1 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/25/2019

My dash panel gauges began failing one by one. My headlights will sometimes not come on after starting the car with the headlight switch on auto. A flick of the headlight switch in and off, does not make the headlights come on. Sometimes they come on after driving around, and then will go off without touching the switch. Now, my side brakelights will not operate correctly when the brake pedal is pressed. Only the third brake light illuminates.

3 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Driving at 20 miles an hour and hear a crackling noise in driver door panel. Window rolled up on it's own, side mirrors began to readjust themselves and heated seat came on. When noise quit I had lost all control of panel controls. Called gm dealer to get it in for the recall on master switch and was told there were no parts or remedy from gm as of yet. Recall came out a couple months ago. Called another dealer and told the same thing. I called direct to gm and was told there was no solution at this time. I had no window control, car will not lock, side mirrors pointed down to ground so I can't use them. I called back and asked why a recall was issued when there were no replacement parts on a safety issue such as this. Kids can open doors, can't change lanes on highway do to mirrors and can't use windows. As I continued to drive the crackling came back and seat reheated, mirrors repositioned, and window tries to go down. I called again and was told I could set an appointment and would have to pay up front and then get reimbursed from gm. I told them I would not under any circumstances. They would review and get back with me in 24-48 hours. Nothing so far. This morning while driving in the dark the noise started again and I lost my headlights, black, nothing. Sitting at a stop sign today, car running and in drive, I lost all dash panel gauges for about 30 seconds. Car still ran and everythig came back. Fearful of a wreck and having kids in the car with no safety locks. I can't manually lock hatch so I am at risk of an easy break in and I am in the medical field and travel with supplies that must be locked up. Never by another GMC something needs to be done!!!!.

4 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/23/2013

I had trouble with the gauge that shows overheating. I took the car in to put in a thermostat thinking it was the problem, but when I took it in they said that my cluster was bad and the gauges were messed up. I paid $392. 00 for the cluster and $100. 00 for labor. I bought this vehicle used with 119,000 miles on it on 6/20/2011 and on 2/23/2013 I had the cluster replaced with mileage of 132,356. I put on new brakes at this time since the had a habit of grabbing and making me slide and jerk to a stop. The only problem I have now is the the door locks mess up once in awhile but other than that I take my Envoy in every 4000 miles for an oil change and a check up it is now 12/15/2015 and I only have 142,000 miles on it and it is still running ok. I keep checking once a month for recalls on my vehicle sometimes a dome light will come on . But not often. My Envoy has not rust and the interior is in as good as it was when I purchased it from the previous owner which is in excellent condition.

5 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/14/2012

Initially the amp gauge pegged out followed within a month by the speedometer giving up or sometimes reading 120 mph while sitting at a red light. I was told that this was a common problem and could be repaired at a cost of about $600. Not being able to afford that at the time, I installed a gps unit so I would have some type of speedometer. Within 2 mos. Time the car stalled upon takeoff from a light with ringing bells, the dash warning lights dimly lit and the tachometer bouncing from 500 to 2500 rpms while the engine was stopped. The car would not re-start until the key was turned off once or twice and the warning lights lit brightly. This problem has been recurring more and more frequently sometimes at highway speeds over 65mph. I'm told gm is well aware of the problem but refuses to issue a recall because it is not mandated as a "safety problem". I drive the interstates for a living and have nearly been rear ended numerous times already. How can this not be a safety issue and how can a company which took millions of taxpayer bailout money not be forced to deal with this issue.

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

2005 Envoy instrument cluster going bad. It will seem fine then the mph go way off and who knows if you can trust the other gauges while on the road. Ive read that most GMC Envoys have this problem and GMC is not ackknowleging the known problem. Dealership said it will cost me 575 dollars to have it replaced.

9 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

First my speedometer stopped registering a speed followed by the gas gauge going out. My radio goes in and out (more out than in), my sunroof started opening and closing on its own when turning the car on and off, and the roof leaks around where the visor is when it rains hard. I have seen many other consumers with these same problems and would really like to have these problems addressed by someone at GMC.

