration. While researching this issue, found others who experienced the same thing. Why there isn't a recall on this, I will never know. If there are numerous complaints of malfunctions resulting in possible crash, don't you think the manufacturer would put the consumer first, investigate it, and make it right? I will never buy another Ford.

42 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

This is my second complaint on the same problem. In the past week my car started accelerating with the rpms up to 4000. The first time I was able to pull over and put it in neutral. While in neutral I revved the gas but it took a few times before the rpms reverted to normal. I experienced this in the past a few years ago and made a similar complaint. My mechanic replaced the cable and I sent it in to be analyzed. I called my mechanic today and he is sure it is the same problem because it happened again while if was exiting an off ramp from the expressway. This time I put it in neutral again and pressed the gas pedal hard twice and the engine when to normal. This is obviously a defect and a safety issue. I am just happy it is not winter so I have a better chance of controlling this obviously defective vehicle. I am concerned that nothing was done initially and even if I wanted to sell this car I would not want anyone to experience this potentially harmful problem. I am getting this repaired again but I am disappointed that this problem is not important enough to recall.

43 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/05/2015

20150705 0940 as I was driving about 25-30 mph the car started accelerating on its on, I tapped on the brakes, there were no deceleration of the vehicle, as the car continued to accelerate. As I was coming to my left hand turn approaching other vehicles I realize that I was not going to be able to stop the car as long as the car keeps accelerating, therefore I executed the turn prematurely to avoid a possible accident. As I entered onto the street I turned on to I pumped the brakes several times and the car continued to accelerate. I continued to press the brakes and slowing the car to about 5 mph and released the brakes and the car taken off again. I placed the car in neutral and revved the engine several times and the engine speed came back down to idle. I just had the vehicle at the butch oustalet Ford dealership (20150512 with a written and oral description of the problems with the acceleration, engine shut-off, stalling . I was contacting by them informing me about the cruise control cable, windshield wiper water hose broken as well as bill for over $1000. 00 to repair. As I researched online last night to find out there has been a issue related for this same problem, and that NHTSA has contacted Ford about this, but given them the opportunity to handle it in-house, a recall was never issued of this potentially death trap at the cost of the consumer. On the invoice there is a limited warranty for certain parts, but there is no warranty for misdiagnosing, wrongful charge, intentional fraud and abuse of customer expectation, not to mention integrity of the dealership. What I have read online regarding NHTSA investigation is , it is going to take several deaths related to this issue before positive corrective matters are taken before the consumers receive the justice that is needed. 1965 mustang issues, still in denial.

44 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/25/2015

Car accelerator got stuck at about 4,000 rpms. It would not dislodge until car was forced to stop by maxing pressure on brakes and putting car into 'park'. Research shows that the cruise control cable gets worn and disconnects from the throttle body and can get stuck on the throttle cable disallowing the throttle to return to idle position. This VIN is not subject to any open recalls but the condition is very dangerous.

45 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/29/2015

I was driving on a country road with curves and hills. My car began racing ahead, even though I wasn't pressing harder on the accelerator. I took my foot off the accelerator and it surged uphill, I braked but the engine pulled hard speeding up even faster. I was in drive, but shifted to 1 (low). There was no where to pull over, I managed to make it home and call my mechanic. He replaced the ignition coil and the problem went away until June 26th (while I was away from home on a long distance trip). There would be acceleration and when the floor mat was pulled away and the accelerator pedal was pushed up from underneath with the foot, the problem would go away. This was intermittent between June 26 - July 1. On July 2nd, we were in san francisco in bumper to bumper traffic, when the car would pull ahead, pressing hard on the brake I could barely keep the car from hitting the car in front of me. Finally, I managed to pull over and park. When I turned the engine off and back on again, it no longer revved up (3,000 - 4,200 rpm). We drove for 45 minutes, then the same problem started again. We pulled over and got a tow to a mechanic. The mechanic checked everything (including the cruise control cable, accelerator cable, and throttle) he found intermittent problems with (I think, it was a long scary day yesterday and the car is at the mechanics with the paperwork) the throttle (not throttle cable). I had him replace the throttle and halfway home from san francisco, it began revving and racing ahead, brakes were applied, but we could smell the brake pads burning, we were able to pull off safely without incident. After allowing the car to rest for almost 2 hours, it was still revving between 3,000-4,200 rpm's, with an intermittent "thump" lurch. I'm afraid to drive it, I feel like my life is in danger in this car. *mileage listed above is approximate*.

