Check engine light stays on. Had a diagnostic done and they said there's a gas leak coming from the gas tank fuel inlet valve. Common problem for the GMC Envoy and correction involves replacing the whole fuel tank costing an average $1,400. Dangerous to drive if left untreated. Called GMC corporate and I didn't get any help. They said my Envoy was not under any recalls. They should be held responsible for this defect.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/15/2019

Bulletin no. :14423 date: November 2015 part number: 15077622 tank, fuel (18. 7 gal. ) the icv is located above the full fuel level. A fractured icv could allow fuel vapors to pass through and droplets of fuel to accumulate on the side of the fuel tank as it passes over the fracture during refueling. If the icv fractures, the vehicle's service engine soon (ses) light may illuminate, and you may notice a fuel odor and/or a few drops of fuel on the ground when refueling the vehicle. This has happen to me and now my tank needs to be replaced. This is a known issue with GMC Envoy regardless of year or how long they are in service. The company needs to be held accountable for poor quality of parts especially when it is a safety concern and hazard with fuel odor coming into the cab of the vehicle and spilling out when going up a hill. Being told to only fill my gas tank up half to three quarters full due to that part being broken is the wrong answer. In motion when I smell gas and then notice it when I fill the vehicle up and it started pouring out.

I checked my VIN for recalls, the parts involved are #14423c fuel tank inlet check valve fracture, and #07076a fuel tank modular reservoir assembly corrosion #12166 fuel filler neck. . I'm afraid every time I drive it that I could be bodily harmed at any given moment, a spark, someone flicking a cigarette,a accident, anything that would trigger a spark.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/31/2017

At every fillup we can smell gas like there is a fuel leak. I had a shop do a fog test and they confirmed a leak "somewhere from the top of the tank". The tank would need to be dropped to visually inspect at a cost of $400-$500 just for the dropping of the tank. Then there would be added costs to repair whatever is causing the leak and smell of gas. After hearing that I came home to start my searching for recalls & safety notices to find that gm had a notice issued as well as the NHTSA, but it seems they cut the year off at 2004 & 120,000 miles. According to the thread below, it appears this was extended to vehicle under 150,000 miles which we are well under, but we don't have a 2002-2004 model. . Read more...

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/29/2016

GMC is admitting to a faulty gas tank and only covers this up to 150,000 miles I bought the car after the 150,000 miles and now have gas leaking the tank was never fixed. Why does the mileage make a difference? this is a major safety issue that GMC should cover regardless of the mileage. Just because my gas tank did not leak as soon as other ones did means I should not be covered? a recall is a recall and they should be responsible for fixing the problem.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

Hi, I have a problem with the gas meter on my GMC Envoy 2006. It has 38,000 miles. The gas gauge shows that the gas tank is empty even though I fill it up. When I start the engine the gauge goes shows that the tank is full, after a few minutes of driving it goes all the way down to empty and I get the signal that the tank is empty. My concern is about if there is any recall on that because it only has 38,000 miles. I was also checking online and found a lot of complaints for the same problem. I believe gm should be responsible for this matter because it is a sign of a defected part. This problem started happening on January 30, 2016; my main concern is getting stuck in traffic and possibly get in an accident due to the gas gauge is misreading. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/31/2015

Received a letter in November of 2015 informing me that my car (included my specific VIN number, not just make, model and year) is part of an extended 15 year/150,000 mile gm special coverage program, 14423. During the last two years, my service engine light went on and off regularly, and I had almost $5,000 of emissions work done to my car which at 12 plus years only has 73,000 plus miles on it. Back in 2012,I was unable to pass inspection on my car because my service engine light was on (02/2012) and brought my car to my mechanic. Something under my car melted (said in service receipt) and cost me $343. 00 to repair. A week later, the service engine light was on again and I took my car to kerbecks GMC in atlantic city, NJ. Service manager said my car was no longer covered, but I called gm and they said otherwise. Brought car back to dealer and after long argument, it was supposedly repaired. Receipt doesn't state cause or work done. Now I brought car back to kerbeck as the smell of gas in my car is pungent. They said my car had a crack in my fuel tank, covered under 14423 and said gm would not allow me to drive it as a fire could occur. Erbeck gave me a loaner for two weeks on 12/31/20015. Part is on backorder. Gm took my car away from me on 1/16/2016 and said they wouldn't provide me with a loaner anymore. I have been without a car since the 14th of January, live alone, and have no means of getting around. I can't afford a rental. Opened case with gm, case # 8-1759699353 with a woman named carmen who said it would take over a month at best to get the backordered part in. I need a loaner and a way to get around. The service manager bob informed me that my car was too dangerous to drive and so did gm. Why did they take my loaner away leaving me stranded alone at 62 years old. Please help me.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

I had been driving and pulled into a fast food restaurant and when I got out of my vehicle I noticed the smell of gasoline being close to a gas station I thought nothing of it when getting back in my vehicle after retrieving my food I now smelled the gasoline inside my vehicle still thought nothing that maybe the fumes were just lingering until the next day when the smell was stronger so strong that my child with asthma immediately had to get out of the vehicle so being cautious as anyone I had my husband take a look he smelled the gasoline but couldn't find a leak so he took it to our local mechanic who then diagnosed the problem and removed the tank and replaced it with a used tank and whatever part was needed to fix the issue so since then I have not smelled anymore gasoline but my check engine light refuses to go off not to mention I receive a letter in the mail stating that there was some sort of recall on my exact year and make of vehicle and that I could send in a claim to get back the $500 I put into fixing the vehicle thinking it was now safe for my family so I paid to fix the problem only my new tank is used so I'm guessing I'll be having this issue again at some point which is very scary considering I drive my children in this vehicle plus I'm out the $500 still have the same issue which I cannot afford to fix again should the problem arise and I didn't keep the receipt from my mechanic thinking problem solved I put it aside it threw it away so I'm just curious is there anything I can do because knowing the tanks have issues and I've just paid $500 for another recalled tank pretty much so I'm at a point where I have no option but to take a loss on the money I paid to fix the vehicle before I knew about the recall not to mention I've had to replace the tie rods twice and it's popping again when I make turns I love this vehicle but now I'm super nervous of it.

The failure mileage was 108,000.
