2008 GMC Acadia. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle lift gate problems after lift gate recall repairs. The consumer stated the lift gate no longer opened.
Various gm vehicles have a known defect that allows water from the sun roof drain to enter the passenger compartment and more importantly allows water to enter the passenger compartment fuse block. This defect is covered under service bulletin #08-08-57-003c. This vehicle has had numerous electrical system issues that only occur during heavy rains and the dealer has been unable to recreate the problem after things have dried out so to speak. Most recently after a heavy rain, the battery was dead and when replaced with a new battery, the engine would not shut off even after the key was removed. This is a serious safety concern that can result in injury or death. The only way to shut off the engine is to remove the ecm fuse from the under hood fuse block. Not being able to shut the engine off via the key can have serious life consequences in the event of an emergency. This is a wide spread issue that seems to get worse over time and ends up with not being able to shut the engine off. The gm models affected by the service bulletin as follows: 2008-2012 Buick enclave 2007-2012 GMC Acadia 2007-2010 Saturn outlook.

Water leaks in front driver and passenger side floor boards, hard to tell where the leak is occurring. Water leaks everytime it rains and drips down onto the wiring and airbags. This causes the gas and brake pedals to become slick posing a safety issue. We bought the vehicle used and this is the first few times we've noticed it. Water leaking on the wiring system cant be good everyone knows water and electricity do not mix.
Water water water leaking in vehivle everywhere. Dripping from rear overhead lights, rear back-up sensor, around emergency brake, a-pillars are soaked, pooling on driver side floor. Water and electrical = nothing but problems and more problems. This is now our second Acadia in the last month first was a 07 which water was also leaking from even more areas (opened overhead dvd and water just poured out). That vehicle was fixed per TSB yet problem never solved it just continued to leak. Dealership bought it back once they found us a different Acadia which I now have a 08. They said they found out that the 07's water leaking was a major issue but not with the 08's. Well we signed the papers on March 1st and no suprise water leaking everywhere by March 10th. I contacted GMC and was told to have it diagnosed and then they will pass it on to some other department claim specilist person to see if they can help. Oh yeah and found out from GMC that the TSB for drain tube extensions has already been done on vehicle. I am hopefull that GMC will take care of this issue at their expense. ---with the first vehicle, after water issue started my wife would be driving and the power seat would move all the way forward and she could not stop that from happening. She tried to hit the button to stop the seat from moving but it was non responsive until the seat was all they way forward. My wife as very long legs and said if she would have had to make any sort of emergency manovers she would not have been able to. If GMC does not reslove this issue I plan on start the process of a class action lawsuit for all affected Acadia owners.
Our vehicle sat out in the rain for several hours because we were at our daughter's sporting event in another town. When we came back to our vehicle to drive home, we noticed the carpet was wet and when my husband pulled forward water began to come out of both the third row light and seatbelts. We did our best to clean the water up and planned on contacting the dealership as soon as we could. We drove the car to work the following morning as this is our main vehicle and when my husband shut off the car he noticed that it was making a strange noise. When he tried to restart the car it would not start. We attempted to jump the car, but it would not turn over. We ended up contacting a towing company to take the car to the local dealership. After a month of our car being out of commission, gm and the dealership have determined that there is extensive damage and we will need to have the wiring and circuit boards replaced at a cost of $6000. Gm has completely washed theirs hands of this and continues to say it is an environmental issue and we didn't maintain the sunroof properly (although no documentation was given to inform us that this needed to happen) and clearly they know of the design flaw since they recalled it once for a leaky roof (we had the recall done). There are documented mold issues (which make people sick), airbags that have quit working, defroster motor issues in northern states, in addition to a complete vehicle failure while driving in an undesirable neighborhood. I have owned this car for about a year and since I have owned it have had nothing but problems. First the struts were blown, the dash lights would go from bright to dim, the steering wheel made a clicking noise, the windows leak. . . This car only has 41,000 miles I mean come on! now the transmission has completely failed and after reading other websites it sounds like I will be paying $4,000 dollars. I am a new mom and have 3 step kids. I can't feel safe in my car because I'm worried about it breaking down constantly. Now I have to dump all this money that I don't have into it. I really just want to cut my losses, but is that really the best thing to do? I'm stuck with this junker car and I couldn't feel more sorry for all these other people having the same issues. I'm absolutely miserable. Thanks GMC you suck.
