Timing chain/belt. SUV is making a loud rattle when turning vehicle on. I got this issue "fixed" last yea right at 79,000 miles. Warranty paid for it. 20,000 miles late I am having the same issue again, rattle noise, engine light on, air bag light is on. It worries that this will be a major if it gives out while I am driving with my kids.

A/c compressor locked up and has burnt the belt to all pulleys. Was being driven down highway which caused power steering to stop making extremely difficult to steer almost in a crash.

The vehicle started with a miss in the engine and took it to our local GMC dealership and they told us it would need a new engine because of the timing belt and being out of time, said it would be $5000. So we wanted a second opinion and had it towed to my mechanic which is a ase certified mechanic and he said the same thing but he said he could just replace the timing belt and get it going and he replaced it but its still out of time and it cost $3250. The gm dealership knew of the problem and said it was a common problem with them and that the 2009 model was covered under the engine recall but not 2010 or newer even though they know about it. Had to end up buying another vehicle and still have the other one parked in the shed and cant drive it.

Took my car into garage because engine light came on and I almost stalled out multiple times before I made it to the garage. My car was trailing smoke. The code said the timing belt was affected. He said that usually means the whole engine needs replaced. My car just turned 80,000 miles. He said car engines last much longer than that, it should not have anything wrong with it. He told me that many gm motors are recalled, this model and age should've been recalled with as many customers he's seen in his shop with the same problem. I bought my car brand new in 2012, I know how it was taken care of. The engine should not be breaking down just as the payments came to an end. Do the right thing and recall the engines.

Owned the car for about a year with a 5 year, $20,000 loan attached to it. The car randomly started smoking and all kinds of warning lights went off on the way back from the store (about a mile away). I immediately pulled over and walked home, went back after a couple hours to let it cool down and it wouldn't start. I had it towed to the repair shop and it was deemed my car with around 80,000 miles on it had a blown engine due to something with belt (same issue 2009 model was recalled for) and it was going to cost out of my own pocket $7500 to replace it with a used engine with no guarantee that the replacement engine won't have the exact same issue. In the 3 weeks it took us to decide on if it was even possibly to come up with that much money, engine prices had rose another $500 because they are in such hot demand. Ended up having to let the bank repo it, ruining my credit, no vehicle to take my newborn twins to their doctor appointments, or anyway to get to work. GMC needs to be held accountable for not promptly responding to this defect instead of turning a blind eye. I cannot wait for the day a class action suit is filed.
Car has been serviced regularly. Engine was running smooth. Drove approximately 30 miles on hwy to work got off on city street and car started shaking bad. Pulled over into parking spot and engine cut off. Wouldn't restart. Called towing to our repairshop. The first cylinder spark plug was bent resulting in major engine failure due to timing belt stretch. Need a new engine and found that this is big problem with GMC engines. Bought the car less than a year ago and it currently has 138k miles. 7k to replace engine including labor. Wow mother of 3 kids and I'm still paying big payment for the car and insurance. . So many complaints about this issue I just found out with GMC covering the issue up and not being responsible.
I purchased a 2008 Acadia in November 2016. The seller stated that they had to order a airbag and replace the old one. Alone with the seat belt. I didn't get the car until a month later. When I got the Acadia it was making some whining noise, wouldn't crank back up, rattle and clatter, dragging in the transmission like driving in a certain gears, noisy in neutral. Airbag, seatbelt and stability traction control light continue to come on. Needed a alternator and now the engine gone. I been having problem's with the car since I got it, and it been only 13th months. We were driving twice and the vehicle shut down on us on the in-state. We had to get it pull back home. Several times driving on the main highway and street it wouldn't go in great. I don't photos at this time. I would have to wait until tomorrow, to go outside and take pictures. When I got the vehicle the left driving side tire light continue to come on, still having problem's with changing the tires left back and right front. Don't know how many miles was on there. I tried to place an x n the seat belt and unknown other space, but it wouldn't let me.

After picking up our new truck we noticed that the vehicle's engine was short jumping at low speeds, especially when in traffic - at first when this occurs you have to almost ask yourself did I hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes. After only a couple weeks of ownership we dropped off our new vehicle to be repaired. Dealer 's GMC certified technician had to consult with GMC corporate to help troubleshoot and then decided to replace the lower and upper engine valve covers, and the transmission control module; which was a quick fix that lasted a little over a week. Now our brand new vehicle is once again a lemon and repeating the original issue. After contacting GMC and after requesting another safer new vehicle since its common sense that a brand new truck should not have any internal engine or transmission problems being that we have a four year old, two year old, and a newborn, I am a concerned for my family's safety; GMC corporate response was "don't you think that 1 car in 300,000 would have an issue". . . At the end we are not talking about a loose belt or wheel out of balance, but an internal problem which there tech told my wife that he could not guarantee that the care was safe during his test drive. The dealer's manager response was "the car is not our problem when it leaves our lot", it then falls under the manufacture warranty; which makes sense, but once again we are talking about a brand new car, not a car that has some usage. Now twenty days in the shop and only 2,000 mile on the vehicle they decided to replace the transmission, but still can't tell us what is wrong with the vehicle; which now when braking on the highway it downshifts hard and almost feels like somebody rear ended you.