10 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/13/2010

Out of nowhere my front head lights went out. Its not the fuse or the bulbs, both front low lights went out. The high beams work. There is no power going to the lights and I have to buy a new switch. I also had to replace the engine almost a year ago because the o rings went up. The gas gauge is broken and my passenger window will not go down. I feel so stuck with this car!.

11 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/04/2010

The owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the instrument cluster failed and the contact was unable to determine what speed he was traveling, the amount of fuel in the fuel tank, the oil levels, battery level and vehicle temperature, all of which the gauges failed to operate. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer stated that the entire instrument cluster would need to be replaced. The contact noticed numerous complaints online regarding the instrument cluster and believed the manufacturer should issue a recall. The failure mileage was 90,000.

12 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/23/2009

Speedometer failed at 44,000 miles. Gas gauge misreads. Instrument cluster is being replace by GMC on other models with the same cluster but they decided not to replace the Envoys cluster. GMC knows that they have clusters that fail and have even been monetary reimbursement by other companies to replace but still do not replace for the Envoys.

13 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

I have had 2 problems with this vehicle. The first one was at 28000 miles, about 3 weeks after I bought the vehicle. The resistor for the heat/ac fan caught fire while I was driving at about 5 mph in heavy traffic. The fire went out on it's own by the time I had room to pull over (about 15-20 seconds). I was unable to get the part replaced right away so I had to drive around in cold and icy conditions without even being able to run the defroster. The second problem was that at about 32000 miles my gas gauge broke. I had just filled the tank and was driving at about 65 on the highway. The gas gauge needle dropped to empty and stayed there. I made sure that I was not leaking gasoline and continued on my way. It worked intermittently for a while but is now completely broken. When I fill up my tank the engine light comes on for the first 25-100 miles and the gauge reads empty with the fuel light on. I am uncomfortable with using the 4wd or towing very much because even though I keep track of miles driven these things eat up more fuel. I don't want to run out of gas in the middle of the road. I have not gotten it fixed because of the repair cost.

14 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

Check engine light accompanied by engine cut-off when cold weather since November 2009. Twice GMC dealership couldn't duplicate issue and no idea for check engine light. New development of fuel gauge failure each time of gas fill-up accompanied by fluctuating fuel level indicator. Clicking noise coming from gas pedal for 3 years with increasing frequency. Electrical system including gauges, speedometer, power steering noise, cruise control seem to be having issues. Dealership claims no recalls, but electrical issues appear to be common according to edmunds. Com forums for GMC Envoys.

15 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/28/2009

Instrument panel cluster is failing. My speedometer has totally quit working. My gas gauge is starting to fail also. I checked on the internet and found that GMC has admitted the stepping motors are defective, on the instrument panel cluster gauges for my 2003 GMC Envoy. A class lawsuit has been filed, according to the internet . According to the internet, this is a common problem for 2003-2007 GMC's. The cost of the repair is appx. $800. 00. I cannot afford this repair. I am forced to drive without knowing my correct speed, due to the speedometer not working. Soon I will not know . . . . How much gas I have in my GMC. According to the internet my other gauges will soon fail. I purchased my GMC brand new for $38,000. I feel my GMC Envoy is unsafe, due to the reasons I have just listed. I feel GMC should pay for this repair as, it is unsafe for me to operate the GMC like this. I would like to be included in the class action lawsuit. The failure is constant. . . No speedometer. This could cause my to drive over the legal speed limit with out my knowledge, which is unsafe. I have done nothing to correct the failure as yet. At this time I cannot afford the cost of the repair.

16 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/06/2009

Faulty speedometer in 2004 GMC Envoy, bad steeper motors in all 6 gauges. Speedometer inaccurate, will go past 120mph, will affect tach eventually, all gauges will go bad. The problem is faulty steeper motors gm was supplied these by delphi electronics. Gm won a class action suit, why no relief to Envoy owners? this affects all 2003-2004 Envoys, they were included in the original service bulletin then removed? why no recall on these items gm is aware of this but as of today no action has been taken.

17 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

Dash gauges/ first the oil level gauge died, then the speedometer started acting up, it will say your going 200 mph, when your standing still. . . Then the speakers and the radio started acting up, work, don't work. . . Really concerned about speedometer, and if other gauges will follow suit.

