At slow speeds (below 10 mph) the anti lock brakes mess up and truck can not be stopped. Would happen once in a while, now it happens every time I try to stop. Almost ran into several people. I can not believe this problem has not been a recall considering that all the people I have talked to that have had the same problem and that I am sure there has had to been several accidents involving this. A dealer told me to pull the anti-lock fuse until I get it fixed which I have. Truck now stops but I no longer have anti-lock brakes.
My truck is a 2002 GMC Sierra, and is having the same problems as the antilock braking system recall. I was told that since I don't live in the eastern states that I don't fall into the recall. It is having purging problems on the antilock, and is having problems with stopping at different speeds, the brakes don't seem to want to stop it.
Have 2002 GMC Sierra and the anti lock brakes are freezing or working at a slow speed or a stop. Have called garages and they don't have the recall numbers. So I have to wait until released. How long must I wait!!!.

The anti lock brakes on a 2002 GMC Sierra extended cab pickup turn on (when they normally should not - dry stopping conditions) at low speed stops <10 mph. When they came on they would make stopping the vehicle very difficult. The last time the truck could not be stopped at a stop sign and went into a busy intersection, luckily with out an accident. To prevent the problem over the last six months I have had the fuse for the anti lock brakes removed to disable the anti lock feature completley.
When applying the brakes from low speed brake pedal pulsated, resulting in extended stopping distance . Dealer stated the rotors were rusted and flaking.
Low speed application of brakes on mixed traction surface ( bare road on left side ice and snow on right side). Lead to unwanted activation of anti-locks. Resulting in loss of control of truck and subsequent crash with personal injury and substantial property damage. Police were notified but no report because it was in a subdivision.
Shortly after the purchase of the truck while traveling over a bump the abs kicked in and there was a slow pulsation of brakes. Vehicle went through a stop sign. This occurred on dry pavement. While traveling over ã‚â¾ inch bump or larger. The owner experienced the same thing as listed above. Vehicle was seen by the service dealer, and they found no codes on the computer, they were unable to duplicate the problem. The owner was advised that brakes were operating properly. Owner found that pressing the brake pedal very fast and hard or pressing and then releasing it was the only way to gain affective braking. The owner unplugged the abs fuse, and was able to have the brakes operate normally.
Dealer claims they cannot duplicate problem. Brake pedal will travel excessively when applied suddenly; so far, occurrence has been at slower speeds and intermittently.
