1 Trunk Wiring problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/22/2012

The Windstar was parked in our driveway outside. Engine cold and turned off. Our son saw smoke outside coming from the engine compartment. We raised the hood carefully and put fire out with fire ext. And garden hose. Fire was under the brake master cylinder on the drivers side engine compartment. Wiring harness burned and other components by speed control deactivation switch catching fire. We had this switch replaced in a Ford recall, but appears the repair was done incorrectly (fuse installed on wrong side of wiring harness, allowing the switch to remain hot). So fortunate that the car was not parked in the garage, for I would not be writing this review today!.

2 Trunk Wiring problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

Abs light followed by fuse blowing and loss of dash light and all instruments(speedometer and odometer) power windows and sliding door not functioning. Occurred 6 times - replaced fuse each time. Last incident, fire occurred on the wiring just below and attached to the master cylinder. Wiring harness completely melted exposing the bare wires which were melted together. At this time separated the wires and taped each wire individually. And secured wires to the side wall of the engine compartment.

3 Trunk Wiring problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/15/2008

Sending unit under front of brake master cylinder leaks. Corroded wiring harness of transmission causing erratic operation and a warning message about the transmission. Could have caused an engine compartment fire or a locked up transmission while driving.

4 Trunk Wiring problem of the 1996 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

Problem: power seat wiring short circuit from engine compartment main fuse and relay panel, 60 amp fuse repeatedly blows. Problem was first intermittent, then after second fuse change change, short circuit became continuous. Wiring is shorted out between the main fuse panel and the power seat connector. Power seat itself has no electrical problem. Model has a NHTSA recall history: 1995: wiring-harness insulation can abrade on a brace between instrument panel and cowl, resulting in short-circuit and possible fire.
