Abs and brake lights come on intermittently. I applied the brakes heavily and all 4 wheels locked up. The vehicle was uncontrollable while braking. The speedometer is erratic. The battery is dead sometimes after sitting overnight. The hazard lights come on by them selves. The door locks do not work properly. The tire indicator lights come on for no reason.

Driving down the road everything shut down until the gas was pressed and then it all came back on. . . Called several places and no one can tell me what is wrong.

Neighbor came by early and told me the brake lights were on. I went out to inspect but didn't see them on. Got in the car an hour later and noticed smoke and horrible "electrical" smell. I checked the entire car, but found nothing, when I went to start it, the battery was dead. Had my friend give me a jump, hooked up cables and sat in the Windstar for a minute, I then heard crackling and immediately smelled smoke. Under closer examination I found it was the center, upper brake light assembly completely melted, bulbs were contorted. Had the assembly replaced with a Ford part from dealer, three days later it happened again, so I removed bulbs before it completely melted. The center "third" brake light does not shut off, even when car is off, 12, strong volts to bulb socket, on or off! left and right brake lights work fine. . . For now. I have no doubt my car would have completely been destroyed, had it not been for the battery going dead.
I own 2000 Ford Windstar. The paint is flanking off the roof really bad it has some spots rusted and some is gray even in the back and front. I just replaced the hood from a junk yard. My speedometer keeps going crazy and when trying to get out of park the park and revers part broke because it got stuck with the rpm and that broke too. I have to keep the fuse unplugged that goes to the interior lighting do to battery dead by the next day.

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar that was just cleared from the serv. Dept Ford dealership about the abs and od warning lights flashing (they said due to a blown fuse). Now the lights are back on, the remaining dash lights are going crazy and the headlights are cutting off while driving down the road. Went to start the car from work and the battery is dead. These lights come on when the van heats up or hits a bump. I have small children and work third shift so this problem needs to be corrected before something serious happens as a result in faulty equipment.

