1 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/02/2020

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal noise appeared underneath the front driver's side hood. No warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil. No leaks were present. The vehicle received an oil change however, the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 153,245.

2 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/24/2019

Car started running roughly. It was loud upon starting. The car would make especially loud noises when on curves. Then the check engine light came on. Had it checked by a mechanic. Was told the timing chain is bad and needs replaced. This mechanic told me he sees this problem a lot & it has to be repaired by a dealership. The dealership's cost for this repair is $4400. I can't afford that. Upon calling mechanics all over town, they all say it's a common problem with gm's timing chains.

3 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/19/2019

I was experiencing problems driving my vehicle. It was riding rough and making a loud noise when I accelerated, so I took it to my mechanic and I got spark plugs and an oil change-still was riding rough. I went back and got a cam shaft position replaced-still nothing changed. I took it to another mechanic. He said it was an O2 censor. Changed it and nothing changed. No one could tell me what was wrong or what the noise was. Finally one morning on my way to work I had to pull over on the highway bc the car wouldn't accelerate. Got it towed to a different mechanic and that's when I found out it was the timing chain. After doing some research I was getting quotes for $2000-$2500. Finally one place told me to see if there was a recall. I called GMC. They said there is a recall on the timing chain. They connected me with a local GMC dealer who informed me after evaluating my vehicle that it's out of warranty and 5000 miles over the limit. Well I'm still paying for this vehicle and I owe $5000 on it. Clearly I was sold a lemon but what are my options now?.

4 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

We bought this used car from a dealer drove it about 4 to 5 months and the left signal light failed, so we changed it worked for one day and then went dead again. Turning left from my street the steering was really hard and had problems turning left but I did finally on another occasion the same thing happened. Finally driving suddenly we saw a turn engine off and the engine started making loud noises and went dead in the middle of the street. So we kept gliding with no engine running and went into a parking lot. Lucky for us the car stopped right in the parking lot. Had to be towed few miles to a mechanic that told us the timing chain is broken and in need for new engine. We towed it to another mechanic and the same thing was told. So now it is been sitting at the mechanic's shop for two week waiting for new engine to come in . I can not believe that around 84000 miles this car needs a new engine and it is not cheap at all. The car has a salvage tilte but this does not have anything to do with the problems since too many people have been documenting this problem, steering, electrical and failed engine. Why gm did not recall these cars for these failure. They are putting people and families at risk and we are stuck with the repairs and the bills piling up.

5 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/10/2018

At 70,000 miles, the valve spring broke, and allowed the keepers of the valve to come out and then the valve dropped into the cylinder. The mechanic had never seen anything like this before, and called it a catastrophic failure. The cost to put in a new engine was $8922. 38, and then a couple days later, we had to replace the alternator, which was most likely caused by the engine failure. The engine failed while pulling out of a store parking lot - it just stopped. When we tried restarting the engine, there was a terrible noise (metal parts were grinding inside the engine).

6 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/18/2016

My 2011 GMC Acadia would not start one morning. We put a battery charger on it. It started but has a pinging sound. We checked the oil. The oil was reading low. We added 3 qts of oil. We had auto repair shop change oil and install new battery. I still noticed the pinging sound. That evening, as I was driving the engine started making terrible sounds and loosing power. I stopped driving and had it towed to dealer. They said the engine was blown. I had no warning lights come on at all. The dealer is telling me it is most likely the timing chain. The Acadia is only 5 yrs old with 116k miles. This should not be happening to this new of car. I have spoken to several mechanics and they all say this is a known issue with the Acadia and this should be a recall or warranty issue. Equally frustrating, I bought a warranty that I was told was an "extended warranty" that I thought would lover it now I'm being told the warranty was from the date of purchase which is not what the salesmen told me when I bought it. I feel totally taken advantage of as a women.

