Gas sending unit/fuel pump lines rot out due to corrosion and spray gasoline all over the underside of vehicle. The vehicle might stall but often times it keeps running, all while spraying gasoline all over the place. This one does not even trip a check engine light while running in this condition. The only warning was the smell of gasoline- some people do not have a sense of smell, and this could have been very dangerous. This is a fire waiting to happen. This corrosion issue is known to gm, why is this not a safety recall? this let loose on my sister in-law while driving, it could have resulted in explosion or serious fire. Gm knows that these rot out prematurely due to poor materials and combined with road salt and environmental effects in snow states. This vehicle also suffers from the driver door switch for door locks and windows not always working, due to shorting out from water. . . Again a known issue with "some" units of this year, but this has not been recalled on this particular "unit" yet. Some of these have shorted out and caused fires- combined with the leaky gas sending units, this is a serious safety hazard. Do not park this vehicle in a garage- a fire waiting to happen. . . Come on- make gm take care of these problems before someone gets killed. This truck was at a dealer for the fuel leak, they told her it needs a sender unit and a bunch of other things that have failed on this poorly built truck, which include wheel bearings, abs sensors. Steering wheel sensor (? really) inop door locks, leaking fuel, water pump leaking, failing headlights- that work when they want, and a whole bunch of other repairs. This fuel and electrical issue(s) should be immediately recalled. This is affecting a lot of people who live in the northern states with snow and salt on the roadways.

Fuel pump module corrosion causing leaking fuel and fuel vapors from the top of the fuel tank. This is due to a design defect as the fuel pump module sits lower than the highest point of the fuel tank and moisture and debris accumulate on top of the fuel pump module. The top of the module is not manufactured with appropriate rust-proofing measures and the materials used leave it prone to rusting and failure, compromising the seal and allowing fuel to escape from the tank. This poses a fire hazard, especially if fuel is able to reach heated exhaust pipes, etc. I took my vehicle into a a GMC dealership and was denied repair of the vehicle or reimbursement for repair. There was a special coverage for this vehicle that has since expired, proving that gm is / was aware of the problem. Given the numerous complaints of this exact same issue, this should be escalated to recall status due to the inherent safety issue and fire risk.
The fuel inlet seal on the top of the fuel tank had separated causing a smell of fuel and allowing matter to enter the fuel tank from the top. . . Possibly causing the premature failing of the fuel pump. We understand GMC has extended the warranty on the vehicle for this issue to 150,000 miles. Our vehicle had over 155,000 miles when the problem occured but we never received notification from GMC of the extended warranty. Had we received this notification we would have taken in the vehicle for an immediate repair. The fuel pump failed and we had to purchase a new fuel tank (as a result of the faulty top seal) and fuel pump. . . Costing us almost $1,700. We have a copy of the repair bill but I am unable to scan and upload it here at this time. . . I am in the military and will be moving to korea in April, 2016.
I smelled a strong odor of gasoline while the vehicle was parked outside my residence. Performed a walk around inspection and found no visible signs of fuel leakage. Opened the hood and had no visible signs of leakage. Envoy is hard to start but once started continues to run with no issues. Gasoline fumes are evident in the cab while parked but disperse when moving down the road. Upon stopping in traffic, fumes immediately become very strong in the cab. Researching on line similar situations, it appears that there is a problem on top of the gas tank. Checked under the Envoy and noticed some minor streaking on the tank. I have stopped driving the vehicle until I can get the vehicle repaired. Assuming it is the same fuel pump erosion issue, the estimated cost to repair is between $650 and $900.
Started smelling gas, started dripping fuel. After investigating the fuel lines coming out of the fuel pump were severely corroded at the top of the gas tank. Dripping gas could have caught fire. Learned there was a TSB on this and extended warrenty due to corrosion of fuel lines. The warrenty was for 10 years or 150k. The vehicle is now 11 years old. I have lived in the same house for eight years and never received a recall or TSB notice from GMC. Over 800$ for a new fuel pump and to drop gas tank for repairs. While the vehicle is a 2004 it only has 67k on it.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xuc. The contact stated that while driving there was a fuel odor present. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a diagnosis and they had stated that the fuel pump was corroded and the odor was a result of a fuel leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 116,000. Sms.
Ignition switch failure at speed causing loss of power to fuel pump which ultimately meant loss of power to vehicle at freeway speeds. Was told by gm that there is no recall on this particular ignition switch at this time.
I could smell gas and my son a mechanic looked at it and said it is leaking on the two lines that come out the top of the fuel pump.
I started experiencing a strong smell of gasoline while driving and when the vehicles was shut down. When I first noticed the odor I could not see any visible leaks under the vehicle, after about a week I started noticing drips of fuel under the vehicle. I crawled under the vehicle to find the leak and noticed a very fine spray of gasoline coming from the top of the tank. I then dropped the fuel tank and noticed that tube from the fuel pump was corroded to the point that it was spraying gasoline while under pressure. The fuel pump is located in a low point on the top of the tank which allows for road debris/salt and water to sit and erode these tubes on the top of the fuel pump. This is a very dangerous problem as all it would take is any form of ignition to cause an uncontrollable fire. Gm should be required to repair this under a mandated recall due to the severity of this problem.
