At irregular times when driving at slow speeds (~10 mph), on dry clean pavement, and under light to moderate braking, the anti-lock braking system engages and extends the stopping distance of the vehicle. I understand that a recall was issued for other vehicles in other states, but obviously the problem extends to more year models and over a wider area. In addition, gm has issued a technical service bulletin #02-05-25-006a covering more vehicles than were in the initial recall for this failure. It seems that if a TSB was released, they are aware that the problem is on much wider scale than the recall indicates.

The contact owns a 2002 GMC Safari. The contact stated that when trying to stop the abs activated, and vehicle lost the braking capability on the right front wheel. There was more braking on the left side of the vehicle, and this caused the steering wheel to pull to the left. The consumer asked the service dealer about this problem, and they stated the right hub needed to be replaced, and that the consumer would have to pay for the repairs. The dealership stated that the consumer could take out the fuse to the abs and this would disable the abs brakes. The consumer was not aware of a recall for this specific type of vehicle regarding the abs. The consumer stated that there was a technical service bulletin (TSB) regarding this problem.
The vehicle's abs malfunctioned. The abs would release when the pedal was applied in a normal manner if the consumer hit a bump. The consumer stated he bumped the vehicle in front of him, but did not state if there was any damage.

The broken shaft on the hyd. Pump controls both the brakes ,which I had next to none ,and also the power steering . I was able to steer to the side of the road very gingerly, only because at that time I was coasting at about 10mph ,almost in front of our driveway. At this time I was towing our travel trailer, returning from vacation, from the west coast, via interstates and many mountainous roads. God help if this would had happen at the time . After unhitching the 24ft. Trailer, our van was flatbedded to our dealer who did a fine repair job on the hyd. Pump problem. As for the wiper control module that is another story. The problem occured in rapid city n. D. While traveling 65mph along a highway, during a rain storm. They just quit operating without warning. We sat out the storm, then proceed back to our camp ground. We located a GMC dealer in rapid city s. D. Who repaired the problem. The service manger had told me that this is a problem on many vehicles and keeps many on the shelf.
