Cruise control deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid, which caused a fuse to blow resulting in lose of some speedometer, mileage, and heating/cooling system. This has been checked out, evaluated, and documented by a certified mechanic. The mechanic has since disconnected the cruise control.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. Whenever the contact depresses the brake pedal while driving, the brake light fuse malfunctions. As a result, the exterior brake lights fail to illuminate. In addition, whenever the contact uses the door unlock and lock buttons, the power lock fuse malfunctions. There were no warning indicators prior to the failures. The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The cruise control and the abs light were flashing. The dealer stated that the fuse that controls the abs light and the cruise control were faulty as well as a leak in the master cylinder. A year after the fuse was replaced, the abs light began flashing again and the gas gauge was not working properly. The transmission also began to fail. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. The contact is aware of the safety risk since the failure could potentially cause a crash. The current mileage was 124,545 and the failure mileage was unknown.
The consumer stated the # 10 fuse keeps shorting out. The shifter can be shifted without the brake being applied when the key is in the on position. The consumer stated this fuse controls this safety feature along with other things. The dealer and manufacturer have not been contacted yet. A garage told the consumer this was an ongoing problem.

While driving down the interstate, moving at a speed of 65 mph, the fuse (10)controlling the speed control module, abs module, brake shift interlock solenoid, powertrain control module, etc. Etc. Blew. Instantly, I had no speedometer, abs light came on and my rear a/c began blowing on its own. I have since replaced #10 fuse and it has blown repeatedly. Since this past Friday, I have also learned that my cruise control is no longer functioning. I have done the research and have found from my fellow Ford lemon owners, that this is not an uncommon occurance. I will be replacing the cruise control switch and/or brake pressure switch (which is located by the master cyclinder; which commonly seems to have a short in the circuit due to the wonderful job Ford did designing their vehicles.
The consumer stated 2000 Ford Windstar was having multiple problems. The fuses blew out, the lights were blinking on and off, and the odometer/speedometer werenot working. The mechanic that looked at the car suggested that it may be an electrical problem. While driving the lights wereblinking on and off. Consistently, kept the dashboard not illuminated. They have even tried to leave the air off to see if this would help the fuses not to blow out. There were lights on the dashboard that when lit up wthe fuse blew out. . The abs light came on when the fuse blew out. The rear defroster didn't work nor did the rear air vents. This was not a safety condition for the owner to be traveling with child who has major health issues. The owner has not taken the van to the dealership because she could not afford the cost of labor and service charges. The owner has had a small problem contacting the Ford manufacturer, but that was now resolved. She was planning on contacting them today. The driver's side door will not lock or unlock with the remote. The cruise control was not working.
The vehicle kept blowing fuses, and caused the transmission to mallfunction. The manufacturer refused the claim. The heater would make a thump noise inside and would not heat, the third light blew fuses and could not be shifted out of park, there was no out put from the abs relay, there was possibly an intermittent short in the switch, the abs light stayed on, the short was traced to the deactivator switch, leaking fluid into the switch.
I have a 1999 Windstar, with electrical problems. That are unresolved after 3 weeks in two different garages. The number 10 fuse keeps blowing. So I have no heat, or air, will not open back doors and a number of other things. It is winter and I can't drive it without heat. And will not be fun in the summer with no air. The air won't work with the fuse blown. It blows, even when all of the things, listed in the book are disconnected. It still blows.
Driver side sliding door does not open and close all the time. This has been reported three times to the repair shop and all repair attempts have failed to date. Over the 18 month period we have owned the vehicle, we have had the drivers power seat repaired, multiple electrical shorts fixed, vcp system repaired twice, as well as several other more minor electrical issues fixed. The quality of this 2002 Ford Windstar limited has been very poor.

Vehicle stalled in heavy traffic forcing the consumer to pull over and change the fuse. (nar).
While driving at 60mph a brake light flashes. Consumer is unable to read light, then vehicle shuts down.
Passenger power door unlatches while driving, specifically around corners. Slow speeds-pulling out of parking lots. Door is also not shutting. Must be physically closed. Interior lights flash on an off while in a parked position with key in ignition. Clicking sound from turn signal comes on sporadically even though turn signal is not engaged.
When vehicle received from dealer, the rear a/c -heater unit fan inop. Dealer reported "replaced fuse". 4 weeks later rear heater, a/c unit again inop. Due to lack of faith in dealer abilities, owner repaired fault. Found 60 amp current limiter blown. Traced fault to main power wire between fuse block and a/c control panel chafed/burned to chassis weld point located under carpet by drivers left foot rest. Wiring repaired, weld point ground flush, 60 amp current limiter replaced.

Fuse controlling onboard computer and ingnition system fails randomly without warning. Engine stalls as a result and all power to brakes and steering is lost as well. This has happened five times since the middle of may 2002. Twice on the highway and once in the middle of an intersection. We have taken this vehicle to three different mechanics, including a Ford dealer (kerry Ford, 165 kemper road, cincinnati, ohio 45246 (513)671-9900). None can replicate the problem. Kerry Ford said all they can do is start replacing parts (at the cost of several thousand dollars) based on their best guess and hope it fixes the problem. I've called Ford customer service and they have refused to pay for any of the repairs because the vehicle is out of warranty. Pleas that the safety of my family is involved fall on deaf ears. Frankly, we do not have several thousand dollars to put into this car hoping that it will fix the problem. Moreover, I can't sell the vehicle without disclosing this problem and putting someone else's family in danger. We are left with a car that is too expensive to fix and worth absolutely nothing. The manufacturer is unresponsive. We have nowhere to turn. Any help would be appreciated.
