GMC Acadia owners have reported 73 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Acadia based on all problems reported for the Acadia.
Looking into a check engine light I found I had a misfire in a few cylinders. Looking into it I found oil in my spark plug tubes, my coils were perfectly dry and the top of the tubes were dry as well. Looking into this issue I found multiple TSB forms for the issue stating there was a manufacture defect in the head. It says it effects all vins for all years as they use the same engine.

My Acadia has shut off without warning multiple times. Today, I was in a parking lot picking up a prescription. The car was idling while I was waiting in the pick-up lane and then shut off. The dash remained on and gave the following warnings: traction control off, engine power reduced, service stabilitrack. I tried to restart the engine only to have the car shutter violently while idling. I turned the car off again and then restarted for a second time. This time it restarted as normal and the check engine light came on. I have taken it to a dealer 4 times since October as it has shut off while driving and making a turn. The dealer says there are no codes in the diagnostics and cannot find a problem. I'm terrified to drive the car. I saw a recall from 2014 about an electrical short but I don't know if that was already fixed on this vehicle since I bought it used. I also don't know if this is even related to that recall.

I have 2 ongoing issues, 1st is the car will be driving fine then get a check engine light and have a code for cylinder misfire. Car was at dealer multiple times with issue and could not duplicate while under extended warranty. Mysteriously the intake has to come apart and be reworked since the warranty expired, and still has same issues. The 2nd and more concerning issue is the power steering. Initially took in and told the rack and pinion needs changed. Still had same issue and told power steering now needs to be changed, so we did. Sound and still stiff after 2 racks and 2 pumps. Mechanic refused to work it again. Took to dealer yesterday. Says needs new power steering pump. So dealer took for a test drive and said it's still doing it and needs another rack and pinion. At what point is GMC that has a known safety issue with steering going to fix this issue. I can't keep throwing money at this thing and I can't feel unsafe in it. What can I do?.

2014 GMC Acadia went abruptly into what they call limp mode. The engine lost power, with a massive shutter throughout the vehicle, numerous warning lights on dash, saying reduced power, low voltage, traction control/stability control and check engine light. I have done some online research and seems to be a big issue for the Acadia! a recall to general motors is in order so all these safety issues get addressed as soon as possible. There are stories that the dealers have fixed them but a week or two later the issues returned. Please help us.
My check engine light was on so I took it to my mechanic because I need an inspection sticker. Found out today after I took it to a GMC dealer that I now need to replace my timing chain. I've only owned the car a year and a half. I bought an extended power train warranty but doubt its covered. This should be covered by the recall, it seems to be an issue for more than just me.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the coolant sensor was replaced however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was diagnosed by two additional unknown mechanics but not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
Check engine light came on. Took it to check the codes and mechanic says that my timing chain in stretched. There is only 114,xxx miles on it. It's going to cost a lot to get it fixed.
Check engine light came on and engine lost power during rush hour coming home. Lost at least 50% power, very little acceleration and quite the challenge to merge over 4 lanes to get to the sholder of the highway. Code was checked and code was for timing. Mechanic pulled timing chain cover and found that it was stretched. He told me the 3. 6 engine was well known for this. Two freaking months after we paid it off. Will not purchase another Acadia and will stay away from encave and traverse as well as they have same engine in many. Very discouraged they would knowingly allow this issue to go on without being addressed.

Stability track warning light keeps coming on I was told by my mechanic that it could be the sensor so I had it replaced with a factory brand GMC sensor and I'm still having the same problem. Also my passenger side air bag keeps saying it needs to be serviced but it's never been deployed and no one has an answer for why this warning keeps coming up the stability track warning comes on as I'm driving every time after about 10 to 15 minutes and the passenger side air bag warning comes on as soon as I start the vehicle engine. And also I have a problem with code p0700 it keeps turning on my check engine light and I had it fixed but it still keeps turning on .

