1 Engine Noise problem of the 2019 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/20/2021

During takeoff with moderate acceleration around 1500-2000 rpm there is an exhaust droning/buzzing sound forward of the front passenger area. Vehicle has been to dealer twice, the first time they replaced the entire exhaust system, but after 6 months the same sound returned. The second time they tried to loosen and retighten the exhaust but the sound returned immediately afterward. The droning sound is more likely to occur after exhaust is warmed up.

2 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

Was driving my car. Got off I-79 to get gas. Got back in my car and it wouldn't start. Had to get a jump. It started. Started driving (about 4 miles) all of a sudden it started making a noise from the motor. It never gave me a warning, no noise or anything before this. It ran perfectly. I'm so disgusted. They're saying almost $5000. 00 with parts and labor with a used motor. The bearing spun, the roller rocker broke off timing chain, and something else. Hmm a used motor. You do know a used motor will fall into that category again!! I took it to the mechanic where it still sits. I upkept the oil before it was due. It has 138,706 miles I never had any problems with this car at all . Gm I hope you do us right because we stood by you and trusted you!.

7 Engine Noise problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/09/2017

Takata recall: I'm having idle/stalling issues with my 2009 GMC Acadia. Car cuts off while driving causing a safety hazard. First, I had my car inspected by local licensed mechanic who diagnosed a timing chain issue and cat converter issue. I followed by call a GMC dealer and informing them of my car problems. They scheduled my car for an inspection since they have an extended warranty for timing chains. They inspected my vehicle and informed me since the timing chain wasn't making noises they wouldn't diagnose it as a problem. They released my car without fixing it and my car still cuts off and idles while driving. They also told me about many other issues found during the diagnostic totaling over $8000 in repairs. I called and complained to GMC and they informed me that their are actually many other additional parts warranty's/coverages that they have and may be able to assist me with. I find this very concerning as the GMC dealership refused to properly diagnose and service my vehicle, along with the fact that GMC has secret additional wanrranties/coverages that the general public doesn't know about my car was in the GMC dealer shop for 4 days and they refused to assist me with a loaner vehicle while my car was being inspected. They released my vehicle and now I'm back to square one with the same issues and new list of supposedly found car issues estimating over $8,000.

8 Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/25/2017

I have a 2008 Acadia which is equipped with a timing chain that has been known by general motors to prematurely stretch and fail, and which can cause serious damage to other engine components, as well as activate certain sensors either prematurely or not at all. Your engine and key components and crankshafts and sensors rely on the timing chain in order to function properly. When you're driving in your vehicle and the timing chain gets stretched, the check engine light flashes on, the engine and transmission will power down and shut off, a loud buzzing sound will occur and hope to god you are not on the highway, because general motors knows about the defect but still will not issue a recall on the prematurely stretched timing chains due to the extensive cost of repair. They have extended warranty coverage on certain similar models in 2007 and 2009, and have offer full replacement of the timing chain up to 10 years and 120,000 miles, but despite the same issue occurring in vehicles made in 2008 with the same defects, they have denied my service request. This a very costly and extremely unsafe condition to drive the vehicle in. It is terrifying when your engine misfires and powers down, and your warning lights flash with a loud buzzing alarm sound blaring through the speakers. The traction control, stabilitrak system, and airbag sensors are all adversely affected by the defective timing chain as well, and the manufacturer is well aware of this defect and unfortunately will probably not be held responsible until someone is killed in an accident as a result of a defective timing chain. I'm so disappointed in this vehicle and the lack of accountability through the manufacturer. They know it's a problem. They are aware of the defect. They even extended coverage to replace up until a certain point, but beyond that, they do not care.

9 Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

I made a previous complaint filed here under NHTSA id number: 10765088. The local garber GMC dealership sealed the sunroof and cleaned the clogged hoses that drain water from the roof. They also replaced the passenger side airbag for a total of $600. They gave a guarantee that there would be no more leaks. On November 18 the car began leaking from the front passenger side airbag area and water poured from the roof onto the glove compartment when I made a full stop. Currently awaiting a return call from the service manager of GMC dealer. I have video of the problem. I was driving in the rain from one college campus location to another, in other words many stop and go and side streets at 30 mph or less. The car made squealing noises as well which happened last time too (September of this year).

10 Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

Oil changes at dealer performed every 3k miles. At 88k miles, shortly after drive train warranty expired. The check engine light appeared. Full diagnostics performed by local dealer stated timing chain buffers were beginning to fail. Est cost $3500. Advised that since the light comes on/off intermittently, okay to wait to see if problem worsens, which may be many years, if ever. At 92k miles, while on highway, the transmission wouldn't shift gears, rpm's climbed, pulled over vehicle where it stalled and wouldn't restart. Vehicle towed to dealer, where tested and determined that engine needs replacement due to loud metalic engine noise and metal shavings in oil. Estimated repairs from two GMC dealers of $6600 to $7600 for re-manufactured engine. Local dealers have stated that timing chain buffers is a very common problem with 2008 GMC Acadia and vehicle should be recalled, but is not due to the cost of engine replacement. Contacted GMC (belva - senior case analyst) to describe case and they responded that they will not assist in the repairs because: 1) vehicle was purchased used - stating that all such purchases are 'as-is' from dealer and its up to the consumer to do due-dilegence before purchasing, 2) vehicle power train warranty expired by date shortly before purchase, and 3) power train warranty is now 3 years past the date, regardless of when issue first appeared. GMC senior advisor also stated the she recently purchased a used gm product, and the engine failed shortly afterward at 100k miles, and gm will not assist her either, as that is also out of the date range of the power train warranty. Engine was manufactured in the k-gm (saint catharines, ontario) plant.