18 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/24/2009

My vehicle's instrument cluster fails on a regular basis after checking into the situation with gm dealers there is a recall on the sierra's and yukons which have the same cluster as my vehicle but gm refuses to stand behind the defect on the Envoys. Parts have not been replaced yet on my vehicle hoping that gm will wake up and realize this is a common problem on the Envoys and that it requires attention. The issue occurs on a regular basis normally several times per month, after a few days the cluster will reset and work as normal but has been very frustrating to deal with. When problem occurs I have to use my gps navigator to tell what speed I am traveling. The cost of the replacement is approx. $650. 00.

19 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/02/2009

Speedometer and dashboard failure on 2003 GMC Envoy occurring spontaneously at approximately 50,000 miles. Gm dealer would replace for $350 plus labor last January when vehicle had less than 70,000. 00. Unable to afford this cost after a general service, however the complaint is filed with gm dealership in Jan 2009. Car is now over 70,000. Miles. I am realizing that this is not an isolated situation and there have been many complaints. Is there a commitment from gm that they will repair this issue for cars with mileage under 70,000. 00? I believe this issue should be investigated for a re-call regardless of mileage. Please direct me with the appropriate action measures so that I may remedy this situation promptly.

20 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/02/2009

Noticed periodic instrument cluster failure/accuracy problems. Speedometer will sometimes work or work erratically so I have no idea how fast I am going. I researched on the web and found this is very typical for this model. I called my dealership and was told that they will only repair (no cost) the GMC pickups and not my SUV model even though they have same problem with the same part. This presents a very dangerous condition regardless of what vehicle this is in. Winter driving conditions in mn require diligence in speed and braking, this is a huge and dangerous problem for GMC and they are just ignoring certain models for warranty repair and forcing the consumer to spend $500. 00 (est. ) to fix there problem!.

21 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 11/26/2008

Speedometer quick working. Dealer diagnosed instrument cluster failure. Repair estimate for parts and labor in excess of $600. Potential loss of all gauges while driving prior to repair.

22 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/21/2008

My 2004 GMC Envoy speedometer and gas gauge has gone bad. It will not zero out and operates erratically.

23 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/04/2008

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy that the instrument cluster went bad on and the dealer want $900. 00 to repair. On the internet that there are alot of GMC SUV's with the same problem. I, as well, have been fighting with gm for replacement of the instrument panel on my 2004 Envoy. The car had 48k miles on it when the problem started, but it had 56k when it was taken to the dealership. It was required that I have the problem officially diagnosed, which cost me $85. I was assured that I would get that amount credited toward the fix. Scheduled to get yet another update call from gm tomorrow. Shortly after I paid out the $85 and sent them my information, I received both an email and a phone call saying "sorry, we can't offer any assistance". I called them right back to escalate it further. I'm pushing it as far as I can. The representative told me that there haven't been enough complaints with the Envoys yet, although she admitted that there have been a lot, and because of this obvious problem, the cases would be handled on an individual basis at this point. What more proof do we need?.

24 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/23/2008

This past weekend 08-23-08 and 08-24-08. The analog dash cluster went out on my 2004 gms Envoy. When it went out I mean completely out no tach, speed or and or the gauges worked. This happened while I was driving. I took the vehicle to the dealership right away. It was checked and confirmed that the dash cluster was not getting any power. This can be a safety hazard for the reason being if it where to happen while driving like it did to me. It could be a contributing factor in an accident. Not know how fast one is going can be very dangerous. There is a new dash cluster on order which should be installed by Wednesday 08-27-08.

25 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/17/2008

Speedometer cluster failure. I know of 3 cluster failures in the last 4 months. That's just my neighbor and my sister and myself. This is a 500. 00 repair and I'm sure that this can't be isolated occurrences.