I have a 2003 Ford Windstar. My brake light and abs light never turn off. My warning that the door is open is always on as well so my interior lights stay so my battery dies. My head lights turn on and off as well.
I purchased a used 2000 Ford Windstar lx in September 2009. From the first day, the abs light was on and we have had consistent problems with our brake lights and cruise control. Sometimes our cruise control works, sometimes not. Sometimes it suddenly stops working as well. We never thought of it as a big deal as cruise control isn't a necessity. However, our brake lights randomly come on while driving and while parked and not running with no key in ignition. We have had several incidents where the battery was dead because we were unable to get the brake lights to turn off. I also have been near rear-ended by cars following for long distances. Since I am driving with my brake lights on, when I actually use the brakes, the driver behind me cannot tell the difference. I have just had my scds replaced at a Ford dealership today. They denied any connection with the problems. My abs light still comes on and the brake lights as well. I am going to visit another dealership and bring all the recall paperwork with me.
Brake lights come on when vehicle is off and they will stay on after you remove your foot from the pedal. We have had the brake pedal switch replaced 2 times already and it keeps happening. If the lights come on in the middle of the night (has happened several times), the van will not start in the morning. This remains an ongoing problem which the repair shop can not fix and recommended that we file this report. This has been going on for the last couple of years. The van sometimes smells hot inside if we catch it before the battery goes dead. I'm not sure what to put for the approximate incident date so I will put today's date since it did it again today.
2001 Ford Windstar sport se # drove vehicle 2 hours, parked car for approx 2 hrs, returned and then unable to start vehicle, battery would fail then car needed jumped. This happened 3 times. Turn car on, abs yellow light, e-brake red light on constantly when driving (intermittent) and will go off when car is turned off. Cruise control does not work any longer. Pulling e-brake from floor does not trigger red e-brake light. Looked behind air filter, brake fluid saturated on abs brake module and wiring below the brake pressure deactivation switch, leaking coming from the brake pressure switch. Looked at the switch under drivers side door (below car), verified sticker on cover (next to abs ecm module) indicated Ford (kelsey-hayes). Checked fuse #10 & #14 (was not blown). The failure lights continue to come on sporadically. Ford needs to make this a recall on the Windstar. . Why is it that this is a recall on other Ford vehicles with the same parts and failures. This is a huge fire safety hazard. Please make Ford make this a recall.
My vehicle has had the brake light, the check engine light, the abs light on at all times and the over drive light is blinking and now the odometer is blank. We have taken the van into the Ford dealership and they have no idea what to do. The brakes squeal and the battery dies often.
Purchased a used van from local dealer. It has a dvd player already installed (not factory installed). Approx. 6 months later, I complained to service assoc. While getting an oil change, that my radio does not get stations clearly. Maybe there's a problem with the antennae. He said, "it's a Ford thing" in 2005 I told same service assoc. That the 'door is ajar' light keeps coming on. The trunk. Hatch light comes on and stays on even when back is closed. And the interior lights go on and off. And the dvd player no longer worked. He said it could be the contacts, and he would clean them but there's 'no guarantee". The next service check, I told him that the lights stay on after the doors are closed and I 'm afraid my battery will go dead. Also that the power locks now go on and off while driving around. I was told that it was probably an electrical problem but that it was not under any warranty and it would be very costly,it could take hours and hours of looking for the problem and it may never be found. I went home and my husband purchased and changed the contact thing for the back door. The light for that back hatch then stopped staying on when the door was closed. I was very concerned about the locks going up and down while driving my three small children around. How could I know if the locks were engaged or not??? if there is a 'short; could a fire start?? I called the Ford CO. Consumer number, explained my problems and the rep. Just told me that "there is no recall for those problems with that van". I said I was afraid for my children's safety, not knowing if the doors were locked or open. When repeated her statement and said to take it to the dealer at my expense. It is now 2008, my locks continue to go up and down while driving randomly, I have to turn all the interior lights off and leave them off, already replaced a battery, back door is open light still stays on!! please advise me!! I am quite frustrated and nervous about this vehicle.
Consumer has experienced several problems with the transmission, dealer has replaced it once, however problems continue, consumer has filed for a request for arbitration, vehicle bucks, jerks, and jumps into gear before taking off. Vehicle shimmies from one side to another upon acceleration, there is a thumping sound heard also at times while driving. Vehicle experienced a speed sensor circuit problem. Speedometer jumps. Problem with power steering, dealer adjusted rack and pinion and made other repairs to steering mechanism. Right side brake light bulb failed. Battery failed. Consumer stated it felt as if vehicle was going to stall sometimes, engine has no power at acceleration, engine belt was noisy and was replaced. Tire had a slow leak due to loose tire valve.

When I first purchased my vehicle, the battery was dead and had to be jump-started. After that, on a regular basis, my battery would lose its charge. On 12/15/00 the battery was replaced. Since I purchased the vehicle the airbag light has been coming on intermittently. Sometimes it flashes, other times it stays on, I can be driving and it will come on all of a sudden and later it will go off. The sliding doors sometimes pop back open when I close them. The driver's side door doesn't always open when I push the button. The passenger side door sometimes sounds like its not completely closed. It looks like it's closed on the outside, but rattles going over bumps or around corners. This problem particularly scares me because I have a child sitting in the seat next to that door. I am also afraid that the airbag is going to deploy while I am driving the car. I have brought my van in to the dealership on 3 different occasions and each time they said that they could not duplicate the concern. The last time they had my van for 4 days.
Power sliding door would intermittently open while driving, or will not open when needed; vehicle been in the dealer shop on six occasions, and problem still occurring. . Consumer also states back seat collasped backwards, also battery dead from shorts in the wiring, light in the inside is on when it should be off , and also doors that may or maynot operate while vehicle is in motion, also getting false signals on instrument panel.