My 2018 GMC Acadia slt-1 has been having acceleration issues like shuddering and or feels like a full loss of power , with no check engine light. I've taken it into the dealership twice for this problem . I've only taken it in this 2nd time because it got worse and scared me that it would die on the highway. It also has had to have the battery charged 3 times in a couple of weeks , yet the dealer says the battery checks good. At the least I believed since its under warranty they would change the battery in the case the computer is causing issues based on battery voltage. The alternator is working , but with only 29k miles none of this battery nor acceleration shudder and stumble like its going to die should be acceptable.

My 2014 GMC Acadia shuts off from time to time while driving down the road with no warnings and there is no active codes on a scanner no check engine light comes on when this happens radio keeps playing and dash is still lit up but engin is not running this results in a loss of power steering and the brakes not working properly once you get the car off the road and turn the key the car starts back up and continues to run normally this has happened two times to me in about a 3 week period not sure what the issue is but I googled the problem and found a lot of the same issue every time this issue occurred it was while turning on to a busy street. I feel someone is going to be seriously injured or killed do to this problem.
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that at start-up, the engine misfire with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic stated that the timing chain needed to be replaced. A secondary independent mechanic confirmed the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I own a 2010 GMC Acadia. The code that was being thrown was p0008. I had to have the chains and actuators replaced in the engine. After paying for that the check engine light is back on again, so the vehicle is back at the shop again. There is a service bulletin out for 2007-2012 however, the extended warranty is only for 2007-2009. This is a known issue that GMC needs to take care of. Seems to me that the lemon law may apply as I am seeing more and more people having this same issue. Maybe we should contact an attorney to get GMC to take care of this issue.
I bought my 2008 GMC Acadia and not long after the check engine light came on. It was the timing chain. I had the chevy dealership replace it which was almost $3000. 00. About a year and a half later it has gone out again. And I can't afford another $3000. 00. Now it's just sitting. Very up set about this.
When I purchased the vehicle in less than an hour the check engine light, airbag light , tire pressure sensor popped on. The car would have a slow take off and shake as you accelerate on the city street. When I drive the freeway the car will hesitate and take 15 seconds before it switch gears to catch up to speed and jerk. The service airbag, service tire monitor system, service stabilitrak, service traction control alert messages are on the message console.
Check engine light came on due to jumped timing 3 days after we had purchased the vehicle from a dealership and a little over a year later it had jumped timing again so now I have to come up with 800 to tear down the motor so they can properly diagnose it. So I do not have the money for that so now I am stuck with a vehicle that I am paying for and cannot drive. It is sitting in my driveway as we speak. The vehicle was in the driveway and we were getting ready to leave when it happened. Both times. The dates it happened were 1/5/2018 with 137000 miles on it and the other date was 2/5/2019 and it has 152045 miles on it.
My traction control and service stabilitrak light keeps coming on. Now my check engine light came on and says camshaft sensor. I took to a mechanic and they said that I need a new motor.
Check engine light is on. Vehicle is showing a p0008 code with 92,000 miles this is a crankshaft misalignment that I was told means the timing chain will need to be replaced. This is apparently a widespread issue amongst GMC Acadia owners.
The passenger front seat airbag turns on with no one and nothing in the seat. I have been made aware that electrical devices can turn it on but this is not the case, I can have nothing in the seat and it turns on and dings while driving which is a distraction. As for the engine, I have a check engine light one which makes it where the remote start will not work. When we pulled the codes it comes back to the the timing chain which is a known issue because they have a service bulletin out on it.
These symptoms started over 2 years ago and is very intermittent. Driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly loses power, unable to accelerate and the transmission will not shift out of high gear. The decrease in speed is significant enough that on now 3 occasions the vehicle has almost nearly been rear-ended. Additionally, on the instrument panel the following indicators and messages occur: - "check engine light" - "traction control off" - "engine power is reduced" - "service traction control" - "service stabilitrak" additional symptoms: - loss of power steering - loss of power brakes once vehicle is turned off and sits for a few minutes. The vehicle will start and all of the symptoms above will go away with the exception sometimes of the check engine light. This indicator goes off after vehicle has sat overnight. Note this occurs very infrequently. . . Sometimes months in between. August 2018, dealership (chev automation north, denver, CO) diagnosed as transmission problem. Paid $5800 for replacement. October 22, 2018, all of the symptoms described above occurred again while on highway nearly crashing the vehicle. Wife now refuses to drive the car again. This vehicle is totally unsafe. It is unfortunate that a fatal accident must occur before any real attention is made to fixing a problem of this magnitude with gm vehicles.

