Fuel tank. At least three years ago, I received a recall form gm because of the fuel filler tube/fuel tank was compromised and I was being recalled for a fun tank replacement. Went to my GMC dealer (nalley of brunswick GA) who told me that fuel tanks were on national backdoor even though they had the filler tube parts, would notify me when the tanks available. I faithfully revistedthem every 6 months to be told same story, still no fuel tanks. I believe now they are hoping I just go away. In the mean time I still cannot fill up the tank without having gas fumes emanating from under the car.
I bought this car last December . Went to gas station , got home smelt fuel oder. Theres no visable leaks , just fuel smell from top of tank. This is not a common problem , lot complaints online . I have kids , and this unsafe. There are no recalls for this , gm should recall and fix .
The gas gauge has completely stopped working. It consistently shows as empty even when tank is full.

The fuel gauge stated that I had 300 miles till empty. While going down the road, it went all the way down to empty. I stopped and turned it off and waited a few minutes and turned it back on. It took about 5 minutes but the mileage and gas hand went back up to where it was supposed to be. This morning I filled the tank up and now the computer is reading low fuel and the gas hand is below the red line. Also the check engine light is on.
Filler neck on gas tank has fractured causing gas vapors and possibly gas to escape the tank. I have been driving the vehicle with this condition present but have just received a notice from GMC indicating that they are aware of the problem but my vehicle is outside of the window they will cover for repairs.
Tl-the contacts owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that although the fuel gauge read a quarter of tank of fuel, the vehicle ran out of gas and stalled. The dealer was contacted who stated that the fuel tank lever sensor might need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle had surpassed the statue of limitation for a manufacturer customer satisfaction campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 138,775 and the current mileage was 138,963. Bt.
Fuel sensor/guage reads empty even though fuel tank is full. Needle continues to fluctuates while driving providing an inaccurate read of duel state.
GMC has refused to repair/replace a faulty fuel tank. Instead GMC has asked that I pay for the repair $1567. 00. Apparently, several GMC Envoy owners have complained about cracks in the fuel tank. GMC has determined unless the crack occurred within 36,000 miles of purchasing the car, it is the owners responsibility to fix the vehicle. My vehicle has been ruled unsafe to drive by a GMC technician. My children are riding in a vehicle that was faulty from the date of purchase. I am so disappointed in GMC.
Filled up gas tank to full, when pulling out of gas station, fuel light came on and gas gauge showed it was empty. After driving for a short while gauge started to go to full. This happens everytime I fill up for gas.
Check engine light came on, took my truck to the mechanic to have it checked and testing showd codes of fuel evap leak. I had to get this fixed as I was due to get my registration renewed. Got the vehicle back went for emmisions test and the"check engine light" popped up again just as emmission test was being done!!!. I could not believe it! so not only did I incur cost of mechanic but the vehicle failed the emissions test. The tech at the emissions center said the codes showed "fuel evap leak" detected. , while driving home from the emmisions test I smelled a strong gas odor, pulled into my garage and looked under the vehicle and it was not leaking however my whole garage stunck of gas. My garage is attached to my house, let the dog out and the dog even sneazed!. . . . Being a weekend and my only way of transporation I drove the car as little as possible. Monday took the car back to the shop and the tech noticed the strong odor , later the technician called me to tell me that the lines to fuel tank and the fuel tank needed to be replaced as they were leaking but only when the vehicle was mobile!!!!!. He also told me that the vehicle was a fire hazzard and I could not drive the vehicle. Now what! I had to get this fixed as I need the vehicle to get to work. The additional cost was $960 not to mention the extention I had to pay the dmv to extend my renewl registration. Had the vehicle back a week now, no more gas smell but lord and behold the "check engine light" just popped up again! this vehicle only has 103k and very well taken care of. . The mechanic says the code is still reading "fuel evap leak" . Somebody please help. !!!!!!! it seems as tho I am not the only Envoy owner with this problem!!!!!! I loved this vehicle but totally discusted and disapointed in GMC.