46 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/26/2015

My daughter had just left a stoplight and at approximately 35 miles an hour let off the throttle but vehicle continue to accelerate. Pushed as hard as possible on the brake to slow vehicle down and get off the road put in park throttle still high, shut the vehicle off. I investigated and found cruise control cable casing had come out of plastic retainer clip and end of cable housing caught on plastic retaining clip causing throttle to remain open approximately 1/2 inch off idle!.

47 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/23/2015

Accelerated on its own. Reached a speed of 60 mph on busy highway. Was unable to brake but was able to pull over and put the car in park. After looking under the hood, noticed the cruise control cable had come off. Almost had a collision. Very dangerous!.

48 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/08/2015

Car was accelerating spontaneously, appears that the accelerator was sticking at the throttle body due to defective cruise control cable that dislodged and got stuck into accelerator mechanism. Car was accelerating on freeway at 70 mph and climbing, pulling on gas pedal with foot of no benefit. Ultimately had to turn off keys after heading to off ramp. Nicknamed car "christine" after this frightening incident. Noticed multiple reports of same problem on web with brief search. Called Ford customer service and spoke with three representatives. Wondering if there is a recall. They were clear to indicate " not our problem" as car is "out of warranty".

49 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

The gas pedal was stuck and I could not slow down, I put the car in neutral and stepped on the gas pedal hard and the rpms lowered and I could drive normal again, I did a search on the internet and the speed control cable is the cause, sure enough I looked under the hood after my search and it was disconnected and was interfering with the throttle.

50 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

I have a 05 Ford Taurus with the same exact symptoms as the previous year Taurus had wich lead to a recall. My cruise control cable will come off the throttle body holding the throttle open and revving at 4 grand when pit in neutral to resolve the issue. After a week of disputing with the car dealership, they finally fixed it at no charge.

51 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

On the afternoon of 10/08/2014, owner's spouse was operating said vehicle on a country road. She had just stopped at a stop sign, accelerated and turned onto a state highway. When the vehicle reached approximately 40mph, vehicle began quickly accelerating on it's own. Car reached 80mph. In a panic, driver didn't know what to do, so she pressed on the brakes as hard as she could but could only get the vehicle to slow to approximately 40mph. Driver made a quick decision and turned into a driveway, shut vehicle off and put it in park. Driver called husband. Husband told driver to turn on car. Car revved up to approximately 5000rpm. Husband told driver to put the car in neutral and punch on the accelerator a couple of times. This brought rpm back to normal. This was an extremely dangerous situation, as driver didn't know exactly what to do in this instance and there were many other vehicles on the road. Driver just got lucky that she did the right thing. This happens to the car daily. This evening, owner's son checked under the hood and found the cruise control cable was unhooked due to a broken bracket. This evening, owner's spouse checked the internet for possible causes. Exact cause was found but couldn't find any recalls for this specific problem. Son said to unhook the cruise control module. Will see if this solves the problem.

52 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

My 2004 Ford Taurus accelerated on its own quite a few times. After goggling the problem I saw that there had been a recall. I called Ford & was told my car wasn't included in the recall. They also told me to get it fixed because it could be dangerous. I know that because I was almost in a few accidents because of the sudden acceleration. I'd have to pull over, if not at a red light or stop sign, put the car in park & hit the accelerator a few times. I actually had to turn the car off & back on once to get the rpms down. I had the cruise control cable totally removed. The cruise hadn't worked in yrs. My mom owned the car before I did. I'd like to know why my Taurus wasn't in the recall.

53 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

Was stopped at a stop light and went to accelerate and the car started to accelerate by itself up to 4000 rpm's and I was unable to get it to stop. Had to keep two feet on the brakes until I could get it to a stopping place. When I had to stop I would have to put the car in neutral an the engine was still revving up and the brakes started to smoke. Had the car towed to a mechanic and he said it was the cruise control cable that had came loose. It was a very scary situation and thankfully no one was hurt and I managed to get the car to a place where I could stop and turn it off. The brakes were smoking and the rear brakes are totally burnt up. I am just glad that my wife or daughter were not driving when this occurred because I don't think they would have know what to do in that type of situation and there could have been a much worse outcome. We have been the sole owners of this vehicle.

