38 Electrical System problem of the 2021 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/17/2025

I have had nothing but issues with this vehicle from the day I purchased it. I should have been more leery of purchasing a vehicle with so few miles on it as a certified vehicle. First issue lift gate wouldn’t work. Had to have sensors replaced twice. Next was the purge valve sensor that has went bad 3 separate times. Then the crankcase vent sensor. Paid a fee for diagnostics, it was not repaired took it back when the engine light came back on, they replaced it without charging but I was advised it’s not covered under warranty. And most recently my check engine light came on yet again today now reading an issue with the engine cooling system. Unfortunately the dealer is so booked out, my only option is to drop it off and hope they can get it in by a cancellation or no show. Seems there are new issues ever 3-6 months with the car.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2021 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/11/2025

Vehicle gives, “driver assist reduced drive with care” warning randomly. Lane change will no longer work and engine light will come on. Problem is sporadic and does not stay active. Engine light will shut off after a day. Once vehicle is shut off cooling fan runs extremely loud and for a long period of time draining battery.

When vehicle is put into park I keep getting a "shift to park" message and cannot turn off my vehicle. I cannot lock the door.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2017 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/03/2025

After shifting to park and attempting to turn off my vehicle, I receive an “action required shift to park” error message. I’m assuming the vehicle is in park but I’m not certain and worry about it moving or rolling. It is difficult to get it to turn off by jiggling the shifter and turning the vehicle on and off. At times, I am not able to get it off and then the vehicle will not lock and the battery goes dead. According to my VIN there is not an active recall but brief internet search states there has been numerous reports, recalls, and lemon law returns due to this.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2021 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/02/2025

I was traveling in my 2021 GMC Acadia in which I have had numerous issues with is the almost 4 years I have owned it. The back up camera 2 weeks after purchase it went out in June of 2021. After that the vehicle in October of 2021 I get in the vehicle on rainy day. Infotainment systems reads error with the sd card that issue progressed I called dealer finally I get service appointment after strike and my vehicle sits at roger’s pontiac GMC 2660 michigan Ave chicago IL 60616 for 10 hours now I placed thread around the crowl and by knob. Car was not touched I was told it was a internal issue and that the gm engineers would need to replace the infotainment system they looked at it again in November of 2022 no closer to finding a problem I called GMC because by now my temperature coolant sensor was working then not working car would say reduced parking assist and then if hot air conditioning wouldn’t work I called GMC offices filed numerous complaints. They called the service manager no one would take calls nothing would get done. So [xxx]I’m driving down [xxx] heading east a big truck flys off of [xxx] slams into side of my SUV destroys every panel on passengers side of vehicle the Acadia mine with all the curtain air bags in the a pillar in ceiling on the front and back seats on top side and bottom side not one deploys not even on the a pillar where rear passengers door is ripped off. I was knocked out if anyone was in them 2 seats like my 2 kids that are always with me [xxx] they could have been killed no safety bags deployed? I basically begged for auto to be repaired of electrical issues when only 2000 miles on it with 900 miles on it GMC I called every week for almost 2 years no help now this! I was injured have not much memory of accident. This auto needs be taken off road I deserve like I asked for when new same car just without issues I could have been killed but no one cared. 49 Electrical System problem of the 2019 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/16/2025

Yes, my vehicle is available for inspection upon request. When I go to put my 2019 GMC Acadia in "park" the shifter states it is in park & the dashboard shows it in "p. " however, when I turn the vehicle off, an error message comes up reading "shift to park" and my car wont fully shut off. You can feel the car move forward or backwards a tiny bit (depending where vehicle is parked). This makes me have to turn the vehicle back on, shift into "drive," back into "park," and then shut the engine off and pray the "shift to park" display doesn't come up. This process was repeated this morning when I arrived at walmart 3x before it finally shut off, then when I got home it happened at least 8x before I could safely leave my car in my garage without the worry of it not truly being in park. This has gotten to the point I have bought wheel chalks to put around my car tires because I am afraid this vehicle could roll down my driveway into my neighbor's house or kill some kid playing in our culdesac. I let the last place I was at know & they told me GMC was aware of the issue, but that there was no way to fix it (auto revival in justin, TX). I am unsure as to whether this issue happened for them or not, as nothing was mentioned after being told GMC is aware. That was on January 10th, 2024. No one else has looked at it besides that. It seemed to be occurring less frequently for several months, and then now it is the worst it has ever been.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2016 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/23/2024

