Dashboard Failed Problems of Ford Windstar

The instrument cluster gauges start dancing back and forth, then the tach gauge maxed out and stuck under the shift indicator. I went to a Ford dealer in fort wayne in. And they removed the cluster and broke off part of the tach needle so it cant become stuck again. Still to this day (a year later) the gauges start dancing and sometimes freeze in a position. Once it showed I was doing 80 mph while stopped at a stop light. Some days they work then other times they dont. I recently found out this is a common problem with Ford Windstars. Look up dancing gauges Windstar on utube and see all the issues people show. If this is such a big issue why isnt something being done about it? respectfully, keith coyne.

Ecu module for abs is shorted out and causes gauge cluster to short out. This causes abs light & brake light to turn on and all gauges stop working and they jump around . This was diagnosed by Ford dealership in WI. Said brake fluid leaks in to ecu and shorts out wires . Told me . $2000. 00 to fix . These problems are a safety issue . Abs and speedometer and gauges don't work . Should be a recall .

Abs light continues to come on intermittently. No immediate affect on braking until used hard. Then rear brakes lock-up immediately. Sliding doors will not open using overhead control. Locks do not 'un-lock' when unlock is depressed. Child protective door locks are off, and still the sliding doors will not operate from inside handle. The only automatic function that operate on the sliding doors is the 'close door' button on both sides. Exterior handles do not open the door until the locks are manually/physically forced into the unlock position. Dahboard lights and gauges go out-of-control randomly. Speedometer goes from 0 - overspeed, tachometer does the same as well as fuel and temp.

After purchasing from a dealer in oct of 2010 the abs light, check traction control light, brake light and air bag light started coming on intermittently. Had the vehicle serviced in mi for the axle recall. Was without the vehicle and had loaner car for 2 months. After getting vehicle back the lights were on more consistently the dealership noted this but did not offer any reason found for this. By summer of 2011 these lights were staying on almost constantly and this continued for a year, after investigating this issue online and seeing that other owners have invested hundreds of dollars trying to get the lights to go off and stay off only to have them keep coming back on we have decided to file a complaint as this issue is not a simple fix and obviously is happening in hundreds of vehicles. Our problem has progressed to where the speedometer and odometer go wildly up and down while driving at highway speeds and we are never sure of our speed. The lights on the dash go out and the power to door locks, radio and a/c power is lost as well as the blinkers for lane changes. This vehicle is very unsafe but we need it as we have 5 children and can not afford to buy a new one. The power window on passenger side as well as the power sliding doors do not work. When this issue happens if their happened to be an electrical fire because of it, we would be unable to exit the vehicle because the doors are locked and the knobs on the interior of this model are flush into the door when the vehicle is locked and can not be manually pulled up. With children, this is a very serious safety concern. Please please investigate this issue with the Ford Windstar. I have also contacted for with my complaint and they only would say there are no recalls on this issue right now but to save my receipts should I try to get it fixed in case one is issued in the future.

Abs light comes on intermittently, not sure if they work after this. I have had it to the repair shop repeatedly to have the brakes and sensors inspected. This vehicle also leaks from the speed control module, instrument cluster dies, air conditioning fails due to control module shorts, fuses blow, suspension and rot issues.

I have a 1999 Ford Windstar and my entire dash has gone out except for my airbag light. This includes my speedometer, odometer, my rpms, and my gas gauges.

While driving home one night headlights, and signal lights stopped working (lights in back continued to function) odometer stopped illuminating, and message panel displayed inconsistently. Abs light came on randomly at times, and eventually, the speedometer stopped working. After several hours of labor tracking down the problem, the g. E. M. Module was replaced (at great cost). After replacing the g. E. M. Module, it became apparent that the instrument cluster was bad and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, these parts are on backorder and our only car has now been in the shop for more than two weeks and nobody can give us any idea when the part will be available and when the car will be repaired. Furthermore, the Ford dealership where our car sits in an undrivable state (the repair department told us that there is a risk of fire if we were to drive it) told us that there are three other Windstars there waiting for the same part, and agreed with us (off the books) that considering the quantity of problems they are seeing with the instrument cluster there should have been a recall.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. While driving at an unknown speed, the emergency brake and abs lights illuminated on the instrument panel. In addition, the speedometer and odometer gauges blanked out and other gauges began to sporadically flash simultaneously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a diagnostic was performed. The failure codes indicated that the braking system was faulty due to water or fluid entering the abs connector. Brake fluid was found leaking onto the abs module as well as fluid build-up in the connector. The abs module and pump were replaced. The dealer also attempted to reprogram the abs module, but was unsuccesful. The VIN was unable to be entered into the system. The current and failure mileages were less than 123,000.

When driving the brakes went straight to the floorboard, and the brake light came on. Conumer had to pump the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. Also, when applying the brakes there is a loud noise. The brakes had been replaced three times. Dealer told the consumer that brakes have to be replaced every year. Consumer stated that there is another safety problem involving the electricalsystem. The lights keep coming on , as well as the light's on the dashboard keep coming on. In addition, gas gauge failed to indicate the proper amount of gas left in the tank.
