He stated that the cruise control failed prior to receiving the recall notice and the vehicle caught fire. Prior to the fire the dealer stated that they would need perform a diagnostic test. Ford confirmed that the switch should be repaired without diagnostic testing. There have been no repairs. The failure is directly related to NHTSA campaign id number 09v399000, vehicle speed control. Poor design, placing electrical connection under master cylinder, filled with brake fluid. Caused instrument panel to malfunction, including no speedometer, and left the abs & brakes warning light on steady. The connecter that got wet from the fluid is charred. This is definitely a fire hazard.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated. He added brake fluid to the vehicle and drove it for approximately one week before the failure recurred. The dealer inspected the vehicle and found nothing wrong. Three weeks later, the contact located a brake fluid leak at the end of the master cylinder. The brake fluid destroyed the wiring for the electrical system, causing the instrument panel to fail. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 150,000 and failure mileage was 140,000.
