GMC Envoy owners have reported 15 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My Envoy's cruise control will not engage at any speed above 60 mph. When the cruise control button is pressed the cruise control light will come on and go off again, without engaging the cruise control setting. However, at anything 55 and under the cruise control will engage fine. Also my 4x4 will not work either.

The cruise control is intermittent.
I bought the car used Feb. 2011 about March 2011 sometimes when it is started (no specific start time) the check engine light will be on (not always) and the car will die while driving approximately 25 to 35 miles per hour. This is not a all the time problem, and I cannot find a reason why some days it does this and some days it doesn't. Also sometimes the cruise control works and sometimes it doesn't. . Also sometimes the wipers stop in mid swipe.

2004 GMC Envoy xl speedometer and tachometer inaccurate readings. Speedometer readings some as high as 115-120. Have no idea the actual speed at which I am travelling. Terrified to think of using cruise control when travelling interstates many times each year. Have reviewed online comments and I am not the only person experiencing this problem. Gm/GMC appears to know about the problem based on the comments and dealer/service responses. Stands to reason that a faulty instrument panel could affect other functions of car. Not knowing speed at which I am travelling is dire safety issue. What has ntsha done to address this issue with gm/GMC?.
Car lurched forward and engine speeded up when pulling into my driveway at home. Most of my dashboard gauges have been failing over the last year including the speedometer. I was using the cruise control prior to the event. I think it may be related to the computer. I was able to stop the car by turning off the engine. The brakes would not stop the car. The dealer has advise me that they know about the instrument panel failing but no recall has been issued.
I was driving on the highway with the cruise control on. When I tapped the brakes to turn off cruise control, my speedometer was stuck at my cruise control speed of 65. My vehicle came to a complete stop and my speedometer backed off to 45 mph, but would not return to zero. After stopping, then turning onto another highway, my speedometer was still stuck at 45 mph. My cruise control was previously set at the speed limit for the highway at 65 mph and I hit the button to resume cruise control. When I reached my destination, I turned my vehicle off, thinking it would reset to zero without power; yet, it is still stuck at 45 mph and my car is off and parked in my driveway.
2005 GMC Envoy denali w/37,800 miles. On several occasions, while completely stopped, the vehicle would slightly lunge forward as if going to accelerate although the brake was engaged. When local GMC service dept. Was called by owner to inquire about problem, service tech said he had no reports of such situation. The surge happened again on 10/31/08 and there was a passenger in the vehicle who also experienced the sensation. On 11/17/08 while at a complete stop, after turning wheels sharply to the right to go around a road equipment vehicle in the parking lot, upon removing foot from brake, the denali lunged forward enough to bump the tire of the equipment vehicle and then it accelerated as if the cruise control was activated. There were no brakes when an effort was made to stop the vehicle. Steering of vehicle was hard due to power steering failure . Vehicle jumped upon a curb, driver forcefully turned steering wheel to avoid hitting a brick building as acceleration was still ongoing. Vehicle crashed through a steel garage door and continued until it crashed into a retaining column at which time the motor was turned off. The impact of the collision could be felt up to the second floor of the building. The driver was wearing a seat belt. The onstar services did not initiate response to driver despite the fact that the front bumper of the vehicle was no longer attached to the vehicle, nor did the driver airbag deploy upon impact. Vehicle was towed away from the scene. Driver was transported to hospital by ems for injury evaluation. Several witnesses described incident as "vehicle out of control". Updated 10/29/10.

Right after purchasing. Engine light has been on. Purchased in June/2006, with 40,000miles. 1yr after the rpm gauge quit working, right afterwards, the fuel gauge started messing up, going back & forth, then went out completely, battery/oil gauges are out now. The seat belt lights/airbag lights bing constantly & does not tighten up when put on brakes. When this happens the check gauges light comes on, and at the same time I have difficulty getting it in gear. I am also having trouble setting my cruise control.
I purchased a 2004 GMC Envoy with approximately 50000 miles on it in may of 2006. About 4 months later, the speedometer started acting slightly erratic, reporting speeds varying by 10-20 mph (I. E. On the highway, keeping up with traffic at 65 mph, the speedometer would report 45 mph or sometimes 80 mph. Over the past few weeks, the problem has gotten much worse, with the speedometer reporting 120 mph at highways speeds, and 50 mph at a stop, sometimes not registering any speed at all (o mph). The cruise control has also stopped working, which I am assuming is related to the speedometer malfunction. I searched online, and apparently there are many other GMC owners with the same exact problem. . Read more...
The contact stated while driving, the reduce power engine and oil pressure low, check engine ights illuminated. The vehicle stopped, although, the enginewas still running. The dealership was unable to diagnose a problem, but replaced the tank gasket, gas pedal, and computer chip. This caused the contact to rear end another vehicle.

- the contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The headlights, dashboard, and tail lights flashed randomly at any speed, this failure started in October of 2006. The weather and time of day were not factors in the failure. The dealership said that the failure was normal. There were tsbs for the failure, as well as for several others. The fuel neck had been replaced twice due to a design change. The seal around the licenses place holder came loose and had to be replaced. The brake pedal was squeaking, the contact took vehicle for service on three occasions, and replaced the serpentine belt twice, an airbag sensor, the rear wiper arm, the oxygen sensor twice ,the first time at 7000 miles. There were cruise control failures, when the contact tried to accelerate it hesitated and then surged. The weather stripping on the rear doors has been repaired three times. The abs would skip on a bumpy road and would not engage. At one point the contact could smell fuel in the passenger compartment and vehicle had very poor gas mileage, the dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, but air valve became stuck and would not close. The rear door hinges squeaked. This winter it won't go to full voltage until a minute elapsed after the vehicle has been started. The original failure mileage was 3829, and the current mileage was 23700. The brakes were inoperative, the belts squeaked, there was a problem with the abs, the air bag light illuminated, the cruise control didn't work properly, the rear wiper would only wipe the middle of the back windshield. A new fuel neck was installed. Updated 03/15/07.
While driving 73 mph with cruise control on headlights will shut off. Consumer was able to restart the vehicle and corrected the problem. Dealership was notified.
The cruise control was set to 55 mph vehicle lurched forward and then rolled over. The consumer sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was towed. The dealership will be notified.
I purchased a 20054 GMC Envoy in February and we took our first long distance trip this summer. At interstate speeds on downhill slopes the cruise control bucks continuously, which I consider potentially dangerous. The local dealer told me that this was inherent in the design of the vehicle, and that many others did this also. I have never encountered this with other vehicles that I have owned.