Water leak from either sunroof drain tube or faulty seam seal, caused water to come into vehicle causing floors and doormats to be wet and cause moldy odor. Also caused major corrosion to harness and fuse box. Told there could be more corrosion, but won't know until they pull those parts out. I have researched water leak recalls for GMC Acadia's, and although it is currently not a recall, it is a very common problem that happens in many Acadia's, therefore, I believe this problem should be made a recall! I am told that water leaks are not covered under my limited warranty and they only offered to go half with me on the repairs. Told it will be between $900-$1,600. Even going half on either of those amounts, I do not feel it is fair that I pay anything toward a problem that gm knew about when the Acadia came out in '07. Instead of doing something about it back then, they opted to wait and deal with it on a case to case basis. This is not fair that we consumers have to pay for their poor workmanship! gm should be held accountable for their negligence in selling a vehicle that has proved to have continuous water leaks.
While it was raining outside, I was sitting in the back seat and happened to look up and saw water/ rain trickling out from around the rear interior overhead light, it was also coming in around the sensor in the overhead. The trickle eventually slowed down to a drip. In my opinion, water and electricity don't mix.
Vehicle has been serviced 4 times for water leak that dealer can not find. Water that has leaked inside has caused a malfunction in the fuse block. This caused all lights, including headlights to flicker and gauges to read wrong information. Very dangerous and distracting when driving. Could lead to more serious electrical problems if water continues to leak in.
Anytime we get a heavy rain water makes it's way inside the roof of the vehicle. I've got water coming out of seat belt panels, overhead lights, and all over the place. Water/mold and electricity don't mix.
We bought the Acadia used from a local dealer and the first time it rained significantly water leaked in around the door post at front of vehicle. This leak caused some of the electrical boards to short out which allowed us not to be able to shut the vehicle off even with the key removed. We took it to the dealer, they informed us about the electrical boards and stated the charge to repair. After a call to gm complaint line they repaired the board at no charge to us, but after about 2months same problem accrued same issues. Dealer said water still leaking in but could not find, they dried out the electric connections and said to try it again. After 2months the problem happened again to no help from dealer,my concern is fear of fire from shorted boards or the build up of mold under carpet. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Left front headlamp inoperative. Requires $1200. In repairs. Vehicle unable to be driven at night. This is the most recent issue. Since buying the vehicle new. We have had major engine failure. Transmission failure. Water leaks from moon roof. Which effected the emergency brake monitor system. Recalled washer system . The issue with the headlamp is a defect in design. Though there is a recall for non hid. The wiring on the hid systems is having the same issues. Gm refused to repair the vehicle. Even though it a known defect. I am a master automotive technician and have been for 26 years. I will provide expert testimony along with the cause of defect. This is a safety concern from 2 aspects fire and safely driving the vehicle.
I entered approximate date that I first reported to the dealership the condition of the leather seats. The leather seats are pealing. The sun visor broke off from the mirror. The console was pealing. I reported these before that time, but had to wait until the gentleman at the dealership was available. I was not pleased with the way he treated me. He acted as if I was not Smart in reference to my problems and was blaming it on wear and tear. Also I now have a headlight that has moisture in it. The dealership checked it for leaks and none were found, so how does that happen. I just had recall on light, but was inside the light. Now this is how I feel about that. It is me and my granddaughter and she was 12 when I purchased the vehicle. We used it for day to day travels and traveling. I have been and continue to be very careful and so does my granddaughter, with the way we take care of this vehicle. I am so disappointed in the fact that it was not taken care of properly. I never heard from the district representative regarding these problems and he told me she/he would get with me. GMC contacted me and the dealer several times and now it is still the same. GMC has really failed in their job in working with customers with problems.
Transmission dead-racing rpm without gear shifting, broken wave plate inside transmission is the cause. Water leaking from sunroof when raining, constant whinning in steering column. All these major problems under 75k miles.
We have experienced recurring leaks in roof of vehicle, apparently related to problems with sunroof drains, resulting in issues with electrical system (intermittent problems with stereo, windows, power locks, power mirrors, etc. ) very concerned about impact on air bags.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 GMC Acadia. The contact stated whenever the gear was shifted into the park position, the four automatic doors would unlock without intent. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on four different times for the similar failure and they stated the doors operated normally. In addition, the silver and chrome trim around the entire dashboard, and console area would obstruct the vision when sunlight strikes the trim. The contact was in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 100. Js.