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that their gas gauge reads the wrong amount of fuel. When the contact filled up their fuel tank the meter remained on empty. Multiple warning lights illuminated. Check engine light and the oil light came on. The vehicle was not towed. The dealer was not contacted, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. 18,000. Jw.
While driving at 55 mph three warnings came on "reduced engine power" "service stabilitrak" and "traction control off" then, the speed began to decline and I could not go more than 35 mph. Got the car to a safe place to stop and when I put in park a sputtering in the engine could be felt. I turned off and when I started it to bring it in for service it ran fine but check engine light was still on. A very similar incident occurred just over a year ago. Repair was to replace the throttle body. Also mention of the tps sensor on the throttle. I have not had the current issue fixed yet.

The car began misfiring shortly after I purchased it. Had it repaired. Spark plugs and fuel injector caps replaced. It's been less than 6 months and again the check engine light is on and the car will not shift gears or accelerate. Extremely dangerous to n the expressway. I drive my children in this car! car threatens to die when attempting to accelerate.
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that three days after the vehicle was purchased, the contact was unable to start the vehicle. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light later illuminated. The vehicle was taken to kindle auto plaza Ford (523 stone harbor blvd, cape may court, (609) 465-5000), where the starter, the timing chain and the transmission were replaced. Additionally, the air bag sensor light illuminated while driving at an unknown speed. The vehicle was taking to the same dealer, where the front passenger's air bag sensor was replaced. The sensor failure recurred several times and the dealer referred the contact to the NHTSA. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to jim curley Buick GMC of keyport (400 NJ-35, keyport, NJ 07735) to have a diagnostic test performed. The technician retrieved failure codes: p0018 and p0021 showing that the timing chain and camshaft actuator were no longer performing properly. The contact was informed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The contact also wanted to state that the vehicle was taken to same dealer several times for the engine light being illuminated however, the dealer cleared the engine codes under the vehicle warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 44,547.
Timing chain was replaced about 3,000 miles ago. Check engine light appeared just minutes before exiting onto the highway. I accelerated to a maximum of 45mph before the engine started to "putt" and then I thought the transmission went out on the vehicle, the rpm skyrocketed, I slowed the vehicle down to pull over and it started smoking / steaming and oil and water were spewing out all over the vehicle. I thought it was on fire. Several passers-by noticed and called police reporting that my vehicle was on fire, I called a tow truck. Got a ride to work. Towed to the dealer / service center who replaced timing chain. They said the engine is shot. 2 pistons fell out. Class action lawsuit needs to occur on this vehicle. It is a pile of junk to fix and extremely unsafe. Timing chain and transmission problems. Engine problems. Unrecalled, defective timing chains in these GMC Acadia's cause catastrophic permanent unsafe engine damage. GMC will not recall unless they are forced to, due to the cost of replacing the entire engine after the timing chain failures. I thought the vehicle was going to explode when I pulled over when the engine failed; I jumped out and backed away to a safe distance. Scariest driving moment I've ever experience. A class action needs to occur in order for them to do something about this once and for all.
Timing chain needed replacement due to stretch and check engine light at 137,882 which cost $2,049. This issue was covered under special warranty for 2007-2009 model years, but the 2010 is not covered. My understanding of GMC's fix is that nothing changed with the timing chain and the oil system life was lowered as to when an oil change was recommended by the vehicle (more frequent oil changes). I have completed all scheduled oil changes based on the automated prompt from the vehicle and still had to complete this costly repair out of pocket. I would like to see this known issue also covered by the special warranty on newer vehicles and be reimbursed for my expenses.
Timing chains stretch. Very common issue on this and other gm vehicles with 3. 6l engine. Just purchased my vehicle and it's at the dealer for a $2600 repaor on this problem. Can happen at any mileage and without warning other than check engine light. Timing chains stretch causing engine to be out of sync and eventually engine damage/failure while driving. Minimum cost of repair is $2500+ as engine has to be removed to do the repair. Gm has knowledge of the problem and even issued extended special warranties to cover the problem on 2007-2009 models only even though 2010 and newer models have same problem with same engine. Any internet search will yield hundreds of other owners with same issue.
The contact owns a 2016 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle began to vibrate abnormally. The contact stated that the check engine warning light flashed on and off and the service stabila-trac warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the traction control warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to faulkner Buick GMC trevose located at 4427 e street rd, trevose, PA 19053, phone number: (267) 984-4658, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was an O2 sensor failure, along with an ecm malfunction, and fuel level sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 26,334.

