1 Brake Sensor problem of the 2000 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Pulling into a parking slot, without warning brakes failed and hit parking meter. Took it to mechanic who could not replicate the problem and couldn't find anything wrong. Vehicle drove fine for awhile, and then again, without warning brakes failed. . . Again in a parking lot and another vehicle was hit. Took to a different mechanic and the wheel sensors were found to be the problem. After experiencing this problem, I did further research and see numerous others have had this same problem. It is a very dangerous safety issue for which GMC has not acknowledged and issued a recall. Because of the incidence of brake failure without warning, it has made me psychologically afraid to drive or even be a passenger in this car. It is supposedly "fixed" right now, but I do not feel comfortable that it won't happen again. I have spoken to others who have told me the problem re-occurred for them after having their vehicle fixed. So it is a constant fear factor. GMC should do the right thing and include this model/year in the recall.

2 Brake Sensor problem of the 2003 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Our 2003 GMC Safari has had the brakes spontaneously fail while we were driving it at least six times (every couple of months or so) for the past year. Each time, the pedal just dropped to the floor, the "brake" light came on, and we have had to practically stand on the brake pedal to get it to finally roll to a stop. Fortunately it has been at slow speeds each time and we have not caused any accidents yet. We have been to two different dealerships repeatedly and spent over $1000. 00 for various brake system components that are not fixing the problem. We think it is either a booster or sensor issue, but the dealerships will not listen to us and GMC's customer service line has not been helpful either. We are terrified of driving this vehicle but can't afford a new one at this time.

3 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 04/19/2007

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Safari. While driving 7 mph and when t depressing the brakes the abs activated, and there was a buzzing noise. He was unable to stop the vehicle for approximately 20 feet. The abs sensor was replaced. However, six months later the problem reccured. The failure mileage was 88,000 miles, and the current mileage was 115,000.

4 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 06/05/2006

: the contact stated the vehicle's anti lock braking system sensors were faulty and activated on dry pavement at a speed of lower than 8 mph. There were no warning signal to indicate a failure. The failure occurred under normal braking. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who advised filing a complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration. The manufacturer has not been notified yet by the contact.

5 Brake Sensor problem of the 2003 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 02/09/2006

Corrosion has built up on the abs sensors causing them to activate at low speeds. When this happens the brakes don't lock up and at low speeds (less than 4 mph) that means the vehicle takes an extra few feet to stop. On one occasion I almost hit a person and two other times a parked car in a parking lot because the car didn't stop. The problem is intermittent so the dealer could not duplicate the problem and therefore can't fix it. There is a gm recall (#05068) for other like models of gm cars but not mine. So my problem is the dealer can't fix it without a recall and gm won't issue a recall because there hasn't been enough complaints.

6 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 01/09/2006

When backing out of garage brakes failed and the pedal went all the way to the floor. Dealer told me there was no brake problems, but could be abs sensors rusted or had dirt build up. The dealer cleaned abs sensors and sprayed a rust inhibitor on sensors and hubs , and said they hoped this would solve the problem. If problem persists to come back.

7 Brake Sensor problem of the 1999 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 11/02/2004

About a year ago the problem began. When braking at low speeds about 5-10 mph abs kicks in and a grinding sound occurs. This causes extended stopping distances. All wheel drive, all wheel antilock to the owner's knowledge. No warning lights illuminated and the dealer said that the abs sensor looked corroded. The vehicle was put on the diagnostic machine but it showed no codes. When the abs fuse is pulled the car works fine but has no abs. The owner hasn't disconnected the abs fuse. The vehicle has not been repaired yet and the problem has remained about the same. The problem occurs about 90 percent of the time during low speed brake applications.