In March of 2022 the vehicle displayed a warning to service the side detection system. On March 31st 2022 the dealership diagnosed that the side blind zone alert module failed due to water intrusion. The replacement of the modular was completed free of charge under "campaign - n172097060 special coverage adjustment". In December of 2024 the same warning to service the side detection system was activated again, several weeks later the warning lights on the side view mirrors lite up and remained on. Upon bringing the vehicle on February 13th 2025 for service, in it was determined to be caused by the same failed part as the first occurrence. This time the repair was not covered by the dealer, and was 1099. 22. GMC has not solved the underlining problem with these parts. The side detection system is critical when driving a larger SUV for blind zone awareness to avoid collisions while driving in multi lane traffic. When the system failed, the lights on the side view mirrors made driving difficult due to the distraction and glare. Although this problem is known by the manufacture it has provided a permanent solution, as they continue to use the flawed original parts. Due to the sensor being electrical, there was no symptoms prior to failure; the warning appears and continued at each start up. The cost of repairing safety features on an ageing vehicle becomes a burden, especially when those features can only be repaired by a dealership at high prices. This keeps many people from maintaining or fixing their cars, putting others at risk. I have the modular from the most recent repair, and will include a photo if possible.

The contact was forced to shift from drive(d) to park(p) repeatedly before the failure was corrected. In addition, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would become sticky with the "steering assist reduced - drive with care," message displayed on the instrument panel. 57 Electrical System problem of the 2018 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/06/2024

The car is put in park but the it doesn’t detect that it’s in park and won’t turn off. You can’t get out of your car because the won’t turn off. There were no errors before this. I get an error message that says shift to park. I have to shift the car into drive and then park several times to make the car turn register that it’s in park the dealership has not looked at my car. Nothing has ever been wrong with my car. I have read online that it’s a problem for many people with arcadia vehicles .

58 Electrical System problem of the 2024 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/29/2024

I was driving and making a left turn at a traffic light when all of a sudden, every light lit up on my dashboard. Then the dashboard turned completely black along with the radio screen. When the dashboard went black, I tried to stop by hitting the brakes to pull over. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and I had zero brakes. I was able to coast to a dirt shoulder where the vehicle stopped due to friction and gravity. The brakes never worked to aid in stopping the motion of my vehicle. I had my vehicle towed immediately to the dealership where I bought it.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2023 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/26/2024

On 11/26/24 my wife was running errands in her vehicle when the power shut off and killed the car. She was in the left lane of a busy state highway. She was able to coast off the road slightly before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The dashboard said to press brake and start button, but the car would not start. The vehicle was also stuck in drive and would not switch to park, neutral, or any other gears. Police came and had to push her vehicle with theirs into a nearby park lot so a tow truck could pick it up. It is currently at a gm dealership waiting to be looked at.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2021 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/23/2024

While driving down the interstate at 70mph+, the instrument panel went black and restarted multiple times. The car continued to stay at a sustained speed, but I was unable to control anything or see how fast I was going. It appears as if the car has shut off, but it isn't. It also affects the lights. It has happened multiple times with no known cause. When I brought this up at the dealership, they said that it would be an $80 diagnostic fee and unless they can replicate the problem they can't do anything about it because it doesn't throw any error codes. There was another women in the dealership the same time as me with the exact same issue. No fix offered. Looking online and talking to others this seems like a common issue that GMC is ignoring.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2024 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/13/2024

This 2024 GMC Acadia will not back up safely on a rainy day. When moving backward, when it raining the emergency braking continually engage, approximately every two feet. Also others vehicle like this one are experiencing the same problem. This has been an ongoing problem since July 5, 2024 in rainy weather. I called gm customer service and have gotten no result. I don't know what to do. Can you all help us (please). Thank you all so very much.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2020 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/20/2024

