Three problems related to starter have been reported for the 2004 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Xuv would not shift out of 3rd. Vehicle sat over night and would not start the next day. Dealer checked all systems, replaced ignition switch. Two weeks later, vehicle would not start. It was determined the starter was bad, it was replaced. Now the speedometer is going haywire like others. Mechanic stated it would cost over $700 to replace components.
2004 GMC Envoy SUV, 45,xxx miles. November 2009 Envoy would not hold charge (new battery replaced 7-09), jumped Envoy and would loose charge, keys always were locked in vehicle ignition. April 2010 again, vehicle would not hold charge (something draining battery - nothing left on). Took vehicle to mechanic, no problems located, mechanic replaced 7-09 battery (free), drove vehicle 4 days and did not drive for 5 days - again vehicle would not start (no lights, etc) jumped vehicle off. Took vehicle back to mechanic, nothing indicated in starter, alternator, battery - nothing was left on. Took home again same problem 4 days running, 6 days did not drive, vehicle will not start; had to jump off again. It is currently at the mechanic. In the meantime I researched and found gm bulletin 04-06-03-002 for "misindexed ignition switch"; numerous reports online of same issue. Currently Envoy is at mechanic after I reported gm bulletin.
Electrical problems. I have had both rear tailgate sensors go out at the same time. I have the speedometer acting erratically off and on off and on. I have had the starter switch go out twice.
