36 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/19/2016

Having the same check engine light/timing chain stretch issue. After researching I found that these models oil change cycle were to be set at 3000 miles. Ours has been 5000 miles since we bought it brand new in March 2010. I also know that this is an issue on models through at least 2012 but gm still has not extended the warranty to the same 10 years/120,000 miles as the 2007-2009 models. Our Acadia has only 87,000 miles. This is a $3000 fix for an issue that gm knows is a problem.

38 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

While driving the check engine light came on. The dealership read the code and diagnosed that the timing chains needed to be replaced. Unsafe condition that can cause the engine to stop running while being driven at highway speeds. My research showed gm extended warranty and covers costs for timing chain replacement on the 3. 6 engines for the 2007-2009 model years, but not the 2010. The problem with the 2007-2009 models were the car's computer alerting the engine oil needed to be changed too late and dirty oil was restricted from going to lubricate the timing chains and resulted in the timing chains stretching and wearing prematurely. I have contacted gm and they will not provide any coverage for the 2010 models. Same problem in the 2007-2009 models is covered.

39 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/19/2015

Took the car in to have check engine light diagnoised. Dealer advised that the timing chain needs replacement. Estimate is $3300+ gm knows about the problems with timing chains in the 07-09 Acadias, and have provided assistance to owners of those vehicles. It's clear to me they haven't got the problems solved yet. 2010 Acadia 111,000 km (69,000 mi) synthetic oil changed @ 10,000 km intervals.

42 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Bought vehicle with only 23k miles on it, transmission started acting up within 6 months of driving it, taken to a dealer, said nothing wrong, another year later got worse, took it in to a different dealer, nothing wrong, 6 months later took it in before going on vacation, nothing wrong, but had problems while on vacation, 6 months later, 1,500 miles away from home on vacation, driving down a 75 mile an hour speed limit divided highway, transmission went out with no warning, no dash warning, took in to a transmission dealer (since we couldn't get into a dealer) and said we wouldn't make it home the way it was. 5 grand later and a mess of a vacation later we were on our way home. Less than 3 months later, tighten gas cap light on dash, check tire pressure light on and check engine light on. Found out online that this model and make and year had numerous issues with transmission, don't understand how there was no recall and how gm got away with it. Oh, and we were under extended warranty in the beginning where they said nothing wrong, and as soon as warranty was expired, boom! transmission had to be fixed! transmission dealer said the damage was from a cheap 15. 00 part that caused us to have to spend 5 grand while on vacation. We have all shop paperwork showing the paper trail what we tried to get fixed.

43 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/16/2015

2008 GMC Acadia with slightly under 53,000 miles. Was driving across town and the transmission started to shift unexpectedly as if slipping out of gear and the engine going to high revolutions. Check engine light came on. Vehicle stopped for awhile, restarted, began heading towards dealership. Acceleration completely failed and vehicle rolled to a stop with inability to go forward or in reverse. Vehicle towed to gm dealership. Been informed that the clutch broke and spread metal bits across the transmission. Transmission must be replaced even though vehicle only has 53,000 miles on it. Complaint also filed with gm customer care requesting financial assistance with the prohibitive cost of premature repair.

44 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

Check engine light came on. Took it to dealer and was told the error code indicated the timing chain tension was loose. Dealer said they would have to remove the engine to repair the timing chain. I was told by the dealer that this was a common problem with this engine and that all of the cars built in 2007, 2008, and 2009 were recalled and the warranty was extended to cover this problem. They said that the problem was resolved and the problem no longer affects this engine. It seems that the problem has not been fixed because the same problem has happened to my 2010 GMC Acadia. The dealer agreed that this is the same problem but GMC will not cover the repair on this vehicle. I have reached out to general motors customer care department but they will not help with this issue. I was told that they changed suppliers and the timing chain problem is no longer a problem. Well it sure seems like it still is a problem. I have a friend that has the same vehicle same year and his check engine light is on. I asked him to have it checked and he has the same problem. I can give you the owners name and VIN if needed to verify. I have changed the oil at the recommended intervals and have receipts for all maintenance. I found this information for reference " the NHTSA and gm reference numbers for the TSB- NHTSA reference- 10043857 TSB reference- sb-11340.

46 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/09/2015

After a couple attempts to address service engine issues with local mechanic, the car continued to display codes and then would not consistently shift into 2 or 3rd gear. We took the car to a GMC dealer and they found that the transmission control module needed replaced (code p0752) as did the shift solenoid. Check engine light was also related to stretched timing chains which were replaced since first issue required the engine be removed for repairs to be made. I noticed many complaints online for transmission issues and saw recalls for 2007 Acadia's but not 2008, in my opinion 2008 should also be included. Total bill $2,960 with two 10% discounts from dealer since they felt bad for me.