The electrical, engine, and a/c systems failed. First our a/c stopped blowing cold. A warning light came up and said that driver assist was not working properly, and temperature gauge went all the way down to cold and did not move after that. It appears 3 things were malfunctioning. I was afraid to drive it for fear of burning up the engine due to an engine cooling malfunction and the car overheating. The a/c stopped blowing cold air but was still blowing warm air. The steering system alert was on the dash but wasn't an issue. I called onstar to diagnose the problem and they initially said they didn't see a problem but based on what I described it would be best to have it towed. I later got an email that an issue was detected, code p0128. I called my dealership and they also said to have it towed so they could check it. We were not in a position to have the car towed and for it to sit in the service department for 5 days (that was what their queue backup was like then). I took the car to a nearby shop to have it checked. Because I was afraid to drive it we I got it there by disconnecting the battery. A/c was blowing cold like arctic air and the temperature gauge went back to normal. We got it to the shop (a few miles away) and they could not duplicate the issue due to the battery disconnection "fix". They said the car would be temporarily functioning per usual but the problem will come back again soon and to bring it back when it happens. It happened 2 weeks later (2 hours from home/stuck in traffic). We found an auto parts store and bought a wrench to disconnect the battery again to get home and all was good once we did that "fix" again. We have a service appointment to have it repaired. Two quotes I got were for $1600 and $2200. Temperature sensors/thermostats were suspected to be the cause of the issue. The auto shop stated they frequently see this issue (p0128) with GMC vehicles in recent years, even when they are only a few years old. Ours is 4 years.

65 Electrical System problem of the 2019 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/16/2024

The "shift to park" error warning comes on even though the vehicle is in park. The vehicle will not turn off. I had this issue with my 2017 GMC Acadia. They tried to fix it once, but it came back. I see in the 2019 version that they have added an audible dinging to the warning. I would have thought after at least 2 years they would have resolved this issue. They just made it more annoying by adding the dinging.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2021 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/13/2024

Vehicle stalled on major interstate while giving no warning vehicle would not start after failure had to be towed to dealership found to be a faulty fuel pump module service advisor even said this is a common problem vehicle mileage was at 33,478 this could have been a deadly accident.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2019 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/12/2024

I would park my car and try to turn off car. The car would not turn off. The car continued to ding the car remained on. The safety issue is the car wouldn't turn off. After many many times shifting from park to drive it would finally park, this happened every time using the car. I discovered the same exact issue is a recall on 2017 & 2018 GMC Acadia our exact car ! called the dealer explaining shift to park issue. Brought the car to Buick GMC of mahwah they noted in fact it was shift to park issue. Two days later came in for the car they would not cover problem. Cost $950. 00 for exact recall the 2 years prior. Also, contacted GMC corp. They were no help just said had no recall. Our car is 2019 Acadia with 27,236 miles.

70 Electrical System problem of the 2024 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

I am filing a complaint about my 2024 GMC Acadia at4, leased brand new from frank's GMC in August 2024, now with a little over 8,000 miles. The brake pads are worn to 35% life, far below the expected 30,000-70,000 miles, with loud squealing, fluid leakage, and odors. This poses a severe safety risk to my family and others, as compromised brakes could fail. In October 2024, before my 3,000-mile oil change, I reported brake concerns to frank’s GMC service manager, javier, who advised waiting. After the November 2024 oil change and tire rotation, only three months after obtaining my vehicle, javier claimed no issues, despite my prior warnings. The problems worsened, with squealing, leakage, and odors persisting. My March 19, 2025, service appointment was delayed, calls ignored, and follow-ups never occurred. Sales manager khaled stated that owner frank confronted javier about avoiding service issues, yet no action was taken. I contacted ten GMC service departments in PA, CT, and MD; they reported similar at4 brake issues, some citing total brake failure. I spoke with gm corporate supervisors, who referred me back to the dealer. Frank’s GMC inspections overlooked my concerns. A local police department safety inspection unit confirmed the issues, but no manufacturer or insurance inspections occurred. The vehicle is available for inspection. I urge NHTSA to investigate this premature brake failure and ensure the 2024 Acadia at4’s safety. The email screenshot I included was sent in April. I contacted the same GMC dealerships that previously reported no issues to check for updates, and they confirmed a change. All of them now report the same problem with brake pads and/or brake failure. This issue is covered under warranty and should be replaced without issue, but dealers are not complying. If overlooked, this could become a national concern.