Special coverage adjustment fuel tank inlet check valve fracture #07099a. Issued August 24, 2007. My 2004 GMC Envoy is now experiencing this problem. I was never notified of this as gm claims they did not know I was the owner of this car. I bought it used in 2005. I was told by a mechanic when I took it in to check out the problem that I should not fill the gas tank full as it could cause gas leakage. I am also facing an expensive bill to get this fixed. A recall was never issued and it appears this is a life safety issue. I would appreciate your attention in this matter.
The gas tank has a lose connector that leaks and allows fumes to escape.
Went to replace head light bulb to find out that I had to replace the wiring do to it was melted. The filler neck on the fuel tank is cracked, causing an evap leak in witch I found out through a garage and 5 diff. Salvage yards. And last, 6 diff. Times will driving I lost power will driving. I had to turn the ignition off, wait about 3 sec. Before it would start and go. The first time was in the middle of an intersection and the rest happened while on a regular road. I explained to my wife what to do if this happens to her and it did once, the others while I was driving.
The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that an odor of gasoline fuel was present inside and outside of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered a fuel leak from the top driver's side of the fuel tank. The contact indicated that the fuel leak only occurred when the engine was powered on. The fuel tank neck where the fuel goes into the vehicle then down to the gas tank is cracked which is causing a gas leak & vapors.
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xl. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, she noticed that the fuel gauge reading was fluctuating while the fuel tank was full. The engine then suddenly stalled due to the faulty fuel gauge. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.
2004 GMC Envoy, well maintained at 158,000 miles began to emit an odor of gasoline. At first it was only slightly noticeable, but overtime it's become very noticeable. Interior and exterior of the car smells like gasoline. No gasoline is leaked, only fumes are emitted. Took it to a local repair shop and they state that there is a crack on the inlet of the fuel tank. Repair shop stated my model is not covered by the recall issued for Envoy xl of the same year, but stated it is exactly the same issue and that I should file a complaint here. Estimate cost of repair $1000+.
I filled up at the local exxon gas station and when I started the car the fuel guage reads empty with the yellow light illuminated. Tried starting the vehicle several times,to no avail. Carried car to a mechanic and diagnosed the problem as the sending unit in the fuel tank. Repair cost roughly $800 - $1000 dollars.
I filled my tank at a gas station and when leaving the "check engine" light came on and the fuel gauge dropped down to "e" and low fuel light came on. After 10-15 seconds the fuel gauge went all the way to "full". A few minutes later it did the same thing again, and has continued.
I started smelling gas several weeks ago. Now I can see some gas on my driveway near where the fuel tank is located. I'm afraid of a fire.

My fuel gauge keeps fluctuating. Even when I have a full tank of gas, the gauge fluctuates, and goes to empty and the low fuel light comes on. This happens when I am parked, stopped at a light, and going down the road. It doesn't matter what speed I'm going, the gauge goes to empty and the light comes on. It happens when I have a full tank, half tank, quarter tank. Please help!.
We started noticing after a fill up at the gas station the gas guage still showed empty. The guage took over an hour of driving to move up to full. In the middle of the week last week the vehicle ran out of gas and stalled. We added half a tank, but the guage still showed empty the next few times it was driven somewhere. Last weekend I filled up again and the guage showed empty still with warning indicator on. Again it took over an hour of driving for the guage to register the tank even 3/4 full.
While driving the vehicle the air will let out of the shocks, also happens when vehicle is parked. Ssometimes air will not even elevate shocks when vehicle is turned on. Also randomly while vehicle is started whwther the fuel tank is full or empty or inbetween it will go from accurate level to empty mark on fuel gauge.
Filled fuel tank, gauge read full, as I was driving the gauge went to empty within 2 minutes. The gauge will sometimes read half, but as soon as I start driving it goes to empty.
Fuel gauge has stopped working properly, reads different levels while driving, says there's no fuel and we just put fuel in the tank.
