Engine suddenly stopped running, placed shift lever to park position. Engine would not restart. Transmission was now locked in park, causing inability to push vehicle to safety. Repair by GMC dealer involved repairing electrical short in factory wiring under dashboard at the firewall, in the area of the brake booster mount. Apparent cause is improper routing of wiring at time of vehicle mfr, causing abrasion of wiring over time.

Engine wouldn't crank at times. Starts normally when it does. After about a week of having this problem I took a the car in for service. Diagnostics determined the ignition switch was bad and should be replaced. I had the ignition switch replaced 14 months and 6070 miles prior to this incident. They replaced the ignition switch. The part was under warranty but diagnostics and labor was $220. The first ignition switch failed at 65-70 mph on the freeway. I understand that gm has recalled ignition switches on several models but the Envoy is not part of that recall. Obviously my vehicle has the same problem as the recalled vehicles, why is it not part of the recall? this is a very dangerous problem. Since the rest of the electronics are connected to the ignition I have no safety equipment such as air bags. If I would have been in an accident, it could have been fatal.

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 42,230. Pmb.
As I was driving the vehicle, the dashboard lit up and the odometer and all the information systems went to zero. This has happened often over the years. I took it to two GMC car dealerships and the first one said it was the kill switch installed by a buy here pay here dealership. The kill switch was removed and the dashboard continued to flicker. Then the car would not start, I took it to another dealership and was told they couldn't find anything. The car began to tribble, again I took it in and was told that I needed to clean the fuel injection system. I did that and bought a battery but that didn't help. The tow driver said it seems to be something electrical but the car dealership can't find a solution. Have you had this complaint before? not to confuse the complaint, I have several issues. 1. Dashboard lights up and the information panels shut down (all are at zero) 2. The odometer goes to zero and the instrument cluster is black 3. Tribble underneath while driving feels as if the car is shaking thank you for any assistance you can provide.
2005 GMC Envoy doors and windows failed to open. Consumer states that the doors and windows failed to open. He also states that the vehicle would not start when his wife tried to start it.
The vehicle would not start, due to an open ignition switch. The vehicle continued to have the same issue of an open ignition switch. The consumer requested that the manufacturer replace the vehicle.

In oct. 2003, I was driving to work in rush hour traffic and upon coming to a traffic light my Envoy stalled out and instrument panel went blank; car would not restart & message displayed to service engine & contact onstar, I was unable to get Envoy off of road & sat there for 45 minutes waiting for tow truck to tow vehicle to royal Oldsmobile where they said they replaced computer system; since that time in Jan 2004 vehicle was in garage & would not start; vehicle was pushed out of garage & battery was recharged with jumper cables; vehicle was taken to royal Oldsmobile & I was told that battery was leaking & that they had replaced battery; this vehicle has been the most unreliable vehicle I have ever had; I am leasing this Envoy & I am afraid it will stall out again; also last summer without warning, the air conditioning just quit working while driving on vacation; after Envoy was cut off & engine cooled, then air conditioning started working again; this is a leased vehicle & I want to know who I can talk to about turning vehicle in early & also what information is available about Envoy stalling out without warning.