Known issue with this vehicle- was never notified of defect. Significant water leak from somewhere in roof into passenger compartment at a posts and into dash area.
The vehicle leaks water on both the right and left floor boards and appears to be also coming down the back of the front dash. This occurs in light rain up to severe rain. It has been dealer repaired (sealed and gasket material applied) and that seamed to work the first time for a while and now it is leaking in the same place again.
I bought a 2007 GMC Acadia brand new. Recently have been having serious water leaks on passenger side. The areas are the seatbelt area and near the floorboard. This happens everytime it rains and happens rather quickly in the floorboard area. Several towels get soaked within an hour. My family and I are dependent on this vehicle to get us to school and work. Feeling very unsure of purchasing from gm again due to the fact I've read so many other complaints and no action being taken on their part. My young children and I did love this vehicle but now are scared to go out anywhere when it is raining.
I purchased a 2007 GMC Acadia slt-2 and I have now experienced 3 water leaks inside the vehicle due to drain tubes clogging. The car fills up with water on the driver and passenger side floors. I was told before I bought the car that drain tube extensions were installed but this has not corrected the problem it is unbelievable to think that GMC is selling a forty thousand dollar car with these design issues. Just paid dealer $ 100. 00 to fix the last time it happened. How long before I am swimming in my car again? mold issues maybe.
I purchased brand new from GMC dealership a 2007 GMC Acadia. About a year later after heavy rains, I had water leaking from the sunroof and dvd player area. I did receive a recall notice about bad roof drain tubes. Took Acadia into dealership feb20, 2009 to get installed/repaired. Year later, Feb 18, 2010, had to again, take Acadia into dealership for same issue. Water coming thru light fixtures now. But they replaced seal on sunroof. On may 17,2010, returned to dealership because again, water leaking into car. Said they water tested car and found no problems. (they told me it's because I park my car on a incline driveway. ) arrived to take my car home, but they stopped me because when they washed my car, they noticed water leaking from the roof (same areas as before). They "fixed" the problem again, and returned Acadia to me. And yesterday, 2 months later, I returned to the dealership for same water leak issue. Again, told me not to park on incline. They resealed rear sunroof, removed headliner and sunroof frame and sealed drain holes per bulletin. Same day there was rains, and no more than 6 hours later, Acadia is still leaking water on front passenger side. Carpet soaking wet and the smell of mildew is setting in. Total of 4 attempts to fix leaking water in Acadia. Not fixed yet. (for the record, the Acadia is a great crossover vehicle. The only issue I have with it is the leaking roof. ).
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that on March 20, 2010 while driving at approximately 40 mph in snowy conditions with rocks and debris on the road, he heard a loud clanking noise under the vehicle. The noise was followed by the check engine light which illuminated on the instrument panel. When the contact attempted to accelerate at a traffic light, the vehicle would not move. The police responded but no report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local authorized dealership where the contact was informed that a rock under the vehicle cut the harness wire since it was unprotected. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,800. The current mileage was approximately 41,000.
I purchased my GMC Acadia '08 slt-2 in February, 2008 from the first owner with only 4800 miles. A month later, I noticed water dripping from underneath the glove box and immediately took it in for the "recall. " they "fixed" it, and much to my delight, I had no problem until about two weeks ago (almost a year with no water). Then I noticed the leak again--same spot. I took the car back to the dealer, and they attempted the repair once more, claiming it was some sort of loose grommet. Again, they "fixed" the problem and sent me on my merry way. The next day, it poured, and even more water came from behind the glove box. I again took the car in, and this time, they held it for three days and apparently found two leaks, the more significant of which was from the lack of adequate silicone fastening the plastic shield underneath the windshield wipers. I picked the car up this morning, and like the rest of the country, we in new england are experiencing heavy downpours. . . And alas, the car is still leaking. I must say that the customer service team at colonial GMC in watertown (MA) has been extraordinarily kind and accommodating, but they still have yet to fix the problem.
This is in regards to the window seal on the driver and passenger window. It holds water in the seal and has a very strong offensive mold/mildew odor. Each time you roll down either window the smell is so strong that your allergies are immediately affected. I don't think it is healthy to constantly smell mold when you're driving your vehicle. I took it to the dealer a couple of times and they agreed that it was horrible, but only suggested that I take an air hose and blow out the trapped water. That doesn't work because each time it rains or you wash your vehicle it smells again. I hate driving a newer vehicle that smells like a molded trash container. I would like a better solution for this never ending problem.