Where the top of the nesk of the fuel tank meets the fuel pump it is broken where the 2 meet. Fuel vapors, as well as actual fuel leaking on the ground r both present. Stationary , as well as, in motion.
My fuel gauge stopped working over a year ago and I do not have the funds to repair it. The engine repair light is continuously lit and I have run out of gas on a major interstate. This as a major safety issue for a woman in today's society( kidnapping, rape, runover by another vehicle) I have learned to fill up every 3 days regardless of miles driven. I was driving on the interstate 3 days ago and the car just dies, with a full gas tank, 103 degree temperature and 2 children in the car. Try crossing major interstate traffic @ 80 miles an hour with 2 children, if this is not a safety issue I don't know what is. We had to tow the car and took it to a mechanic and he said the problem with the fuel gauge is located in the same mechanism as the fuel pump and caused the fuel pump to become so corroded that it stopped working. The need exists for an immediate safety recall, before there is a death or serious injury due to a mechanical default that has affected thousands of GMC Envoys and GMC refuses to stand behind their products because it is not a safety issue. It is a safety issue. . . . . .
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy denali xl. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 40 mph. The contact also stated that the engine and the low fuel warning lights illuminated although the fuel level was at max. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the throttle body and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 128,623 and the current mileage was 138,182. Mah.
The contact owns a 2002 GMC Envoy. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph when fuel began to spray out of the fuel tank and onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the fuel pump module retainer would need to be replaced. There was a recall associated with the failure under NHTSA campaign id number 02v121000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). The contact's VIN was included in the recall however, the contact was advised that the recall was expired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I started to smell a "gas like" smell in my garage and when parked outside. I took vehicle to local repair shop and was told that I had to replace the fuel pump because it was all rusted and it was causing a fuel leak.
Fuel gage in our 2006 GMC Envoy first became erratic then failed. Took vehicle to local reputable repair facility. They informed me that the sending unit on the fuel pump is known to fail in this vehicle. Had to replace fuel pump (I was told fuel pump and sending unit were one piece). The fuel gage began to to work again once fuel pump/sending unit were replaced. The total repair was expensive (parts and labor).
The fuel pump module on the vehicle began leaking. This leak ultimately lead to gasoline pouring all over the road. One quarter of a tank of fuel spilled from the tank in approximately one quarter mile. There easily could have been a fire. I ended up walking home.
Item 1: fuel gage located on instrument panel reads empty after tank is filled to maximum, light goes on indicating tank soon to be empty, after fuel is added gage fluctuates often from empty to 3/4 filled then 1/2 tank then back to empty reading which makes me constantly refueling tank . This problem occurs while vehicle is in operation. . Item 2 speedometer fluctuates reading 80 miles in speed actually no such speed is being driven then returns to zero miles continues to move so erratically. Dealer service advisor stated problem is the fuel sensor suppressor located in the fuel tank, states tank must be dropped down during repair, recommended should replace fuel pump now since tank was accessible good opportunity in replacing also this item and I would be covered with lifetime warranty in future if need of repair. Fuel pump price $480. 00. I declined repair only fuel sensor/suppressor, check speedometer gage. Service advisor stated this item was not recalled or covered, this financially sets me back now since on a set income. This because myself a disabled vietnam veteran. Hope no more problems would be found on my vehicle these. This part alone would cost $380. 00 not including repair charges. Vehicle was in for maintenance service oil change, radiator flush, tune up, transmission service. Personally always have recommend gm vehicles/products to all associates, family, friends & acquaintances. I own a classic original 1947 pontiac 8 flathead, 4 door streamliner. Today just disappointed with these issues may have resulted to accidents leading to bodily injuries, or fatalities. Complaints have been filed with this model among other issues. & concerns. Would appreciate investigation the many complaints on file thru years 2001-2008 make & models also set as priority before any future accidents or deaths occur. With quick response & action GMC can avoid many bad reactions against their history of great quality and it's excellent commitment to customer satisfaction.

2002 GMC Envoy began to emit overwhelming odors. The interior of the car and exterior of the car smells strongly of leaking fuel. The vehicle must be parked in my driveway to prevent vapors from accumulating in my garage and seeping into my home. The leaking odors into the garage and house have caused me to have severe headaches. The captured vapors in my garage presented a severe fire hazard. I took my vehicle to a local mechanic who reported to me that the fuel pump assembly on top of the fuel tank was leaking due to corrosion on several of the tubes that transport fuel. He stated this is avery common problem on the GMC Envoys and that he has repaired many of them for the same problem.
