Purchased new in 2003. This vehicle has electrical problems and yet we are being told that we have to eat the financial bills instead of Ford. From sensors failing, to interior lights flashing at us, and the vehicle sputtering while we drive down the road. Ford knows that the 1999- 2003 Windstar have serious safety and electrical failures, yet they do not want to correct the problem at their cost. Ford would rather pass on their problems onto the consumer and at the consumer's cost. 2013 at our cost of $1,000. 00+ we replaced the coil assembly pack, egr system with brackets, oxygen sensors, spark plugs, and wires. Now we are replacing them again. The abs system, the traction control, and the cruise control all interwoven and all failed in 2009 and we were told that it is not important by the dealerships. We placed our obd scanner on our vehicle and this is what we pulled. P0302, p0305, p0316, c1235, c1185, c1198, c1194, c1254, c1246, c1250, c1242, c1214, c1210, c1103, c1410, c1404, b1318. We were told by many "service departments" a while back that these codes were not important. They cleared the codes every time. Their response to these codes were to clear them every time. Why are we having to replace the coil assembly packs, wires, egr system with brackets, oxygen sensors, and plugs so often, when we are being told that these platinum plugs and wires should last 150k? we honestly believe that Ford should have recalled this vehicle years ago. Ford should compensate us for our troubles, instead they increased our financial burden, and Ford should have placed us into a safer vehicle all at their cost. This is our only vehicle. When it fails, we have to pay thousands to get it repaired at our cost. Ford should take on the financial responsibility when they know that this vehicle has these issues. Major repairs= 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, and now 2015.

I never knew about Ford's recalls until last March. Before calling Ford I did research and found numerous people have the same problems as me. Mine started in 2012 when out of the blue the front windows would no longer open. Next when you tried to put the heat on in the rear there was strange noise and now I'm to afraid to use it. The past 3 yrs the gauges go haywire. Sometimes if you hit the dash it'll stop but locks up and you don't know what your speed is. If I leave it alone sometimes it will stop on it's own but locks up to wherever it stops at. On numerous occasions the abs light will come on. For over 2 yrs now the check engine light has been on. I had it checked & was told it was the O2 sensors for which I replaced, 3 days later the engine light came back on again they said it was the O2 sensors. In the past 2 1/2 yrs I've had to replace the battery because while driving the battery light will come on. If I accelerate it goes off but nobody knows why the battery keeps dying. Some say its an electrical problem draining the battery. The interior lights will come on for no reason so I had them removed as I thought it might be draining the battery. Last summer out of the blue the a/c started making a noise and just quit just like a month ago I heard this clicking noise only to find out I had no heat. I spoke to Ford about the gauges, the electrical problems, the a/c and some of the other issues and their response was it wasn't on their recall list and would only fix the rear axle, cruise control and the front if there was anything wrong. When I mentioned all the info I found on NHTSA's site about this vehicle I was told they have no control over what is fixed. I am disabled and am living in a place for the homeless & with all these problems how does Ford expect me to fix their defects? every time I have to drive which isn't often I pray I make it to & from safely.

Every since I purchased my '02 Windstar, I have had problems with the abs and brakes. I've had the brakes fixed numerous times and both lights still comes on while I'm driving. I had a brake fluid leak from the rear. My dvd and stereo both short- circuited on a month or two after they were installed. Sometimes if I come to a light to stop for a while, when the light turns green, I'll try to give it some gas but it becomes real hesitant and takes a while to pick up speed. The drivers behind me would start to get frustrated with me holding up traffic. Also, when I cut the ac on it takes power away from my vehicle and it threatens to cut off, so I don't turn it on. I also have to replace two oxygen sensors on it. I believe that my abs module is bad as well. I feel that I am putting more money into it than it's worth. Please help me.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the electrical components of the doors failed. The check engine and tire pressure warning light were also illuminated. The contact replaced the battery and the tires. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the dealer advised the contact that the 02 oxygen sensor would need replacing. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted and provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 101,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.
My brakes are working fine. But my abs light keeps coming on for the past year. Prior to this, I had my oxygen sensor replaced. There is no definite movement that proceeds the light coming on, it can happen when I hit a bump, or when I simply drive along. It is becoming more and more recurrent. I was told it would be over $1,000 to replace, although the brakes were recently replaced, this did not remedy the problem.
I have a 2002 Ford Windstar lx. Just this past January the lights have started to turn on. My abs light, engine light, brake system light. There are 12-13 codes that show up for my brakes when diagnosed on the computer. I have new brakes all around, new rotors, new drums and when I go to stop the car squeals like a bus and grinds as though I have no brake pads at all. Shop says the only place I can go to get that fixed is the dealer where it will cost me about $1500 to fix. Who has that kind of money laying around? my engine light goes on because of supposedly some module inside the engine. That was estimated at $350+ to get fixed. The module supposedly is the reason why when the car is diagnosed on the computer, that it shows I have two bad O2 sensors. All I can say is wow!!! these Windstars are pure junk!!!.
O/d off light flashes all the time, vehicle smells like fuel when shut off no one can tell me whey engine light will not go out. Oxygen sensor has been changed. Van has a short no one can find it putter and cut off all the time its drivable around town that's it runs too long it shuts off if a/c or heat is on too long it makes a groaning noise and will not stop until shut off vehicle then restart. Everyone that looks at it say its a Ford issue local dealer said nothing is wrong with van.