26 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/15/2008

Speedometer was on 80mps everytime I started the car, I would turn the motor off sever times to bring it down about 5mps, until that quite working completely. My sister-in-law had the same problem with hers at the same time I did. Well, I went to get my fixed they said it wasn't covered under a warrenty and the cost was high at the time so I had to barrow a gps system to use to clock my speed. Then the gas gauge went out. Would have to wait until my gas light came on to let me know when I was running lowand when I would put gas in my car, I would have to try and start it 3-4 times before it would start. My car is in the shop today, and after alot of research I notice alot of people have the same problem, and GMC does not want to take no credit for their error.

27 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/18/2007

I was returning from lunch, going over the vincent thomas bridge in l. A. Harbor. I looked out at the beautiful scenery, then looked at my speedometer. I was going 90 mph. I started to panic and went for the brake. My other senses kicked in and said "your not going 90 mph" . I looked around and nothing was wrong with my speed. The speedometer "said" all kinds of numbers. When I parked, I think it said 40mph. That was two months ago. Since then the speedometer has read all kinds of wierd numbers. Sometimes it is actually pretty close, then it goes off the charts to 140mph. I had the dealer check it out, the vehicle has 79,000 miles. The dealer said that gm would cover it up to 70,000 miles. The dealer wanted $325. 00 for the part and $200. 00 to install it. I said no so he charged me $45. 00 to check the electrical. Besides the safety factors, what really bothered me was two things. 1) the dealer made this seem like an isolated case. This situaton is all over the internet. The dealer should have simply said "it's probally a stepper motor, it is a known problem,$ 500. 00 to fix". Instead he played dumb and checked over my vehicle for $45. 00. The second thing is, I took the instrument cluster out to take a look. It took me 15 minutes. Where does the dealer come up with $200. 00 the vehicle is substandard. Instead of owning up to the situation, the dealer used this situation to make money. There is a class action suit started and it is proper. Gm could fix all these vehicles for less than $50. 00 a piece, if they were Smart. Instead there are hundreds, maybe thousands of gm customers who have stated on the internet that they will never buy a gm product again. Go figure!.

28 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

All gauges fail then turn back on, warning bell continues to ring dashboard goes through system check and bell goes off at each check, such as unknown driver, door ajar, ect. Gauges may go dead and come back to live several times within a short trip. When gauges work the alarm bell continues to ring even when driving.

29 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/26/2007

Right after purchasing. Engine light has been on. Purchased in June/2006, with 40,000miles. 1yr after the rpm gauge quit working, right afterwards, the fuel gauge started messing up, going back & forth, then went out completely, battery/oil gauges are out now. The seat belt lights/airbag lights bing constantly & does not tighten up when put on brakes. When this happens the check gauges light comes on, and at the same time I have difficulty getting it in gear. I am also having trouble setting my cruise control.

30 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/16/2007

Bought my 05 Envoy xl with about 55000 miles since then the fuel gauge reads empty when its full. The oil pressure gauge is maxed out but it will work normal every once in a while. The speedo reads faster than im going or just maxes out. If I turn the cr off and on it will work its way back to normal for awhile. The stereo will not work if it is colder than 60 degrees out. Talked to dealership and GMC customer service they did nothing.

31 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/02/2006

Dash indicator lights come on and stay on when temperatures are cold, mostly air bag, abs, parking brake light, all gauges do not work except speedometer. This problem has no trend other than when it is cold outside, could be coincidental. At times the check engine light was on with other lights. My vehicle only had 18,000 miles on it when this started, but the 3 year warranty was over. GMC will not troubleshoot this problem unless I pay them almost $100 to start, and then a hourly fee. At times, these conditions exist and then later the instruments start working. Does not seem to correlate to vehicle temperature. Lights often stay on during entire trip and gauges are all off. When everything suddenly starts working correctly it does not appear to be because of a bump or warming of the vehicle. In December I took vehicle to GMC, and the service representative indicated problems on work order. He put check battery, of course no troubleshooting took place. Since then I have contacted several GMC dealerships, they all want ridiculous fees to check it out. This vehicle has been kept in the heated garage and barely driven until January 2007. I think this is a safety issue because I don't know if it could cause a fire in the wiring. When the gauges are out, it is not possible to see how much gas you have or if oil/water is low. There is no way to monitor the functioning of the vehicle, or the air bags or the brake system.