54 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. When the brake pedal was depressed, the throttle would continue to rev intermittently. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the control cables detached from the throttle body and subsequently interfered with the throttle fully closing to the idle position. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

55 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Taurus. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and continued to accelerate when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to shift the gear into neutral in order to stop the vehicle. The dealer stated that the cruise control cable was wrapped around the accelerator cable and caused the failure. The cruise control and accelerator cables were replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 140,000.

56 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/23/2014

Traveling at 60 mph, had to slow down for a slower vehicle but the car did not slow down when I removed my foot from gas pedal. I braked and slowed the car, but had to ride the brake as the car tried to accelerate. When we encountered a stop light, the brakes almost could not hold the car back. I put the car in park and reved the engine twice and the car idel speed droped from 4000+ rpm back to normal. This happened several times on the trip home. I did a quick google search for this problem and found earlyer Taurus models with simaler problems had recalled for defective cruse control cable. I looked at my car's cruse control actuator cable and found it's connector had sliped off the throttle connection point. I now have a temporary fix to keep it from interfering with the throttle. This could have caused an accident and hurt somebody.

57 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

I was driving on the highway when the engine started to race, and I had to drive twenty miles to the mechanic's garage, barely being able to stop the car and nearly missing being in 3 accidents. Had to drive with my foot on the brake and had to use emergency brake to stop it at the end. When I put it in park, it sounded like the engine would explode, it was racing so fast. Mechanic saw a cruise control cable detached, and reconnected it, and "played" with the throttle and was finally able to bring it down to normal level. I checked at this site to see if there was a recall, but did not see one, but many complaints of this problem.

58 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/24/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while she drove up an incline the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The local mechanic performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the cruise control clip attached to the throttle body failed. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer disconnected the cruise control cable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 166,000.

59 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the vehicle surged forward and the engine rpms revved up. The vehicle could be restarted but the failure persisted. The failure occurred on two occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the cruise control cable clip needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 95,787.

60 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph and making a turn, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration. In order to stop the vehicle, the gear lever was shifted into the neutral position and the brake pedal was engaged forcefully. The failure recurred four times after being repaired under a voluntary recall issued by the manufacturer. The remedy consisted of replacing the accelerator pedal cable clip. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000. The VIN was unavailable.

61 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2008 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/13/2014

Had cruise control set to on position, I accelerated to pass a car, then the acceleration continued on even though my foot was off of accelerator pedal. The car continued to speed rapidly with the engine revving even though my foot was pressed hard on the brake. I was able to slow the car down to 60 with my foot pressed hard on the brake. Unfortunately there was traffic around me and I did not have the ability to control the speed of the car. I had to move onto the road shoulder to avoid hitting the car ahead of me. Luckily the paved shoulder of the road was grated and somehow caused the car to stop (intermittent acceleration 3x), and then coming to a complete stop. Upon explaining this to my father, he wonders if the acceleration cable stuck when I initially attempted to pass a car and then shook loose and became unstuck when driving over the grated road - not sure. I was glad to make it out of that situation alive but need your assistance in how to proceed with this problem. My father called a Ford dealer mechanic and they want to charge for a diagnostic and repair. I feel that this should not be our responsibility as this is possibly a manufacturer defect that should be taken care of by Ford. Please advise me. Thank you for your time.

62 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

Vehicle unexpectedly gained speed while backing out of driveway causing collision with mailbox before car could be braked to stop. Prior to this the vehicle speed would remain constant when foot was removed from accelerator pedal while driving at approximately 35mph then the car gained speed on its own. Vehicle was able to be brought under control by braking even as the idle surged. Vehicle was taken to autonation Ford of katy where they diagnosed "rolling idle from proportioning valve leaking at back of intake" as the cause. Work was not performed because our son who happened to be in town saw that the cruise control cable had become detached from the throttle. My son reattached the cable and there have not been any further issues with a stuck idle or unattended acceleration.

63 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

I was driving through downtown when I noticed increases acceleration and trouble with stopping. When I put my car in park, it would rev up to 2500 pm. I would stomp on accelerator and it brought it down to normal below 1000 rpm in park. Thankfully I avoided having 3 accidents. I was about to call for a truck truck but did not. I managed to drive my car back to work. My CO-worker looked at it and saw the throttle was sticking and cruise control cable came off. He was able to reattach it and fix the throttle. A week after he fixed it I started to have some acceleration issues but minor and today it finally got worse. I looked on here to see if other people having the same issue and yes I did find a lot of people with same issues. I do agree with a lot of those people that this should be a recall. I can't afford to get it fixed by a professional or a new car.

