Alternator/generator/regulator problems of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Four problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 2004 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2015

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xl 370. While driving at 25 mph, the gauges failed, the battery warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted and the battery warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the alternator and the battery, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2007

I purchased a 2004 GMC Envoy xuv preowned in 2005 still under warranty. It began dimming the lights in the dash board and at the radio area, I took it in to GMC for service and was told that they didn't find anything wrong with my vehicle. On another occasion my car would get louder underneath the hood if I sat idling for a few minutes in a drive through for example, I took it in once again and was told that it was normal nothing was found to be wrong. Now my odometer works off and on as does my oil gauge. Now that my warranty is out I would have to foot the bill to a few problems that I have pointed out to the GMC dealer ship on more than one occasion. I have even gone as far as to ask if there were any recalls and was told no there were not. At one point my middle window fell down while I was driving I took it to GMC to find out the problem and was told it was the regulator, insurance did not cover this and the warranty had run out. Approximately 2-3 weeks later my back window would not go up or down therefore the tailgate would not open, back to GMC I went and was told it was the regulator once again, at this point I asked again about recalls and why both regulators would go bad within weeks of one another, I was told it was a coincidence. Just as recent as July 24 my power locks began locking and unlocking on there own even while I'm driving down the street. I had the battery checked and it all checked out fine. At this point I would not recommend GMC to anyone or buy another! help.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2006

Headlights, interior lights, all lights on vehicle flicker while driving on the highway. The vehicle does this when there is no apparent load on the electrical system (I. E. Blower, defroster, ac, power seats, windows etc. ) the lights become very dim and then bright again in the matter of a few seconds. This can be dangerous to vehicles in front of you and approaching as they believe they are getting "flashed" by your vehicle. It is very unnerving driving with this random occurrence.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2006

I have 2004 Envoy have had problems with alternator. Started about 6 months after I bought the Envoy had I replaced 3 times then started having problems with back seat window on passenger side not rolling up. Then my girlfriend had a flat on side of road and could not get spare down I had to go out and cut the cable that holds it up. That is a unsafe thing to do on side of hwy should not take 45 min to get spare down. Headlights dim and brighten gets dim enough that makes hard to see.
