3 Battery Dead problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

This all began at about 75000 miles. It first started with the stabilization/traction light coming on while driving once this happened you could not accelerate the car. I once was on a highway in the middle lane when it happened I could not accelerate and had to try to get over to the break down lane. This happened several times but then turned into a completely different problem. While driving the battery would start to die with no warning. When this happens you can not jump the car you have to bring the battery to be charged on a charger. Although the car won't start the other things like lights, radio, etc will still work. This happened several times but once the weather was warm it ran perfect for 4 months. The first day it was extremely cold the battery died while driving. I also had a headlight go out on the drivers side and about 3 weeks later it came back on and stayed on. I have brought it to several places but nobody has been able to figure out the problem. I can't keep spending money to get it diagnosed with no results. After researching online it seems to be a very common problem in the Acadia.

4 Battery Dead problem of the 2018 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/26/2019

When shutting the Acadia off it prompts a message saying must be in park. It is in park but computer is not recognizing it. This forces you to leave car running. If you dont then your battery will go dead. When speaking to local dealership they are aware of issue but dont know anything to resolve it. Customers shouldn't have to pay for this since it's a safety issue.

10 Battery Dead problem of the 2017 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

I purchased a new 2017 GMC Acadia on December 14th 2017. On October 11th 2018, my Acadia was rendered completely disabled by a what has been described by the dealership as a " dead battery" I was almost locked in the vehicle because the entire electrical system failed and the electronic locks would not operate. There was no previous indication, notification or warning by the vehicle and monitoring service or of an impending battery failure obviously, a 10 month old battery in a new car should not be completely drained after only 10 months of ownership ( leading me to believe there may be more at play than just a bad battery). Had this happened anywhere else besides my driveway, it would have been a major issue. The vehicle was then towed to the nearest authorized GMC repair facility. The dealership ran diagnostic tests of the electrical system and found nothing wrong, but this still leaves me with doubts about the reliability of the vehicle and integrity of the electrical system.

11 Battery Dead problem of the 2017 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

When you put the shifter into the park position and you try to turn off the vehicle with the start/stop button an on dash error code of shift to park appears even though the vehicle is clearly in park. You are not able to turn the vehicle off. It beeps incessantly, the battery remains on and the doors do not want to lock. GMC has been made aware of the issue by hundreds of 2017 Acadia owners however their engineers have not found a solution. This defect is forcing me to turn the engine on and off multiple times, trying putting the car in reverse and then shifting back in drive, wiggling the shifter, opening the rear passenger doors and repeating any and all of these processes until it eventually turns off the shift to park message and allows the vehicle to shut down (or if you can confuse the electrical panel and have another message pop up to override it, such as the one that says 'check rear passenger seat". I do not know if my car is ever truly in gear or not. I'm afraid that it might cause a dangerous situation where my vehicle rolls thinking it is not in park or the battery dies unexpectedly or the vehicle is stolen because it will not shut off or the doors will not lock. I bought this vehicle brand new and this started occurring at around 15,000 miles and is a highly reported problem that necessitates a recall fix for safety.

17 Battery Dead problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/12/2014

Various gm vehicles have a known defect that allows water from the sun roof drain to enter the passenger compartment and more importantly allows water to enter the passenger compartment fuse block. This defect is covered under service bulletin #08-08-57-003c. This vehicle has had numerous electrical system issues that only occur during heavy rains and the dealer has been unable to recreate the problem after things have dried out so to speak. Most recently after a heavy rain, the battery was dead and when replaced with a new battery, the engine would not shut off even after the key was removed. This is a serious safety concern that can result in injury or death. The only way to shut off the engine is to remove the ecm fuse from the under hood fuse block. Not being able to shut the engine off via the key can have serious life consequences in the event of an emergency. This is a wide spread issue that seems to get worse over time and ends up with not being able to shut the engine off. The gm models affected by the service bulletin as follows: 2008-2012 Buick enclave 2007-2012 GMC Acadia 2007-2010 Saturn outlook.

The battery on my GMC Acadia died on the 15th February and the dealer could not identify anything wrong with the vehicle. The following Monday the service air bag light came on and I was told the sensor was not working right and the parts were ordered. The Friday of 2/26 the check engine light was on and the vehicle would not accelerate above 50mph and half the gas tank was emptied in 25 miles. During that Friday the engine was still running even after I pulled the key out of the ignition. That same night the battery died and could not be jump started. The vehicle was inspected on 3/1 and the air bag sensors along with fuse box was replaced as water was leaking into the fuse box. All of this happened in the mileage range of 6800 to 7100 approximately. The dealer has replaced the fuse box and the vehicle is running fine so far.