Water entering interior of the vehicle. Points of entry include: side air bag openings, foot emergency brake(which is located near vehicle electrical components) shoulder seat belt openings and through dvd screen. This is the second time my vehicle has been service for this complaint. The headliner was removed and repairs have been attempted. My concern are with the damage to air bag output in emergency due to water, electrical component damage such as dvd player and electrical component by emergency brake and also the moisture the interior of the vehicle has been exposed to for mold and mildew.

Gm instituted recall campaign #08207: customer satisfaction - sunroof water leak-install drain tube extensions dated: Aug 27, 2008. Campaign was preceded by numerous tsbs linked to the same type of water leak. After first leak in oct08, brought vehicle in for the recall and experienced 2 subsequent leaks since the initial recall repair as a result of the same condition. Have had mold in the carpet and padding on 2 separate occasions. Have had significant corrosion in one of the 2 main fuse blocks to the point where srvc. Tech at the dealership could not turn vehicle off using the ignition key. Vehicle leaks after driving in rain. Have service invoices stating that dealer performed water tests after each repair and found no leak yet vehicle has leaked after every repair. Have detailed color photos of soaked wires, saturated headliner, mold damage and corroded fuse block. Vehicle was only driven a total of 689 miles from date of the initial leak to date of the third leak. During third leak, water also dripped from vehicles rear display onto third row seats. I feel that gm knew about this problem from the beginning because their aug08 #08207 recall actually identified VIN breakpoints of the affected vehicles. Instead, gm chose to deal with it on a case-to-case basis and it has become a very serious issue. The consequences of the water damage can and have already been far-reaching and potentially could injure, kill or affect the health of owners of these vehicles. Consider opening defect investigation, order gm to do safety recall to fix problem before someone is seriously injured. This deserves some press.
Entered my fairly new 2008 GMC Acadia this morning and was greeted with a puddle on the passenger seat and the door jams leaking to a point where the roof liner was also soaked. I am now afraid the water may compromise the air bags and speakers that are located near the leak. Not to mention the odor that will occur from having soaked carpet in a vehicle. I don't believe a vehicle with 10,000 miles and cost me 36,000 dollars new should ever leak.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. Whenever it rains, the contact's vehicle leaks badly through the sunroof. The dealer repaired the vehicle, but water began leaking through the windshield and is currently leaking in the rear of the vehicle. The contact is concerned about mold issues. Whenever she takes the vehicle to the dealer, she is informed that the vehicle has been repaired. However, the leaking recurs once she retrieves her vehicle. The failure mileage was 27,214. 4/01/09 updated 04/06/09.
Water leaking from sunroof - leaks from both airbag areas, above sunvisors and through seatbelts. Have serviced two times and will be going back a third time this week. First occurred 6 days after taking car off lot, then again 1 month later and now 18 days later (each time it has been in the rain). First time, took out windshield and replaced, thinking it was loose seal. Second time said the strip around the sunroof was flat and replaced it. This time they think the front drainage tubes are not working and are backing up into the inside and leaking. The mechanic rode with me and could feel the water puddling up in the sunroof. I am afraid the water will create mold and mildew, as well as get into the electrical components of the vehicle. The water pours out of the front sides and onto the steering wheel as you are driving.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. After rainy weather conditions, the front driver's side of the vehicle sustained water leakage from the sunroof. The front passenger side exhibited excessive water accumulation on the floor area and a strong odor in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The vehicle was repaired and the floor panel was replaced. In addition, the front driver's side door failed to lock. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on seven separate occasions for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. The contact stated that if the moisture issue remained uncorrected, mold could form in the vehicle. The vehicle is currently at an authorized dealer for repair. The failure mileage was 16,000 and current mileage was 19,000. Updated 1/26/09 *cnthe gas cap was cracked, there was a vibration coming from the front of the vehicle. The dealer machined the rotors, the vehicle pulled to the left, the tire pressure monitor light illuminated, but the dealer could not duplicate the consumer's concern. Updated 01/26/09.
This is the second time, within two weeks, I have taken my GMC Acadia slt2 awd 2008 to be serviced for a leaky sunroof. I am getting major water damage in the wiring system, and airbag holder. I have more miles on my rental van, then my brand new Acadia.