64 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

I own a 2007 Taurus se with about 90,000 miles. The cruse control stopped working last week and I turned it off. On at least four occasions in the last week, since then I have had unexpected, uncontroled acceleration while driving that could easily resulted in an accident. When the acceleration happened , I got the car off the road steped on the brake as hard as I could, the car ran up to 3to 4000 rpm before I could shift to neatral and turn off the ignition after the the incident yesterday afternoon ; I took the car in to eckenrod Ford in cullman, alabama. They gave me a loaner car while they are fixing mine. I see that you have had several complaints of the same thing happening in this year and model and recommend a recall or at least a service bullitin, to deal with this problem. In researching this problem a lose cruise control cable may be causing this problem. The prblem is danerous and disconcerting and should be addressed.

65 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

About a month ago while driving on the freeway, after accelerating, the vehicle wanted to keep accelerating. I maintained speed by braking. I pumped the gas pedal a few times which seemed to fix the issue. This occurred a few more times over a months period. The beginning of July 2014 the same thing happened but pumping the gas was ineffective. I braked and pulled off the road. I put the vehicle in park which made the rpms go quite high and then shut the engine off. I looked under the hood and found a cable disconnected going to the throttle which I believe is part of the cruise control. I reconnected the cable and was able to drive home. Today I went to the Ford dealer to discuss the issue. They gave me the contact info for Ford owner and I opened a case. Ford said there is currently no recall for this issue. Currently the car seems ok but the problem is intermittent and im not sure if the cable will disconnect again. Incident was a bit nerve racking but could have been serious if I needed to bake quickly.

66 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

2006 Ford Taurus. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle acceleration issues. The consumer stated he experienced three terrifying incidents, in which the vehicle suddenly accelerated. He came very close to running over pedestrians, each time the vehicle accelerated. After, paying hundreds of dollars, to replace the air control valve, which wasn't the problem, it was finally determined the cruise control cable was causing the vehicle to suddenly accelerate.

67 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

Have owned this car for 1 week. While replacing the spark plugs, found the cruise control cable was not connected to the throttle, which explained why the cruise didn't work. Reconnected the cable. On a test-drive, had the cruise set at 50. In testing the 3 right-side cruise buttons (resume, set, coast) the car accelerated past 65 on its own. "off" button and brake pedal did not disconnect cruise system. Rode the brakes to a stop and shut the engine off. Started the engine and it revved up to 3,000 without my foot on the pedal. Engine returned to normal idle speed after a blip or two on the gas pedal. Carefully drove home and checked - the cruise cable had come undone from the throttle again. Unintended acceleration of this model should be a recall issue before someone gets hurt.

68 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

I was driving along and all of sudden my car felt like an out of body experience and was accelerating faster than I was going. I was able to come to a stop after applying the brakes very hard. Shut the car off - started it again 2 different time and the tachometer went up to 3 rpm - on the third try I tapped the gas pedal and the rpm's came down. I drove home (approx. 8 miles) safely without any further incidents. I took it to the dealer the next day - I told them what had occurred and I also mentioned that my cruise control was not working. (this is the third time I had trouble with my cruise control) they are replacing the throttle control body and speed control cable. I am now waiting to hear from them to pick up my car. What I don't understand is this - if it is known there is a problem with the gas pedal sticking why has there not been a recall. Are you waiting until some serious accident occurs or for a fatality? I am just glad I was not on a congested highway when this happened - it was 9:00 pm at night on my way home after visiting my sons and believe me when I say I was quite upset and shaking when this occurred. I never want to experience something like this again. I wish your association would look into this further so it can be rectified. Thank you for your time and attention to this submittal.

69 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

Throttle body/cruise control cable needed replaced for the second time. Car accelerated w/o pushing the gas up to 30 mph. This is the second time I have had to have it fixed for the same issue.

70 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/03/2014

Throttle sticks at cruising speed, and won't release without kicking accelerator pedal. Cruise control cable causing throttle not to return to idle position when letting off accelerator pedal! car maintained speed if not slowed by braking without cruise control activated. Removed cruise control cable and throttle works fine, however Ford dealer wants to replace throttle body for $400 and not replace cable? this same vehicle also has an intermittent hard shift problem with the transmission between 1st and 2nd gear approx. 5% of the, but runs fine the rest of the time, dealer says it would need to replace the entire transmission for $3300 but vehicle is now valued around that!.