11 Engine Noise problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

I took my car to be service on many occassion and the car was making a sound when you put it in gear. I inquired about what was going on before my power train warranty ran out. The guy that was servicing my car stated that the mount needed fixing and I was giving a card with the price on it that it would cost to fix the problem which was $335. Well not long after that my transmission went out right after my warranty had expired. Although the deal paid 60%, if the car dealer ship had been honest, they had to know the transmission was going but I was told to continue to drive the car because it would be all right. This was not true because not long after the power train warranty had expired, the transmission went and I had to come up with the different. I am on a fixed income and I really needed my car because it was the only transportation that was working. I had to charge the amount on my credit card which has really created a financial burden. I have come to realize that car dealership does not care about the customer, only the money. Since they fixed the transmission I do not have that problem with the car jumping when you pull off. This was and still is my dream, but I never would have thought this would have happened with a new car. I have a 2003 montero sport and I have never had this problem. I do not feel that I should have had to pay anything. This just shows that their product is not as good as I hoped for. I wanted to up grade to another Acadia but the dealership did stop me from looking into it because he told me it would be more money out of my pocket. This is very sad for the people that trusted in GMC product.

12 Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

In the last few months we have been having problems with different service lights coming on multiple times and one time while driving down highway the computer engine revved up and then slowed the vehicle to minimal speed until later shutting off car reset the vehicle. Service stabiltrak, abs, engine light, traction control light and air bag light. Some times we can hear engine noise while idleing and cruise control does not work at times. This car only has approximately 72,255 miles as of 09/2/14 when taken to get checked for issues. After checking serviceman recommended full timing chain overhaul and replacement of throttle body for an estimated cost of $3,727. 85. After looking online regarding these issues we found many complaints regarding timing chain but no recalls on 2008 model. 2007 models I saw had extended warranty for timing chain but not 2008 models. This is our only family vehicle which our three children are riding in daily and making payments now looking at large repairs we can not afford. Please tell me why there are extended warranty for timing chain on 2007 but not 2008 when they are having the same issues? if this is not resolved we will never buy chevy or GMC again.

13 Engine Noise problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

Vehicle is low mileage 62,500 miles just past 5 years by 3 months. Timing chain started making noise for about a two weeks and get louder and check engine light came on due to mis fire. Vehicle is driven by middle age female with not even a minor accident in 35 years. Vehicle was maintained with regular oil changes. No apparent reason for the timing chain to make noise to the point of misfire. Called dealer, bob ross GMC in dayton ohio on loop road and they refused to help out, claiming that it out of warranty, too bad sir. Called gm and was told same. We asked if they have any reported problem on same issue and was told no. Well, they lied to me or not even checking. I checked this site and there were three reports of same timing chain. Need to hold dealer and gm to own up to their defected parts. No rule made them to do that. I am voting with my feet. Never buy a gm vehicle again !!!!!!.

14 Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

My 2008 GMC Acadia gave me the scare of my life. I purchased my vehicle just last month and was very proud, I have been dreaming of this car for a while. However while traveling to my sons track meet my Acadia started jerking as if it was not getting any gas and the engine started making a loud humming or buzzing noises on farm market 521. The car slowed down to about 25 miles. Despite my continuing to press the gas pedal. I ended up jerking my way onward with my hazards on. I had cars screeching and flying around me. My kids and I are a nervous wreck. The 521 does not have a shoulder to pull off on. Miles later varying speeds as low as 15 and up to 35 mph I found a gas station (thank god) & pulled over. I powered down waited a few minutes then restarted the car. It started normally but I noticed I could not go into reverse while trying to leave the parking lot. I made my way forward all seemed well but 3-4 minutes into driving on 521 the same thing happened and now my check engine light is on. I started to panic I'm not familiar with the area. This is my first time here & the 521 is the only major road on my gps. I put-putted along and finally made it to the track meet in the middle of nowhere. Called my husband to come and check the car. After his look around he thinks my transmission is going out. He took the children in the suburban while I drove slowly ahead. Then I get a new message - engine hot idle something - I freak out and pull off as soon as I could. He ended up towing me home. I am one week past the 30 day warranty this sucks. I really love my Acadia & am very possessive of her, no one else can drive her, I don't want my kids to touch her. I take excellent care of her, she is clean, driven with love, but just don't understand what happened. I'm scheduling to take her to the shop in the morning, husbands mad but I'm hoping this can be resolved quickly.

15 Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

My husband and I purchased a new 2008 GMC Acadia in August 2009. Within the first year or so I noticed that the headlights were dim and the plastic over the lights started to peel. I contacted the dealership and they said there was nothing they could do, that wasn't covered under the warranty. I called gm direct and they also said there wasn't a recall and that it was probably a chemical that we used to wash our car, that caused the peeling. They quoted me $800 for a new set of headlights. . . Ugh. . . A year or so later, I began having trouble with the struts. They began to leak. I thought it was my brake line and I took it into the shop and they told me that the struts were bad and needed replacing. At that time there was around 36,000 miles on the vehicle. I had them changed out and the mechanic told me they were the worst he had ever seen. After the repair, the vehicle has never been the same. It's not near as smooth as it was and it makes noise. I had it checked to be sure they were installed properly and they were. The whole process cost me about $900. 00 the next issue I have had is more sever. This just happened a few months ago. I was taking my children to school and the vehicle stalled. All the lights came on and said stable track went off and the engine lost pressure and the vehicle stalled. After it cooled down I could drive a little further and the same thing would happen again. I took it back to the shop and they said it was the throttle and it would probably need to be replaced. They cleaned it for now, but I am scared to drive it anywhere! now the power steering is making noise when you turn the wheel, sounds like the power steering pump might be going out now as well. The vehicle only has 65,000 miles on it. .