I'm filing a complaint about my model year 2010 GMC Acadia. My check engine light has come on at 96,000. The code is p0008. This code points to the timing chain. This is a known issue with GMC Acadia's and is the same issue that caused GMC to extend their powertrain warranty on 2009 model Acadia's to 120,000 mile or 10 years. GMC is not offering to extend my warranty to 120,000 miles or 10 years even though I'm experiencing the same problem that caused them to extend 2009 model cars. My car was manufactured in oct 2009.
Check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the local dealership. The service representative informed me this was a stretched timing chain issue - a common issue with GMC Acadias. Upon searching the internet for error code p0008 it pulls up loads of information regarding the Acadia timing chain issue. In fact, model years 2007 through 2009 had an extended warranty issued for them up to 120,000 miles for this exact same issue. My vehicle is a 2010 and is experiencing the same issue that was recalled, and my vehicle was most likely manufactured during the time they were experiencing timing chain issues. My timing chain failed at only 71,000 miles, well below the recommended timeline. I called GMC to file a claim and see if they would cover this under some warranty. I was told by the representative that they were aware of these problems but since I purchased the vehicle used, there was nothing they would do for me. I have performed all maintenance on the vehicle at the recommended intervals and still experienced a failure. This was an extremely expensive fix that was unacceptable since it should not have happened in the first place. GMC should stand by their products when they are aware of issues like this.
Check engine light: timing chains stretched. Check engine light came on. I took the vehicle to the local dealership where I have service performed. The service representative informed me this was a stretched timing chain issue - a common issue with GMC Acadias. I was informed that if/when it "breaks", I can lose power to the vehicle while driving. I asked another repair center for a second opinion and while informing the service technician of having a timing chain problem on my vehicle (without providing make/model of vehicle), the service technician guessed that I had a GMC Acadia as this was a common problem with them. I checked my warranties as I currently have 103,000 miles. None of my active warranties cover it. I called GMC directly and was informed by the customer service representative that they are aware this is an issue but it has not reached a level to which GMC will extend any type of special coverage for vehicles when this fails. Since this is an extremely expensive fix, I am stuck with deciding if I should go in debt fixing a 6 year old vehicle or risking it and driving it until it fails, potentially leaving myself at risk for an accident. This is ridiculous that it is a common issue that was addressed in 2007 and 2009 models but hasn't been addressed yet for the 2010 model.
The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was pushed over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed that the catalytic converter had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Having the same check engine light/timing chain stretch issue. After researching I found that these models oil change cycle were to be set at 3000 miles. I also know that this is an issue on models through at least 2012 but gm still has not issued a recall on these models.
2010 GMC Acadia possible timing chain stretch issue. Purchased vehicle used 2 yrs ago now have 96k miles on it. Yesterday car wouldn't start after being drive 10 minutes earlier. Pulled codes and all pointed to the 1,3, and 5 cylinder ignition issue. Cleared codes and seemed to be fine, drove 20 miles with deep resonate sound at cruise that went away when accelerating and decelerating. Drive back home sound remained the same and check engine light came back on. Pulled codes once again and different set came up with p0008, p0016, and p0017 signifying timing issues which makes me believe timing chain stretch. I think I might be in for an expensive fix but most I want this reported to manufacturer to maybe be the last straw to include my year vehicle recall. Any info would be appreciated.