47 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/19/2015

While driving the vehicle the check engine light comes on and the vehicle monitor text says to pull over and turn car off. This is done and after 30 minutes we are able to take car to local shop, since dealership is 30 minutes away in snow conditions. After diagnostics malfunction indicator lamp is on due to poor acceleration, ice deposits and oil deposits in air inlet duct. Due to all the oil and ice deposits all spark plugs are replaced, but I was told if I don't replace the valve cover which are the original to the car, I will have to replace the plugs about every 15k to 20k miles. When I talked to GMC cs they told me to call local dealer which in turn said they could do nothing for me. I would have to replace the valve covers at my expense.

50 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

I was traveling on the highway at about 70 mph in the left lane and the engine began to sputter like it was going to stall. It dropped my speed to 60 without warning. I had a vehicle behind me going the same speed and had to quickly move to the right to avoid getting hit. The check engine light came on and the traction control / stabilitrac turned off. Brought it to the dealer and they told me I was using the wrong gas. They cleaned carbon out of the intake valves. I have put gas in it twice since then, at shell, which is what they told me to use. It happened again today 12/9 when I was going around a corner in the rain. This time it said service stabilitrak and service traction control with the check engine light flashing and the engine sputtering. I had been going through a puddle at the time so I almost lost control of the vehicle. Called the dealer and they told me they had no record of me bringing it in on the 21st. I am bringing it back to them on the 15th because that is the first time they will have a loaner available for me. I am now afraid to drive my car because of the danger of sliding and losing control. I have no warning of when this is going to happen and I have not been able to pin point it happening at any certain mileage or such. Very scary when it happens.

51 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/21/2014

After taking my vehicle to phil moore Buick GMC on 10/16/2014 and paying $1341. 10 for repairs after a check engine light indicator, the check engine light came on again on 10/20/2014 and caused the vehicle to slow from 60 miles per hour to 20 miles per hour on the highway. When the vehicle was returned to the dealership on10/21/2015, I was told there were additional repairs needed on the engine at an estimated cost of $2789. 18. Because repairs had just been completed on the same area 5 days earlier, I called the gm corporation and I was informed that repairs to the engine should have been covered under a recall and the dealership should have noticed the recall at the time of service.

52 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

While driving at speeds ranging from 30 mph to 60 mph, the engine begins to miss, especially uphill. The vehicle begins to shake terribly. When I contacted the dealership regarding the issue, I was asked if the check engine light was on. It was not but the dealership had me bring it in anyway. This vehicle has been in the shop three or four times now. I have paid to have the fuel system cleaned as well as the spark plugs and plug coils replaced. These are expensive processes not covered by extended warranties. In the end, I have been told by the dealership that unless a check engine light comes on to 'map' the problem, they can't help me.

54 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

While on vacation the weekend of August 15-17, our vehicle's check engine light came on. We took it to the garage on 8-26-14. After 2 1/2 days of diagnosing the vehicle, the dealership advised us we had 2 bent rods in cylinder 3 and 4. We contacted gm to open a case study. The dealership called us and asked us what we were looking for as a resolution. We felt that with only 43,000 miles on it, our vehicle should not be having such drastic engine issues. Furthermore, the engine/timing cover was already replaced at 23,118 miles. The dealership asked us to verify that the vehicle had no flood history, get details of the warranty provided by the dealer from whom we purchased it, and provide maintenance records. We did that. The dealership first told us they would give us $1,000 off a new vehicle (really?). We said we still had a loan and payment. They advised us they would be able to come close to our current payment. When we spoke with them next, they advised that gm would not be providing any assistance and that they think now it is just a valve issue. How can you go from 2 bent rods to a valve issue? we told the dealership to put the vehicle back together; we were coming to get it. We towed it home. We contacted gm again to let them know what a bad experience we had with a dealership that kept changing their story about what gm was going to do to help and what our problems were. They advised us we could take it to another garage and have all the diagnostics done again (at our expense). Then the dealership could contact them to see if there is any cost assistance available. They said that since we didn't buy our vehicle from a gm dealer and didn't service it at a gm dealer (we never had an issue prior to this), we wouldn't score high for cost assistance from gm. We aren't the only one in this situation according to research. Help!.

55 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

My GMC arcadia 2008 constantly stalls on me the issues started August 5 and has continue up to last night August 17th. While I'm driving the car would shut off on me and the check engine light would appear. I wont be able to restart the car so I had the car towed to the nearest GMC dealer. After paying for a diagnostic report the mechanic told me they could not find any codes indication the check engine light even came on. Last night I was scared because I left work at midnight after driving about 10 minutes the car started jumping then turned off and the check engine light came on in the middle of the street . I called on-star and they were dispatching a tow truck because the car would not come on. After 45 minutes I tried to turn the car on and it came on so I cancelled the tow truck service. This is a issue that's been happening for the last 2 weeks. I cant get the issued fixed because the last 2 diagnostic reports that were ran states no issues. I also had on-star run a diagnostic report right when the issue happened and they also told me they don't see any issues. I took a picture with my cell phone when the check engine light came on but no one seems to know the issues the SUV is facing. Everything stays on the radio the lights just the car shuts off and wont start for like 45 minutes to an hour. I've looked on different GMC arcadia forums and it seems I'm not the only person having this issue with this same make model and year car. Someone on the forum suggested I make a compliant at the ntsa.

