1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2012

This is an old incident; however, until just recently, I did not realize there was a website such as yours. Also, I am reporting a specific incident, but also want to include other general information. The incident which occurred was related to my brake fluid lines rusting completely through while I was driving down the road with my two small grandchildren. When a vehicle stopped in front of me, I pushed on my brakes only to find I could not stop. Fortunately, there was a field on the right side of the road and I drove into it, rather than hitting the vehicle. When my husband checked the brakes, the lines literally fell apart. We still have this truck, but the entire underside of it (frame, spring hangers, front drive shaft, etc) are all rusted. Another issue that happened earlier this summer - the spare tire carrier had become so rusted, my spare tire actually came lose while driving down the road. Fortunately it was held up by a chain. Upon learning that this is a problem with most all gm trucks, I felt obligated to base my complaint in the hopes that something can be done. Toyota faced similar problems, but fortunately stood behind their products and made it right with their customers and I feel gm should be required to do likewise. We have tried to trade this truck in for another vehicle, but are being offered way below kelly blue book price because of the rust issue.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2012

Applied brakes at 35mph and pedal went to floor, causing vehicle to rear end another vehicle stopped at traffic light. Drivers side rear break line had ruptured due to rust. No warning light or backup system activated. Further inspection shows all break lines are severely rusted and require replacement. On line search indicates this is a common safety problem with this vehicle. It is miraculous that there are not deaths associated with this manufacturers defect.

3 Service Brakes problem

The brakes locked up when pulling into parking lot of store.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2011

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2009

My antilocking brakes have been activating during slow turning stops and I am not able to stop. I ran over a curve pulling into a packing lot. I almost hit another car pulling into the gas station. I called the gm dealer who said it was not covered under warranty and this has not been under a recall. So I disconnected the antilocking brakes and now the problem is gone. And good thing I did because that same day I was pulling into traffic and did not see an oncoming car because it did not have its light on (dusk) and I had to stop fast while turning. If I did not disconnect the antilock I would have coasted it to the on coming car. Gm needs to correct this problem.

2002 GMC Sierra. Just as the vehicle is about to stop the anti-lock brakes seem to release and the vehicle travels around 10 to 15 feet without being able to stop. Very disconcerning.