The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the coil and the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure occurred after the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v266000 (seat belts) and 14v118000 (air bags). In addition, the contact stated that the all the doors locked and unlocked sporadically and the battery failed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.
Since the day I drove my Acadia off the lot there has been a "click" that occurs which sounds like it is coming from the engine that can be felt under the gas pedal when the vehicle is about to shift into 2nd gear, but only immediately after starting the vehicle and never again when switching between 1st and 2nd gear until it has been turned off and restarted. The noise it makes sounds like a marble rolling on a wooden floor for about 1-2 seconds and then click and then the gear shifts. The dealer said they didn't hear anything but I do as well as other passengers do every day. Additionally, when turning the vehicle at a slow rate of speed and then accelerating, the engine slams into gear when between 10-15 mph but only after a turn and an attempt at acceleration. Also, my Acadia is not a vehicle under the "faulty gas gauge" recall however once my vehicle is below 1/4 tank the needle on the gas gauge will jump from 1/8 tank to 1/16, back up to 1/8 of a tank all while driving on flat roadways. Concurrently, the range for the fuel on the digital screen goes from 95 to 58 to 72 all while driving with cruise control on at a consistent speed. Lastly, the vehicle has the denali grill which leaves minimal airflow from the engine compartment. Up to three hours after turning the vehicle off (in a cool garage) you can still feel the heat coming from the engine compartment if you place your hand in front of the grill. Could this be a possible fire hazard? all of these issues began when I purchased the vehicle with 60 miles on it and continue now at 15,500 miles. I drive frequently and can tell you that I do not feel safe in my vehicle but am unsure what to do as the dealer has told me there is nothing wrong with it. The only recall for my vehicle is the seatbelt issue but I think there are serious engine problems with this vehicle that need to be addressed by gm.
My vehicle has completely shut off 4 times in the past 2 years while driving, thank god there was no accident. Also my power door locks have locked and unlocked repeatedly by themselves without pressing any button in vehicle or key fob. The locks will go up and down until I shut the car off and then restart. The locks has happened 6 times. Also, my electric power steering gear(rack) needed to be replaced at 30000 miles. There were 2 recalls one for airbags and one for seatbelts. This vehicle is unsafe and frankly dangerous, thank god it never shut off on a highway. I have brought it to two different GMC dealer service centers and they can not diagnose or recreate the problem which means they cannot fix these problems. I don't know if this is isolated to just my vehicle or this is a problem related to this particular model and year car. I do not feel safe driving this car, please help us. Thank you.

While driving, the vehicle started skipping/catching while accelerating and the temperature gauge started to creep up. I entered a left turn lane in order to pull over. When traffic cleared I attempted to accelerate to make it into the parking lot. Warning bells started going off "shut off engine" "shut off a/c" "enging overheat" and the truck shut off. I had picked up enough momentum as I had begun my turn but it was still literally a coast into the parking lot, narrowly avoiding a t-bone situation with an oncoming Mini van. It was so close the Mini-van laid on the horn and slammed on her brakes. I coasted into the parking lot but was unable to make it into a spot. I took out my keys and opened my door to get out. The alarms continued even without keys in it. There was antifreeze pouring out from underneath the vehicle. I had to turn on and off the car no less than three times to stop the warning bells. I called a local shop and had it towed. They replaced the water pump and a/c belt. Got my vehicle back two days later. Drove to work in the morning with no issues, however coming home it started to catch/skip again. (I live only 5 miles away from work). I had my husband drive it back up to the shop to have it looked at. When he got into it he was unable to reverse it; reverse just simply stopped working. He had to turn around in our yard - on the way to the shop (6 miles away) the vehicle would not go over 30 mph and again shut off on him while trying to turn into the auto shop. The diagnosis now is that it needs a new transmission. Upon further online research I have found thousands of other owners of the same model/make and year with the exact same issues occurring roughly around the same mileage/time frame. There are three other Acadias alone at our local gm dealership waiting to be fixed with the exact same issues.
In the rain or during wet road conditions the serpentine belt gets wet due to it's location at the bottom of the engine compartment. When this occurs the belt starts to slip causing an intermittent squealing and intermittent lose of steering control.