61 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/03/2013

When beginning to drive our vehicle from church the check engine light came on and vehicle would not downshift, and speed would not get above 30 mph. When brought to the dealership the following day, we were told we would need a new transmission. The vehicle only has 50k and should not have had this issue, and it is a transmission safety issue. Had we been on a busy highway and this incident occurred, a major accident could have taken place. Other sites have listed numerous complaints about the same transmission problem occurring in various Acadia's as well. A recall should have been issued and gm should pay for the full repair as it is over $4,000.

62 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

Car shut down while I was driving. After awhile it started back up but it would only go on first gear so I could go more than 20mph. Then when I went home, the check engine light came on and the reverse did not work. I have read alot of complaints about the same problem with 2007 Acadias. I hope these cars get recalled because some people might not be as lucky as I was were there weren't any cars around or in the interstate.

63 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Went to back out of my garage and the car wouldn't go. Had to have the transmission replaced. We had not been experiencing any issues with the car regarding the transmission in the days before it quit working. Other than the check engine light coming on for a few min and then went off about 5 min later about 2 days before it quit working. I love this car but disappointed that our transmission went out at 81,246 miles.

64 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

I was driving home from work around 5:05pm on the 5 north freeway going about 65 mph. All of a sudden my check engine light went on and I felt a sudden loss of power in my acceleration. As I stepped on the gas more to keep up with the flow of traffic, the rpm needle jumped up to between 4 and 6 on my gauge, but my vehicle wasn't going any faster so I had to steer to the right to get to the exit. I was barely able to exit without almost getting rear ended but I had no choice as my vehicle would not go over 40mph. After getting it checked at the nearest shop, I was told that it was a stuck solenoid. After I got that fixed, 4 months later, same problem, but now the dealership is telling me they will have to rebuild my transmission due to a broken wave plate, which will cost me at least $2800, which I don't have.

65 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

I was driving to the store, going down hill on the right side of the road. Mid-way down a message appeared on the computer saying "engine failure, power off" and the car just shut down with out warning. No matter how hard I pressed on the gas the car was shut off. The steering went out as well and I had to stand in the seat to use all my power to turn the wheel. Previous to this, the check engine light had not been on, no advance warning of this. I had both of my children in the car at the time. Luckily there was a bp gas station with garage at the bottom of the hill, I was able to coast the car into the gas station where they ran diagnostic testing and repaired my car and reset the sensors. Nine months later I was driving with both of my children again, in north east washington DC when out of no where the same message appeared. I was able to pull the car over to the side of the road and restart the engine one time. I turned around to go home and on the drive home the same thing happened on a less of an incline of a hill. The car shut down completely towards the top of the hill going down. Same as before, no gas and no steering ability. I was too scared to leave the car on the side as cars coming over the hill would not have time to stop before hitting us. I put the car in neutral and tried to glide down the hill to the shell station. The car cut out completely and lost all momentum so I had to push the car into the gas station and wait 3 hours for the tow truck to arrive. It went back to the bp station from February and had a new battery and several other items replaced. I bought this car new in 2007 and have had countless breakdowns and replacements- two transmissions within the first 3 years and repairs. I keep up with car maintenance regularly and do no neglect anything.

69 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/23/2009

While at wyatt johnson dealership to buy car, salesperson, [xxx], states there is a problem with the plastic pieces attached to floor mats. States he needs to order them and bring car back in. Less than week later, check engine light comes on. They kept car for a few weeks because they state they needed to order a part that they did not have in. Finally picked up car to realize there was so many miles on it that I thought it was not the Acadia we bought, or they set it up on a dolly to let tires rotate to hike the miles. They knew we were moving soon, military, and did not have time to do something about it. Within a 100 miles the check engine light came on again. Long story short, this happened time and time again where dealership would have car for weeks with us to drive around a $5000 loaner vehicle while making payments on a $40,000 vehicle. Because we were not stationed as same state as where we bought it, no GMC dealership would take the vehicle back as a lemon. Twice we ran from the vehicle fearing for our life because it stalled, smoked, and had the smell of gas in the cabin area. No dealership at new duty station would take the car back without sever penalties, and said we would need to return it to the state we bought it in order to turn it in as a lemon, however, the vehicle was not safe to drive from florida to tennessee. Keep in mind the car went in and out of shop 8-10 times with them keeping the vehicle weeks at a time. We paid $680 with 0% interest rate a month for the car to sit at the dealerships. Frustrated, we told the dealerships in melbourne FL and ally financial we were too scared to drive it, nothing the repairmen did helped the gas smell or check engine light, and they could tow it off our driveway. On a car fax report, it shows a title change occurred during the time they kept it. I feel sorry for whoever bought this vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

70 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/20/2008

Check engine light / stabilitrak warning light leading to discovery the engine cylinder head and valves were damaged and needed to be replaced. Total repair took 33 days. Apparently this is an ongoing problem with this gm engine. Numerous internet sites state improperly manufactured camshaft components are the possible cause. My camshafts were not replaced, but I do suspect they were probably the cause based on present information available to me.