7 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/22/2016

At 80,000 miles, after pulling out of parking, when I applied brakes the car started making rumbling noise from the engine and lurched forward despite pressing on brakes to stop. Pulled into a parking spot, while continuing to fight lurching of vehicle and turned car off to check engine oil, transmission oil, and power steering oil levels. All were fine. When attempted restart of vehicle, loud rumbling noise from engine, check engine light flickered and the car failed to start. Required a tow home from 100 miles away and $400. Hooked up obd, and received the following faults p0008, p0303, p0305, p0017, p0300, p0301. After researching on-line, common faults for timing chain issue estimate $3-4 thousand repair. Also, found 2007-2009 Acadia received extended warranty for same issue. However, 2010 not covered despite finding approximately 15 identical 2010 GMC Acadia on NHTSA site. I will be calling dealership first workday, however expect to be told timing chain issue based on codes and that GMC will not cover the repair since I am outside of the 5 year warranty, despite less than their 100,000 mile coverage.

8 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/06/2015

My family and I were driving out of town and then started to feel the car jerk at times and then out of no were it said stability traction control off and reduced power of engine and then engine started to make a terrible noise and shacking like it was going to give out. I could barely pull over. I have taken it several times in to get checked for the stability and they can never find anything wrong and they say its one thing and all I seem to do is pay for something that doesn't need to be fixed. This same issue has happened 3 times since then.

9 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/29/2014

2007 GMC Acadia. . . It has 62000 miles on it & just in March we had a problem with a metal on metal scraping sound(& you could feel it when you braked) like it needed new brakes but brake pads were like new. And the service airbag light is on, then service traction control message, & service stabilitrack message came on too & it started jerking when you hit the brakes like the abs brakes were kicking in. So we took it to robinson's & they turned the rotars & rotated my tires & when I got it back it rode like a dune buggy. Took it back & said it needed new struts cause "something" stayed in a locked position or another. So then we got it back & the scrubbing noise/feeling came back with the brakes again so then they finally just put new brakes on it & so far so good $1000 later! now, this morning I was in a drive thru & it felt like my car was in neutral when I tryed to go forward & I had to look to see if I moved the gears & then I noticed the orange engine light was on. It barely wanted to go & the rpms just kept getting higher & higher & it was struggling to move so I pulled over & had onstar run diagnostics & codes po700 & po716 power train detected malfunction transmissions & transmission not performing as expected!! I noticed after she ran the test my car sounded like it changed back to normal while running so I cut it off & back on & it drove ok back home but now we have to have it looked at & I'm just sick to my stomach over this! it looks like it's gonna be a broken wave plate & ending up resulting in a new transmission I can not afford!!! I know it's 2007 but with such low mileage & in great condition I wouldn't think it should have all these problems especially with the transmission!! I have read so many reports on the same issues which are beyond ridiculous considering how much you pay for these vehicles!!!! this is totally unsafe & needs a recall ASAP!!!.

10 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

As car was accelerating to 30 mph in a lane of traffic into a turn, I heard a loud noise. Then, I couldn't move the steering wheel. I tried to pump the brakes, but the car did not stop immediately. I had no control over the steering, and the car eventually stopped in a parking lot. I was petrified. The radio was still on, and the key was still in the on position, but the key could not be turned. GMC simi valley says the problem was a rod to a cylinder that snapped, and was not due to an ignition problem, or related to a current recall. The whole engine needs to be replaced, almost the value of the car, given its current resale value. I would like to request an investigation into another recall event.

11 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/29/2013

While out shopping with my children when I attempted to turn off the vehicle to depart for the mall, the ignition turned to the off position, I removed the key but the car remained on. I then noticed that the check engine light illuminated. Shortly after, the car began shaking violently; I assume as it was attempting to shut off. I inserted the key, shifted into to reverse, pulled out of spot and then back in again. Proceeded to turn vehicle off and again, key removed but car still running. Again the violent shaking along with loud noises began. Afraid, I instructed my children to leave the vehicle. We got a comfortable distance from the vehicle and continued to watch. It took 25 minutes for the car to shut totally down. When I went back to the car, as I opened the door, I noticed the warning sound as if the key was in the ignition and also although the entire dash was off, the check engine light was still on, (im not sure how since the car was "off" and no key inserted). I drove the car home and the same thing happened when exiting the vehicle. The car remained on, began shaking and the check engine light also stayed on after the car was totally shut down. Very scary experience. I noticed via the internet that this was not a new issue. I wonder why gm would not have corrected this problem with its vehicles by now. I am a single parent and my teenage daughter sometimes has to run errands for me in this vehicle, I would hate for this to happen when im not with her. . . . Its was frightening enough for me!.
